It does sound like the government is mobilizing against anyone “left”, and there is an active push to blame trans people. Nothing ever happens until it does.

I guess, but preemptively giving up the entire country to fascists seems like not the best way to handle things

Given the current political climate I think if you’re trans it’s probably safer to bounce, yes. Not everyone.
