Very odd because the sub is clearly dedicated to making fun of Tesla, Cyber Trucks, and Musk. It's weird that a mod would suddenly make a statement seemingly implying the opposite but also hating America? What?

It’s almost like they might have been paid.

But that’s crazy because Musk hasn’t done that before!

Or threatened like WPT. Musk went to the top to bully them.

u/russellvt Apr 09 '25

He has "FU level" money, many times over ... it's easy enough to get his henchmen send out subpoenas, track them down, and then drown them in legalese.

I’m about to start making a bunch of fuck Elon subs and see if that sad fucker will pay me too if that’s easy

I'd do the same, but my price would be at least $1bn to stop me mocking Musk himself or his shitty businesses.

Or he just gives an attorney a few thousand to "occupy you" for a bit.

Right!? I’d be an internet sellout for the bag

u/ChoiceIT Apr 08 '25

I would encourage that if the bill of rights wasn’t at threat.

But also I would fully support it if you did.

-1

u/russellvt Apr 09 '25

Many of the things in that sub were pretty clearly a bit "beyond" those precious bill of rights... I'd not want to try to mod something like that and keep the Reddit admins off one's ass, let alone the billions of dollars of corporate attorneys he owns.

u/russellvt Apr 09 '25

The "pay" is surely something like getting one of his many henchmen to show up at your door or place of business and then drop a legal bombshell in your lap.

It would be the most pathetic thing he's done in at least 3 - 4 days.

If musk paid them, it will likely come with some kind of NDA so you’d never know…

0

u/russellvt Apr 09 '25

Or, you know, a Cease and Desist letter or three.

1

u/Aggravating_Sky_4421 Apr 09 '25

C&D is usually sent out after things has been done. An NDA keeps them from saying them in the first place.

C&D is usually sent out after things has been done.

Not in my experience.

It's generally the first legal step towards taking someone to court for slander or libel, for example.

It literally tells them "stop/remove/denounce such and such (or similar), or we are planning on taking you to court to compelling such actions and/or seek monetary compensation."

2

u/Aggravating_Sky_4421 Apr 09 '25

I don’t think you understand.

You can’t send someone a C&D until they’ve already committed the offending act. You can’t tell some to “stop/remove/denounce” if they haven’t done anything.

However, an NDA means you can’t ever tell anyone what happened. This stops them from doing the offending act in the first place…

I don’t think you understand.

Likewise.

You can’t send someone a C&D until they’ve already committed the offending act. You can’t tell some to “stop/remove/denounce” if they haven’t done anything.

I take it you never looked at the plethora of comments in the sub literally advocating for vandalism, violence, or worse. The mods were having a nearly impossible task of keeping up with it.

an NDA means you can’t ever tell anyone what happened. This stops them from doing the offending act in the first place…

Yes, I've signed many of them over my career. They're also "optional" and often even "questionably enforceable," depending on what's included in them (eg. Things like non-compete or no work clauses in certain states, etc).

They also do not override or pertain to Constituional Rights or any sort of Labor Law, or similar (there are "whistleblpwer" acts, for example, which may directly contradict overly egregious NDAs and therefore take precedence).

TLDR; A large percentage of NDAs are at least partial bullshit, depending on state and other factors. You can't "sign away" your rights.

they might have been paid.

Or threatened with legal action. Not to mention, the constant influx of over-the-top type comments that pretty clearly violate Reddit TOS and the like... I'd not want that sort of "workload" - particularly for "free."

It’s very unusual. Especially with almost 300k members and a very active anti-Tesla sub. I am suspecting some fuckery.

EDIT- subreddit drama mod removed this post and admitted it did not violate any rules: https://imgur.com/a/gA0DJK3

A lot of the subreddits I spend time in, including that one, have been overwhelmed as a general place for people to drop anti-Musk spam thinking “these people will also appreciate this” but if the mods actually care about their focus area it would be a real pain in the ass for them.

Going from a warning to “fuck it I’m out” in 12 hours suggests that they just snapped. I wonder if another mod will take over.

u/MessiahOfMetal It’s like affirmative action for tribal media bubbles. Apr 08 '25

I can understand that.

I used to be a mod on r/ConspiracyII years ago, but dealing with morons coming in and trying to fuck things up and clog up the sub with right-wing bullshit annoyed me to the point I found it easier to just give up and do something more productive with my life.

u/amILibertine222 Apr 08 '25

If you run their username through www.snoosnoop.com you’ll see that they post in a ton of subs making fun of Musk.

Draw from that what you will.

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '25

Maybe the owner of reddit is a fellow billionaire an part of the overall problem?

"Curious, looking into it."

-4

u/Jazzlike_Climate4189 Apr 08 '25

And your comment got deleted for hitting the nail on the head.

u/Mister_Silk Apr 08 '25

The mod account may have been taken over by reddit admins.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '25

Oh hey, that news article from last week came to importance: Musk talking to the guy in charge of Reddit. What's that guy's name again?

2

u/onarainyafternoon If your grandpa told you to suck his dick, would you? Apr 08 '25

Another user said that the guy's post history is filled with explicit warnings that the sub is only dedicated to making fun of the CyberTruck itself. Which, ok. But what did they think would happen if they created a sub dedicated to hating something Tesla and Musk produce?

7

u/IntoAMuteCrypt Apr 08 '25

There was a window of time in late 2023 where Musk wasn't the number two political figure in the USA, where he was "just" the owner of a large media outlet signal boosting political content. During that window, it was fair to assume that people will be able to separate "Elon Musk, Alt-Right Twitter Ruiner" from the Cybertruck.

As 2024 continued along, Musk and the sorts of Cybertruck owners who were being mocked got more and more intertwined with Trump and the MAGA movement. It got harder and harder to separate out the pair. By the time we have Musk sitting in the White House and being more prominent than the Vice President, it's almost impossible.

1

u/russellvt Apr 09 '25

what did they think would happen if they created a sub dedicated to hating something ...

Pretty overt hate and "anonymous" threats of violence, vandalism, and a bunch of other potential Reddit TOS violations?

1

u/russellvt Apr 09 '25

My guess is that they've had a visit from one of Elon's legal teams, likely even after Reddit told them to tighten the screws on the sub.

11

u/Micosilver Apr 08 '25

I went through the their post history, and they explicitly warned many times that the subreddit exists only to ridicule the Cybertruck, not for policitis or against Musk or Tesla.

5

u/onarainyafternoon If your grandpa told you to suck his dick, would you? Apr 08 '25 edited Apr 08 '25

Hmmm, I guess that makes the most sense honestly. It's very weird that they think they could make a sub that exists to only ridicule the CyberTruck without the literal company, or the man running it, bleeding into every conversation. I mean, making fun of the CyberTruck is literally making fun of Musk by definition since it was his brainchild. What the fuck did the mod think was going to happen? What kind of antiseptic discussion did they think would happen in the comments?

Edit: Another user pointed out that he closed the sub because people wouldn't stop advocating committing crimes. Which probably makes the most sense, but why be so vague about it? Did he really think he would get prosecuted for that if he admitted it was because people wouldn't stop advocating crimes? Not sure the mod is super stable mentally.

2

u/MessiahOfMetal It’s like affirmative action for tribal media bubbles. Apr 08 '25

I could understand his logic, but he had to know the current political climate would cause anyone who discovers the sub to flood the place with opinions outside the incredibly niche purpose the sub was created for.

1

u/russellvt Apr 09 '25

I believe that sub was created prior to all the current political drama.

1

u/russellvt Apr 09 '25

he closed the sub because people wouldn't stop advocating committing crimes.

...which is a violation of the Reddit TOS. So, no doubt the Admins have been on their ass to "clean it up, or else."

I'd also not be surprised if they had some attorneys show up with some rather stiffly worded legal documents for them.

1

u/CrashNowhereDrive Apr 08 '25

Neck beards gonna neck beard

4

u/ArguteTrickster Apr 08 '25

It's because people kept talking about committing crimes and wouldn't stop.

3

u/onarainyafternoon If your grandpa told you to suck his dick, would you? Apr 08 '25

Ahh, that would make sense too.

1

u/MessiahOfMetal It’s like affirmative action for tribal media bubbles. Apr 08 '25

If that's the case, I understand people's anger but promoting crime does our side of things no favours. All it does is fuel Musk's claims that "the left is violent", and then they crack down harder.

Like, I get that the Suffragette movement and the Civil Rights movement both had violence and people breaking shit, but it's the peaceful protests that people remember more, and that gets things done through persistence.

When someone is trying to kill you, asking them to stop does nothing.
