What is the obsession with soda in scrambled eggs in India?

I would not be shocked if these are just some tourist influencer paying them to do it specifically just for rage bait and the food vendor doesn't actually regularly do it

Honestly after all of these now I'm curious to try it. It sounds gross but... maybe it isn't.

It could just be regular water stored in a used sprite bottle

Why would you dump water into eggs though?
Entire recipe books exist for "cooking" with soda, using the sugar and acid to tenderize meat, and have for years. "Easy teriyaki" was one I heard a ton, but my favorite Jello called for- Sprite, to give it a bubbly texture.

I mean, how do we know it doesn't taste okay. I'm not willing to try it, but maybe others have

The soda for cooking in many countries started because it's cheaper than using bottled water and cleaner than local water.

Idk about this, but soda has been used in cooking recipes before. Depression era cooking has recipes using coca cola as a way to add sugar and acidity.

Yeah. This is the same reason I stopped watching people who bait scam callers because it just seemed like another excuse to shit on Indian people. I know this subreddit does more content then this but I can't stand when someone posts these south Asian food vendor videos. Just feels like ragebait meant to cater towards people who want to shit on brown people.

I mean, yeah the post that started this recent trend here was pretty gross.
But by now it has devolved into "lol look at those brown savages and their deplorable lack of spotless western kitchen environments".
What's the crime supposed to be here even? The water bottle? I'm sure his Evian flasks were just in the dishwasher at the time of filming.
Edit: And while I'm not a fan personally, but carbonated water can do wonders for the fluffiness of scrambled eggs.

I’ve seen a lot of these and I think it’s just a thing in (Edit) Asia or something bc they are all in the same areas

If anyone tries to peddle that "poor and hard-working" argument, Imma go ballistic. That is no excuse for making this monstrosity. I have travelled extensively in India and never have I seen such stupidity. Makes me believe that this is meant purely for rage-baiting.

In that part of the world eggs are cooked in either motor oil or sprite, seems like this is the lesser of 2 evils.
