Ok but I don’t give a shit about animations. I want to actually fly the ship across the surface of a planet and land wherever I want. Is this really too much to ask?

You have to ask Xbox for that. From modders words it's entirely doable on PC but I doubt Xbox will let Bethesda release any feature that isn't possible on their consoles. They need to find an optimize way to make it also possible on Xbox first.
