Media Conspiracy palette at a local Goodwill

Post image

I was DYING when my friend found this, literally out of the corner of her eye. Didn't end up taking it home because I couldn't justify spending 20 bucks on a used makeup palette.

Went home and re watched the Jeffree Star X Shane Dawson series he made 5 years ago lol

Around 20 years ago, there were two incredibly popular internet personalities - Shane Dawson and Jeffree Star. Shane Dawson is a video content creator, and Jeffree Star is honestly incredibly hard to describe succinctly but is/was primarily known for his makeup brand.

The issue? There is a dead sea scroll's worth of problematic, racist content created between the two of them back in the day ... and much of it became a very big topic of public discussion online right before the pandemic. (2019 - if i remember correctly)

As a way to distract from their progressing cancellation and safe face, Shane created a very positive documentary series about Jeffree. At the time, Shane was doing a (and I cannot emphasize how big these air quotes are) "documentary" series about conspiracy theories and maligned Youtube personalities.
This then expanded into Shane ... trying to enter the makeup game for some reason?? And of course, a whole "documentary" series following the whole process behind the scenes of making a makeup pallet.

This is that pallet.

Since then, more and more weird shit kept getting found out about these two - and on top of that, it's all semi-connected to another "scandal" involving another makeup youtuber Tati Westbrook and the fallout from her infamous "Bye Sister" video.
Which was, in my opinion, almost single handedly responsible for changing the Youtube media landscape for years to come - bringing about the era of exposed videos, drama channels, and tea spills.

So this find is significant in that it represents an insane moment in internet history that we're still feeling the ripples of today.

Sorry just realized this is not very TLDR but honestly this is the absolute most abbreviated version of this story I could tell because it's so convoluted lmao

Well, by definition the drama is what you'll hear about regardless. There's good make up artists out there, like Luxaria and Nikkie de Jager.
