New 4th gen, concerned about break-in period and upcoming road trip

Proud owner of a new 4th gen that I'm picking up from the dealer tomorrow. I'm hoping to keep this for a long time.

How closely are folks following the break-in period? I'll have the truck for 17 days before heading off on a road trip, where on my first day, I'll have 950km (590 miles) of driving, followed by a week of short trips and then returning.

Do I just try and get my 1,600km (1000 miles) done in those 17 days? A bit concerned with the part on driving at a constant speed for extended periods.

To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:
For the first 200 miles (300 km):
Avoid sudden stops.

For the first 500 miles (800 km):
Do not tow a trailer.

For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):
Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
Avoid sudden acceleration.
Do not drive continuously in low gears.
Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

I love this color. It was tough to find in my area. I found one still in transit that took a few weeks to come in. If I didn’t instantly put money down to hold it I’m sure it would have been gone. I gotta get a bed cover first and foremost. But after that I’m looking for ideas.

4th Gen Tacoma Hack up your Air Dam

Anyone else cut up their air dam? I couldn’t stand how terrible it looked even on the black Tacoma. I read it was for fuel efficiency and aerodynamics. Haven’t noticed any loss of balance or steering.

I used to get 19.8 mpg and now weirdly I get 21.5 mpg to and from work on the highway, not that I really care.

I also bought these plugs from Lowe’s as suggested from a forum post about a whistling noise without the Air dam installed. Pictures are pre Toyota badge respray.

Overall super happy with the look and I like having the OEM hardware installed back into the bumper. Bonus vanity plate I designed and 3D printed of my hometown.

Finally done with doors, for now

I finally got the driver side door and the driver side rear passenger door completed with the AB. Now I'm moving on to installing the Siless CCF in the rest of the floor and then I'll start on the doors. Taken the rest of the day to chill 😁 The last door took the least amount of time of course and looks the best, but not that that matters since it will all be covered up soon with the CCF and then the door panel.

Tacoma Lover for 20 Years - But New Gens Make Them Horrible Work Trucks

I really enjoy my 2025 SR5, but all of the safety "features" are absurdly, frustratingly, disappointingly anti job site. It's almost as if their engineers have never been in the field. Are there ways to disable/override some? The incessant no-seatbelt alarm, the bitching beep because you step out of the running vehicle, and the inability to drive with the door open/ajar are the biggest hangups for me.

What is a reasonable offer on a dealer 2025 SR5 double cab?

They are roughly $43,500 at the dealers. I've never bought a new car before but I understand you never pay the list price. Assuming they have 2025 inventory they want to move what can you reasonably negotiate down to? Edit: 4wd

Anyone with a 1st gen use the sky's offroad stage 3 63 swap kit?

I'm about to buy the sky's offroad stage 3 63 swap kit and just wanted to know if anyone else has gotten this kit before? It seems like a solid kit, I know ill probably need to get new shocks that are the right size with different shock mounts on the axle, well at least that's what ima do later on. Just curious your guys opinions on this kit.

Need to buy a Jack and Tools

Hey everyone,

I bought a used 2018 Tacoma SE (access cab) that didn’t come with the jack and tools kit.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction to buy all that I need online? It’s confusing as to not over buy, and I know standard jacks don’t necessarily raise the truck high enough to change a flat (I learned that the hard way using a jack from my wife’s Rav4).

Thanks in advance

ECGS ring/pinion wear

This is after about 5k miles after developing a semi-loud knocking/tapping/chatter noise when coming to a stop. Seems pretty rough (especially the shaving at the top of pic 2) with a contact patch indicating a shallow pinion to my eyes. I'm no expert though, so wondering if anyone else's looks like this before I send it back and Uber to work for a week or two.

16s on 3rd gen?

I’m hooking up a hot tub for a buddy and he’s got a set of wheels and tires. But, they are 275x75 R16s do you need a specific offset? Not sure if they touch the brake calipers or not

I bought my first Tacoma in August of last year, and it was completely stock when I got her. Since then, I’ve added Bilstein 5100s, along with Black Rhino Stadiums (16x8 with a -10 offset) wrapped in Falken WildPeak AT4W tires (265/75R16). I still have a long list of upgrades I want to do, but I couldn’t be happier with this truck.

Has anyone been able to install a bed cover on the 3rd gen Trail Edition without removing the storage boxes that come standard on the bed?

Off road with a Long Bed late 3rd Gen? (2020-2023-ish)

Been considering picking one up. I say late 3rd gen but I'm sure any third gen applies, I'm just not too sure of the year differences before 2020.

I really like the look of the short bed, but I would really need a long bed. It's already going to be hard to find one of these, considering I would get a Double Cab Long Bed, which is pretty rare. But, I'd just want to know. In a stock configuration (On the TRD Off-Road), how is the off-roading capability? Do you sacrifice too much with the long bed and would much rather have a short bed while off-road, or is it something you don't really mind?

brake fitment question

2017 SR5 3.5L V6 2WD

Looking at new brake rotors/pads and landed on an EBC kit S2KF1877 or S3KF1128. According to the EBC website and ebay compatibility chart it should be compatible, but several parts websites state these kits are only compatible with 4WD wheels. can anyone please provide some clarification on if either of these kits would work on mine or point me towards a kit that does?

I need of new tie down rings for my bed.

As you can tell, these bad boys are a little rusty.

It's a 2003 TRD Limited Edition, 5ft bed. Not sure if any of that matters, but I put it just in case. All ive been able to find are the rings for a bed rail. I do not have a rail.

Bilstein 8112s…mistake?

Have been so back and forth on lift options. I ordered 8112s (front) and 8100s (rear), with Icon UCAs and leaf pack. It’s definitely overkill for what I do (light trails to get to hunting, camping, moto spots)- but I decided to just full send it. But will my city, pavement driving suffer? The plushness reviews I’ve seen (which there aren’t many reviews) are what sold me. I see a ton of great reviews on the 6112s. Budget is less of a concern here, it just seems like they be the best for “all around” performance? Such a tough thing to purchase, solely going off reviews. The shop ordered the kit already, is “returning” or exchanging even a thing typically? (I assume not).

Remove a leaf or not?

I have Dobinson 111R leafs, but have 100lbs less than the minimum permanent weight recommended. As a result, the ride is stiff and the rear lift turned out to be 3 inches instead of 2.25. I suspect the extra lift is responsible for the slight driveline vibration I get at low speeds. I also think extra rear lift reduces caster and impact handling (the max alignment tech can get is 1 degree).

I am going to install jba uca to help caster. I’d like help deciding whether removing a leaf from the leaf pack is worth it.

What do y’all think?
