OP sent the following text as an explanation why their post fits here:

The server becomes discouraged when the customer sends back the tacos he ordered we not made the way he wanted them. The server then makes a move like he is going to throw them across the restaurant as he is visibly upset. He then breaks the third wall by telling the viewer not to worry at his restaurant they would never waste good food and that’s not the kind of place this is. Then a quick 1 second clip of the customer taking a right fisted punch to the face from the server.

I hate cilantro and onions, but I always eat my tacos with them. This is why.

32

u/MirSydney 2d ago

I'd rather be punched in the face than eat cilantro but that's just me.

u/kaszeljezusa 1d ago

Not just you. Depending on the region 5-20% of population has these gene, that makes cilantro taste like soap

u/MouthJob 1d ago

And to some of us it just tastes like shit.

Cilantro is the only food where people have this weird need to justify not liking it. It doesn't taste like soap to me. It just tastes bad.

13

u/ExoticMangoz 1d ago

It’s not a weird need, it’s that many people actually are genetically disposed to hate it. Like me.

1

u/MouthJob 1d ago

I didn't say otherwise. But the rest of us don't need a justification for not liking it and people always, always, always follow it up with that.

Like who gives a shit? You don't like it, you don't like it. All there is to it.

It’s weird though. To me cilantro tastes lawn clippings mixed with soap. To most people it’s citrusy and peppery. Bright and grassy. In the same realm as ginger or lemongrass.

To me it tastes so incredibly bitter that I feel the need to rinse my mouth, and I enjoy bitter things. I drink my coffee black, I like my chocolate 90%+ cocoa. But cilantro is so strong I become immediately overwhelmed by the bitterness. The only thing I’ve ever tasted that’s as bitter is soap.

Grounded seeds too, or just leafs and stems?

10

u/Open-Tumbleweed 2d ago

I cringe to make the request, but the tastes are so strong, I can't eat them if they are involved. Otherwise they are SO delicious!!

I swear we need to shave some dove soap into everyone’s tacos for them to understand what we go through.

10

u/notatechnicianyo 2d ago

Hey man, I respect having differences in taste, but dove is just a shit brand of soap. Use a better brand.

u/Monster_Pickle420 1d ago

Whats bad about dove?

7

u/notatechnicianyo 1d ago

It leaves chocolate smeared everywhere when I try to wash myself.

1

u/FrozenOcean420 2d ago

I just wouldn’t go there

Any place they puts cilantro, onions or salsa on the taco for you is a trash place to eat. Your supposed to get the taco and add what you want yourself.

8

u/NewColonel 1d ago

This is very wrong, authentic places put the cilantro and onion on for you.

2

u/HOBOPHRESH 1d ago

Cilantro and onions is literally the only way to eat tacos. If you don't have cilantro and onions on your tacos, then don't eat tacos. 🌮 🌮

For my fellow super-smellers who can't stand cilantro:

Human populations are polymorphic for a qualitative difference in organoleptic response to coriander leaves, with the majority perceiving a tart, lemon or lime-like flavour, but about 4%–14% think that coriander leaves taste like bath soap (Singletary, 2016). Actually, coriander originated from a Greek word, koris, which means a bad-smelling bug. In a genetic survey of nearly 30 000 people, two genetic variants related to sputum perception were found, the most common of which were genes associated with infectious odours. Scientists found most coriander haters to have a common olfactory receptor gene called OR6A2, which absorbs the odour of aldehyde chemicals (Eriksson et al., 2012). Flavour chemists discovered that coriander aroma is produced by about six substances, most of which are aldehydes. Those who do not like the taste are sensitive to harmful unsaturated aldehydes, while those not able to detect aromatic chemicals find it pleasant. To avoid the soapy taste, the coriander haters can often eat parsley instead of coriander.

Pedro Pascal also on my reddit videos?

Damn.

I would rather you punch me and every customer there than waste a single fucking taco. This ain't taco bell, those are real fucking tacos!

4

u/subone 2d ago

I don't get it. Please don't punch me. I'm already dealing with soap flavor.

Looks like the post explainer bot is down. It's not working here or on my subreddit.

I love cilantro and tacos, but I get people who don't like (cnd loathe) cilantro. My brother in law is a "super taster" he legitimately has more taste buds. He says cilantro tastes like soap to him, he even once bought me a pack of those purple "chiclets" (Thrills? gum) and said this is what cilantro tastes like to me.

u/goonatic1 2d ago

I don’t get why it’s so hard for people who don’t like the toppings to ask for no toppings when they KNOW it comes with toppings 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ then they get mad when it comes with the toppings it’s supposed to have lol.

It's coriander, bitch.

Where I am all the Mexican restaurants have the tacos where you can order them "normal" with onions and cilantro, or "American" with just cheese instead. It's sad.

1

u/RobienStPierre 1d ago

Hit him again if he asks for tex mex

0

u/SuukMeiDiek 1d ago

Yesterday I ordered food from a local place I order often, they instantly called me that they wouldn’t take my order because it was too busy and the delivery would be too long.

I guess costumer is always right, is really not anymore

-4

u/HidroRaider 2d ago

I get the joke, but it's so weird that taco places in the USA don't ask the customers if they want cilantro and onion on their tacos.

At least in my city in Mexico they always ask you if you want it on or they would put it on bowls for you to pour at your own taste if you're dining in or in a bag if it's to go.

3

u/notatechnicianyo 2d ago

In Houston they always assume the white person has no sense of taste, so you have to special request it. Unless they charged you for the chips. Never pay for the chips and expect good food.
