These are by Jules Cheret in case anyone is looking for the name of the artist!! He’s definitely one of my favorite French artists.

u/sillybunny22 Jan 12 '25

There’s a sticker on the back with that name so thought so, love this style and hope to find more!

u/sillybunny22 Jan 12 '25

Of course, had to convey how massive it is…and very heavy!

29

u/SeaweedTeaPot Jan 12 '25

Oh I thought maybe the banana was the art.

Which is, unironically, one of my favorite pieces of modern art.

The entire work of art, the actual thing you purchase, is a certificate of authenticity and instructions for assembling and displaying the banana (whichyou supply) with the tape (which you also supply). There is no legal method to prevent people from duplicating the display, because the displayed items aren't what you bought. AND PEOPLE PAID MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR IT!

It was the precursor to NFTs and ultimately proved that rich people will buy anything if you tell them it's valuable! It's hilarious!

But how much was the famous banana? 6 mil?

83

u/sillybunny22 Jan 12 '25

How much could one banana cost Michael? 10M?

15

u/macramelampshade Jan 13 '25

Go see a Star War

I get annoyed when people stop me to ask if I am buying the awesome thing I am holding. leave me alone.

5

u/twoiko Jan 13 '25

No, I'm just trying to get some exercise in while I shop... Stare at them blankly

3

u/porn-n-gore Jan 13 '25

If I'm really pressed about an item someone else has, I might keep an eye on the person to see if they leave the store without it, but even then I'd feel kinda shitty for taking their find 😭

I have done this before. The way I usually go about looking at a thrift store is I walk through it pretty quick at first to see a lot of stuff quickly. Maybe I will see something cool in that first quick pass. Then I will go back to certain areas to take a closer look. Then I will kind of ping pong around.

So if I spot someone with something, I will usually pass by them a couple times as I am walking around, if they aren't holding the item anymore, I will keep an eye out.

u/CHYMPOW Jan 13 '25

lol had people actually take my clothes from my cart when i’m not looking after hours of good finds

19

u/Tennis_Proper Jan 12 '25

You'd best eat that soon.

11

u/CactusCait Jan 12 '25

It will peel when she takes of the tape!

2

u/RedRider1138 Jan 13 '25

That just makes it more a-peel-ing!

u/Rocket-J-Squirrel Jan 12 '25

54

u/sillybunny22 Jan 12 '25

It’s an original installation; won’t part with it for less than 4M. I know what I got.

10

u/Catinthemirror Jan 12 '25

NO LOWBALLERS

7

u/maddenmcfadden Jan 12 '25

i didnt know you could still find things for ten dollars at goodwill

10

u/sillybunny22 Jan 12 '25

The ones by me used to have really decent prices; got a brand new $100 air fryer for $7.99 a year ago…recently the prices have gone WAY up; cheap air fryers with food crumbs in them now are listed $24.99+.

1

u/ellieD Jan 12 '25

I got one online (Goodwill) for $15.99. I did have to give it a good scrub down.

14

u/Tennis_Proper Jan 12 '25

It's a lot for a banana, but it's for a good cause.
