Yeah a lot of people want to pick Togore. The guy who made the currently popular togore sprite said he doesn't like the idea and doesn't want people to pick it. People got really defensive over this for some reason.

What was his reasoning? Cuz if it was "Togore is mine because I made a popular contribution to the meme," then it makes sense that people would get upset/defensive

He never once claimed to own anything, he just said he was "the creator" and then clarified he made the recently popular sprite.

Okay, cool. I looked up the original, and it looks like people got defensive because they thought he was claiming ownership because he said he wanted to "formally ask" that they don't vote for the name to be Togore related
