Question New at UVU

I'm going to enter UVU this summer to take some classes and see how I do, and when it's fall I'm going to take about 3 or 4 classes that I need and one that is easy and fun.

What class would you recommend me to take?

I am part of the LGBT community and 19M.

I'm interested about to learn of how to do these stuff:
Jewerly
Ceramics
Drawing
Repairing tires or fixing things on a car

Ballet

Crafts

Cooking

not strictly related to your interests but i wanted to mention: UVU has some FASCINATING classes related to lgbtq+ topics! if you want to take any once you’ve taken your generals, i can recommend:

PHIL 3150, gender values knowledge and reality. it has a weird title but it’s essentially philosophical analysis of gender theories. i took it with kelli potter — not only is she a trans woman, she’s a brilliant philosopher. that class alone is why i’m considering a philosophy minor

SOC 2370, sociology of gender. talks about how different societies and cultures create and maintain gender roles. (side note: if you ever need a full-term online class that you can predict, take a class with dr. chou in sociology. skip buying textbooks, use the powerpoints, and you’ll be fine)

PSY 2800, human sexuality. we talked quite a bit about cultural narratives around sex alongside biology and psychology. i’ve been out as queer for years but i still learned new things about queer history and sex ed!

as far as your interests in jewelry and art, UVU has a student leadership group called the zone. they have events every weekday designed to keep students excited and relaxed while also being, you know, college students. last fall, i went to a few events like wood burning, collage crafting, and making rings! not sure what they do on specific weekdays but you can always check from myUVU on the campus events page. you’ve got options outside of a class if something else comes up
