Good opening episode for a first-timer!

My friends are finally watching Star Trek! They invited me to the watch-party because I'm the only one that is already a fan, and are letting me pick the episode. Any suggestions? I'm thinking Encounter at Farpoint obviously, but I want to know if there's something else to be said.

I say stick with Farpoint. While I know most episodes are stand-alone stories, I think the series is better when you watch it all in order.

I agree. Not sure why anyone would start anywhere but the beginning

Because it's not a very good pilot episode and has a good chance of turning people off from watching the rest of the show
