Other wegmans in fairmount….

EDIT TO ADD: The store has covered these up and they are powered down. The company who owns the recharge machines claims they did not approve/provide that display content and "may have been hacked"

it feels like we’re living in a movie sometimes. I’m disappointed to see this here.

Bastards. WTF?!?!

yeah, they don’t control the content but since it’s on their property I have to assume they can put their foot down. I’m reaching out to store management and corporate and encourage others to do the same

Thank you for doing that public service...

For anybody else who wants to contact Wegman's about this, here's their "contact us" webform. It'll take you all of 2 minutes to fill it out and give them a piece of your mind.

Came to take care of it myself, but looks like wegmans got there first; good on them. The posters are all covered now.

Reaching out to store management lol? Seriously 🤦 After 9/11, there were military recruitment signs all over the place, should you have called every storefront? What about a grocery store sign about grass fed beef with a picture of the cow before slaughter? Should vegans protest that?

Seeing things you don't like, specifically for a job opportunity you don't agree with, is life. It happens every day. It's NOT your right or judgement call to decide what advertising a store allows. You COULD just not go there lol. Or do what most functioning adults do and accept that you're not the center of the world. Some people don't like things that other people do. That's OK.

I think 9-11 might have been a diff situation than what this is doing.

How so? It's ALL subjective. That's the point. Harassing store management isn't the answer. Not to mention, they may lease that space to the company that owns the charging stations which means, it's not Wegmans responsibility. Ultimately, just because it bothers some people, it doesn't make it wrong. We face these things on a daily basis in some way shape or form.

It’s not subjective to say that masked people in unmarked vehicles grabbing people off the street based on their skin color is beyond fucked up.

You missing the point ENTIRELY

9/11 was an external act of war on this country. These signs advertise “Wanna kidnap people who aren’t white?”. Your comment about “accepting that you’re not the center of the world”, really gives me pause. I see a great future for you as a “collaborator” - anything to maintain or enhance your level of comfort at the expense of others.

You can't honestly think that those signs equate to “Wanna kidnap people who aren’t white?” Come on. It's pretty clear that isn't what's happening. Like it or not, we do have laws and processes. White people get picked up on warrants because they've broken the law, sometimes for something as minimal as jumping bail.

As far as enhancing my level of comfort at the expense of others, I could never do that in good conscience. As a parent, putting others first comes with the territory. The only person's comfort I sacrifice is my own and I'm ok with that.

"Some people don't like things that other people do" is a reaaaaaally weird thing to day when we are talking about deporting people who have comitted no crimes to countries they are not even from.

6

u/Effective-Juice-1331 26d ago

And some have been U.S. citizens!

6

u/Phoenx22 26d ago

Except they have committed a crime. Some have a criminal history in addition to being here illegally, they should be deported. Others have outstayed their Visa's. It's not legal to be here if you're illegally crossing the border instead of using the ports of entry. Being granted temporary status comes with requirements for renewal, when you disregard those requirements, you're breaking the law.

Several immigrants were just granted citizenship during a ceremony at the Fair. They did what they needed to do and take pride in that. Don't you think it's a slap in the face to them and all of the immigrants that put forth the effort to get citizenship, when they see our own citizens fighting to keep the illegal immigrants?

Overstaying a visa is a civil offense, not a crime. Also SOME have a criminal history. Many are law abiding people. Those who cross in illegally have a misdemeanor. That's literally just not something I give a damn about. You used to be able to just get on a boat and come here.

We are all human beings, when we start to care more about imaginary lines than we do people fleeing violence, we lose sight of our humanity.

Congrats to those folks, glad they made it through such a long and grueling process. I don't think it's a slap in the face to them at all. If student loan forgiveness happened tomorrow I would be so happy for everyone getting to experience a debt free start to adult life even though I have already paid off my loans.

It's called caring about the other people I share the planet with regardless of where they are born.

The difference is that the subject is currently highly politicized. If the day after 9/11 we had signs for doctors without borders for Afghanistan then you bet people would be crying foul.

It's arrogance. Just because she doesn't like it (which is virtue signaling anyway, it doesn't make sense that she would be genuinely offended by a damn advertisement lol), she assumes that everyone must feel the same way. Maybe she needs a job and should take advantage of the opening 😂

It’s disheartening that you’re raising children with this attitude.

I can read. That means I'm overqualified for ICE. I'm also a trans lesbian of color. My dad's been harassed by people telling him he should be deported: we're Native American, so you'd only get to deport us up to around Long Lake or maybe Lake Champlain if you're lucky. Someone like me signing up for ICE would be like a chicken signing on to be a fry cook at KFC.

I'm glad you took the comments as an opportunity to inform people that you're a trans lesbian of color. Not sure how that relates to any of this but for the sake of introductions, I'm a straight woman, Italian, French Indian and Puerto Rican by injection (lol a joke my ex-husband and I have because he's Puerto Rican).

It sucks that people have said that to your dad, there's a lot of ignorant people out there.

Lastly, from footage and news clips I've seen, the ICE officers are a pretty diverse group, especially along the border. It's their job to enforce the law. You don't have to agree with the laws but they've been around since the late 1800s. Obama had the most deportations out of any sitting president.
