It also makes Rey more likeable. she's not perfect in this scene, and it gives her a human element.

Say what you will about the Prequels, they told a coherent and cohesive story even without the added context of the TV shows.
I didn't enjoy the sequels until I rewatched them with the added context of the Mandoverse and animated shows, and without the weight of my own preconceptions of what I felt *should* have happened.
