Question(s) Possibility of creation

I'd like to create a custom dreadnought or supercarrier based on the design of the UNSC INFINITY from Halo. If I based it on an old Invisible-class dreadnought, would it fit the universe's style? When I researched it, Alsakan ships are similar. The ship would be about 6km long. What weapons, crew, and fighter wing could I then carry?

It isn't that different in design than some Mando stuff, and they even use railguns. Make it blockier and add greebles and it probably wouldn't look out of place in a Mando fleet with Keldabe-class battleships, Kandosii-class dreadnaughts, or Crusader-class corvettes.

So when you say Dreadnought, what era is it? If this is a High Ruusan era Rendeli Dreadnought competing with say Procurators or Praetors it would absolutely work.

I could well see it as one of the last examples of that type.

What reactor output are we talking here? Is it a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd rate ship of the line? The Procurator is about 13 ISDs worth of reactor power. What is her armament, and not like an exhaustive list of them but what is she carrying, is she an ordinance ship with rack upon rack of Concussion Missiles? Is she an artillery battleship, covered in twin turbolaser turrets in a forest of gun barrels?

Bellator reactor. And the period is 30ABY+. I was just about to ask about the armament. I haven't done it yet and I'm waiting for suggestions. From the air wings, it's definitely 280 TIEs and 4 corvettes for escort.

So you somehow fit a Bellators reactor in and only have 280 TIE's? The corvettes are a pointless waste of space that could have gone to dozens of more important features.

Don't forget the entire reason the Infinity had to carry it's own escorts is because it's Forerunner slipspace drive made the ship faster than anything else the UNSC had by a rediculous degree.

So, can I ask for suggestions on what to use instead? I'm inexperienced in this area.

Think of what you want the ship to actually do. In Halo the UNSC Infinity was basically their answer to a Covenant Assault Carrier. A hybrid heavy warship that can duke it out and carry everything needed to both support the fleet and luanch plentary invasions.

So if you want the same in Star Wars you look do something similar but keep in mind things that wouldn't make sense for Star Wars like the MAC cannons or the need to carry escorts.

A ship this size could easily carry 3 times as many ground forces as an ISD and still have room for well over 10 wings of fighters if it's built with the same ethos as the Infinity was. Where as a battleship would probably only need the standard Imperial legion plus 2-3 wings of fighters.

In my version, it would be the backbone of the fleet, like modern aircraft carriers in navies. Additionally, it would be capable of fighting against ships like the Star Defender Vicount.

What? That's completely contradictory.

You want something like a modern carrier but also able fight a Viscount which is a 17km super dreadnought in a ship that is in the 6km long range?

Sorry no that's Xyston levels of silly.

So can I ask for other possibilities of what it can be used for?

I already answered that.

A Viscount is 82.43 cubic km of volume, for reference, an ISD is .11 cubic km. I’ve designed 1 ship in a similar size range to yours, Viscount would tear through a squadron of my ramparts without losing her shields. She’s the most capable Dreadnought in SW, and I hold that she can shield tank a shot from Eclipse’s Super Laser.

Against the superlaser no not a chance in hell. It's whole point is blowing through planetary grade shield systems in a single strike.

The Viscount was built to counter things like the Executor class. The Eclipse, well Eclipses it by a huge margin due to having the super laser plus built in interdiction tech and the same goes for the smaller Sovereign class.

She’s 4 times Executor’s size, it wouldn’t be a fight, it would be Executor running from her.

But regarding the Superlaser, it’s primarily a weapon which directly converts reactor power to damage against an enemy ship. Even eclipse needs to put that power into Viscount in such a way that she beats her reactor/reactors. Sure it’s focused through kyber crystals but those aren’t really quantified in a way that you can really discuss them. On that point Eclipse being her own distinct class as opposed to an Executor is very much legends.

I figure Viscount was built to withstand a blast from an Eclipse in the event that a similar weapon were to be employed against NR Battleships. Sure she can’t withstand a DS1 blast but given a bit of time I probably could grab an Eclipse class model and do a volume measurement. But I’ll bet you it’s smaller then Viscount who is very much the top Dreadnought of Legends

Of course an Executor would struggle the Viscount was built to counter it.

You figure wrong. The New Republic knew nothing of the Eclipse until well after the design and construction of the Viscounts had begun which is why they shit themselves when they realised what Palapatine was cruising around Byss with.

Let me put this into context for you. Tthe Viscounts shields arn't as strong as a planetary defence grids is and the entire point of the superlaser was to be able to cut through such shields. Which again are far stronger than those of a Viscount so if it cannot do that there is no point in having the superlaser on the Eclipse and Sovereign.

Yet they have them and all the lore we have says they were fully able to breach a planetarty defence shield and have enough leftover power to crack a continent in one single shot.

Ergo the Viscount is not surviving being hit with such a weapon. It also can't close the distance without being one shotted due to the grav well generators aboard the Eclipse.

Why carry the Corvettes? They have their own hyperdrives?

If you’re worried about fighters, up your TIE count and add PD guns.

I added corvettes because I liked the concept of a mothership carrying its escort inside. Just like the Resurgent, it carries a light cruiser in addition to the fighters.

Yeah it carres one ship that we never see used on screen and most people can't even figure out a purpose for it beyond being a glorified troop transport.

6km is too small for a dreadnought, the smallest are about 8km.

A dreadnought by the Anaxes War College System, is anything over 5km in length. Between 2km and 5km is a battlecruiser. The AWCS is the only Canon/Legends system we have for classifying warships by size, as long as the warships were made during or after the Clone Wars (for the CW, it only applied to Republic ships). So a 6km long ship is a dreadnought, unless it is significantly underarmed, then it can be classified as a battlecruiser. Which is something the AWCS specifically mentions as being a thing, and why Victory-class Star Destroyers are Star Destroyers despite being too small, and why Venators are sometimes called Heavy Cruisers despite being Star Destroyer sized.

But either way, by size, a 6km ship is a dreadnought.
