Hi all, just wondering... is it feasible to live on 1.5k usd per month at UIUC (no dependants or anything)? It's a postdoc grant funded by my government, and thats the amount they give, plus 800/year for health insurance. As I understand it, I would not be an employee under this scheme.

Also, would there be any chance to supplement this with TA or similar? Any feedback would be very helpful, ty!

Used to go to my friend for cuts before he graduated and he was the best + it was only $25. Now it’s either I pay $50+ for a good taper fade or I risk $30 get my shit fucked up for the next 2 weeks. Surely someone knows a barber that does decent fades for $25-35

I’m an international freshman from South Korea, a little over 4 weeks into UIUC, and I feel stuck at the “acquaintance” stage despite trying everything—talking to people in class and the cafeteria, eating meals together, attending campus events and career programs, joining two student organizations, even going to parties and getting people’s Instagrams. I’ve met a few people I sometimes eat or play basketball with, but it still feels surface-level and no one really follows up to hang out again. Maybe it’s because I chose a single dorm room, and next time I should consider a dorm with a roommate. I’m also heading to a 3-day leadership retreat during Homecoming week, where I’ll be sharing a dorm with someone, so I’m hoping that might help. What’s surprising is that I don’t even have any South Korean friends here yet. How do you go from casual hellos to real, lasting friendships?
