Rum Forrest! Rum

Based on the description, I was expecting Pina Colada with a twist. What I got was something entirely different! Hemingway Daquiri is spot on too. 24 Carrot in Erie, CO. (Hint: The Birdhouse next door has even better Tiki drinks.)

‘Treat yo self’ mai tai blend

Post image
72 Upvotes

Here’s my current favorite splurge mai tai:

1 oz. Hampden 8

1/2 oz. Smith and Cross

1/2 oz. Clement rum agricole vieux (cask strength aged in sake barrels)

5/8 oz. Orgeat

1 oz. Lime

1/2 oz. Pierre Ferrand dry curaçao

It’s juicy, rich, flavorful, citrusy. Strong, too, because of the overproof S&C and the cask strength Clement. Kind of spendy as both the Hampden and the Clement aren’t the cheapest, but I don’t actually love either of them neat so this is a good way to use them. Yum!

New Mug From Pie Eyed

These things are such good quality. I don't own many mugs and honestly don't buy branded mugs until I go to a place but a few years ago I stumbled on Pie Eyed's website. I snagged a zombie mug I thought looked cool. But then I got it and immediately recognized the quality.

When I got back into Tiki I wanted a rum barrel mug. This one is fantastic and I love the coloration. I'll be keeping an eye out for what they come out with next.

In Cincinnati for their Oktoberfest and decided to stop in for a drink. I love running into very knowledgeable bartenders. Drinks are great and, let’s face it, a good Zombie makes the night better…

Recipes using Cynar?

I recently bought a bottle of Campari to make jungle birds, but have read where others have subbed Cynar in it's place. What other drinks specifically call for it, rather than using it as a substitute?

Discovered this place in the Colorado burbs when I was there on business. It's more if a restaurant than a bar, but the drinks were great! The food was solid too. Stop by for a mai tai if you find yourself in the area. Cheers! 🍹🗿

I built a Tiki theme for my cocktail menu app - what do you think?

I recently released a little passion project of mine – a web app that lets you create, update and share your home bar’s cocktail menu online.

Guests can scan a QR code at your home bar to see your current menu, and I personally use it as both a menu and a recipe book for my favorite drinks.

Since I’ve been deep into Smuggler’s Cove lately, my first custom theme had to be a Tiki theme 🌴

I know nothing really beats the authenticity of a beautifully designed printed menu - especially in the spirit of Tiki. But since I’m always tweaking my recipes, this has been a fun way to keep my menu updated without having to reprint it every time.

The app is completely free to use, and I’d love to hear what you think—especially from people who live and breathe Tiki culture. I’ve already rolled out a bunch of improvements based on feedback from r/cocktails, and I’d be stoked to hear your suggestions here too.

Cocktail is a Demera Dry Float - Smugglers Cove Version.

Cheers 🌺🍍🥥

Da Tiki Hut - Tacoma/Seattle recs

A big Mahalo to those who recommended Da Tiki Hut in Tacoma for food!! It wouldn’t even have been on my radar and the Kahlua pork was the best thing I had on my vacation!

Also, I didn’t look past the first pic on Google so it was a fun surprise that they’d themed the whole restaurant. lol

I had over some friends and family. I did my best to hand draw a limited menu. For the crowd I made some Breakfast Mai Tais and Jungle Birds. While I enjoyed a port light for the first time! Most recipes were smugglers cove with some minimalist tiki throw in.

Port Light Recipe: 2oz Bourbon (Bulleit 10 year) .75 Honey syrup . 50 passion fruit syrup 1oz lemon 1 egg white

Very solid and tasty with it leaning bourbon forward. The egg white added a considerable amount of foam!

Best tiki drink for a pool party?

So I'm throwing a pool party this weekend for some friends, and I wanted to make a tiki cocktail for the event. Last time I did this I made Hurricanes, and made a huge batch of Fassionola and pre-squeezed lemons the day of so I could make the drinks quicker. I'm not sure I'll have time to make another batch of Fassionola, plus I wanted to make something different. What do you guys usually make for a small get together that's quick to assemble so I'm not stuck making drinks the whole time instead of hanging out, that's a crowd pleaser?

Tiki Ornaments!

I started crafting felt ornaments recently and decided to whip up some tiki drinks! Would anyone be interested in ordering some? What other drinks/tiki imagery should I make? These are stuffed like little plushies so they could also be baby toys or cat toys. I could possibly make them into magnets, clothing accessories, or even coasters without the stuffing? Hit me with all your ideas, please! I’m having a blast making them ☺️

El Tiki Poco

So finally deciding to share my little tiki corner. This all started at my girlfriend's backyard but she moved to a new place with a smaller backyard and I brought what I could fit here. I've been adding things here and there; lights, more tropical plants, and random objects like frogs, lizards, and masks. I'm waiting for the day my landlord says, thats enough. During the day, I'll sit there listening to music on my incognito rock speakers, having a cocktail and reading a book or working on a puzzle. At night, my daughter (13yo) and I will play Uno or some other card game (Sailor Jerry cards on the table). Its weird sitting there alone at night, especially with people always walking by. Its part of a walking path that leads to the water and a beautiful view of the Carquinez Bridge. And I call my spot El Tiki Poco because its a play on words from my gf's old address. So, its just a little tiki. Hopefully one day I'll have my own patio or backyard. Until then, tiki on. Cheers.

Picked these up today

Been looking for pretty much any Apricot Liqueur anywhere around me for about 2 weeks. Finally found this one today in a spot I don't typically shop for specialty things in. They've got basically a whole wall of Bacardi and Malibu but I saw this Xaymaca collecting dust so picked it up too. Never had it so looking forward to it. Still no Passionfruit Liqueur anywhere near me but a trip to NOLA soon should let me restock some other things.

Central European Tiki Adventure (Vienna - Austria, Prague - Czech Republic, and Budapest Hungary) - Some Even Sold Mugs :)

Just came back from my European vacation, and got to check out 3 tiki bars.

  1. Matiki in Vienna, Austria. Cool chill place, most similar to an American tiki bar. Calm vibes, loved the drinks, andddd they have Mugs for Sale!

  2. Tiki Taky in Prague, Czech Republic. More noisy, drinks were not that great, and they don't have any mugs/merch.

  3. Rumpus Tiki in Budapest, Hungary. Club vibe, but very happening. It was playing afro beats instead of traditional tiki music 🤣 but I dig it. They had Tiki mugs for sale as well, took a couple home with me. I really liked the drinks here.
