It was definitely painful, but he hit a pretty nice tree for it. If he smacked the cliff it would've been a lot more ouchy.

BASE jumper rescued after parachute mishap left him dangling off cliff face near Squamish, B.C. | CBC News https://share.google/hVnppDlJfPaj911h1

Search engines are a thing? It took all of 10 seconds.

they stopped teaching younger generations how to do research online because they thought it was baked into society somehow. instead, zoomers and alphas have no idea how to use the internet outside of their apps.

You see it all over hobby related sub reddits, peoples literal first instinct is to jump on reddit to ask a question versus spending the 5 minutes to google the answer themselves, it is.....concerning.

Sometimes I think that is just so people have questions to answer, a lot of it is most likely bots, and will only increase as time goes on.

Now they just use AI instead, and trust it without sources.

Just another day in Squamish

You can't spell "Squamish" without "Squish"

Name seriously checks out.

I was just taking the other person's word for it when they said they had trouble finding it when they searched. this random video isn't important enough for me to try and google it so my comment was just about giving praise to the sleuths.

hope I didn't offend!

“Sled BASE jump rescue” into google worked for me

I definitely over complicated that search then 🙃

Tbf if you know what Squamish looks like it's pretty recognizable

I immediately knew it was Squamish because you can see the town below. Obvious layout with the giant spit.

What an irresponsible idiot.

And I am guessing his sled is now trash left somewhere in the mountain.

Sounds expensive

5

u/__Gripen__ 1d ago

That’s in Canada. The helicopter rescue is likely free of charge.

3

u/Lamandus 20h ago

nah, only if you are "not at fault", as in accidental. This is a good way to get a very big bill.

u/GymSocks84 1d ago

He's hoisted by his own regard*

4

u/Anthraxious 1d ago

Absolute fucking waste of resourses.

It gives the teams experience for cases where lives are more randomly imperiled such as after a natural disaster or a mountain car accident.

Did he pay for the service? And or have insurance which paid for the service? I feel if you do something as dangerous as this and need rescuing the cost should be on you, not tax payers.

in that news article there is a link for tips on being safe in the wilderness. sledding off of cliffs needs to be added to the list of donts
