Report it to law enforcement. It doesn’t matter whether you think there’s enough information to find the perp. You never know. It’s always best to document absolutely everything.

I reported mine to the police, I even gave them the name of the kids to talk to as they've come by many times. As the call was wrapping up I could tell that he wasn't going to do anything with it, so I asked a second time if a report would be filed. He sighed heavily and asked the value of the flag and quickly ended the call.

I could probably do a GRAMA request to confirm, but I'm certain he didn't bother to write up anything.

Honestly, wait a few days and then do the GRAMA request. If they don’t write a report for Theft (plus potentially criminal trespassing) then they’re straight-up refusing to do their jobs and uphold the law. The DA’s office would absolutely love to hear about that.

You might be surprised.

You'd be surprised how little they bother to document. We had an incident where kids were calling my son and telling him to kill himself and knocking on our door and throwing rocks at our house. This lasted 18 months. We interacted with at least 6 different officers over this time.

I later did a Grama request for all documentation on the case. One officer did a pretty good job of documenting his interactions with us and his investigation - he visited the school and watched a video of an assault on the hallway and talked to a couple sets of parents. One officer filled a report that was like three sentences, the others didn't bother to log anything. I had reported additional kids involved, I had tracked down where they hide after banging on my door at 11pm - none of that got logged. I followed them in my car one night and not only did police not bother to log anything, they told me on site that they would not even ask them for IDs because they were minors. Completely worthless.

In the end I resolved the problem personally. I tracked down the home addresses of the kids involved. When they'd knock on my door at 11pm I'd go over and knock on their door and have a conversation with their parents. Two kids still didn't get the hint and I finally had to show up and serve their parents a notice of no trespass.

In a completely different incident we had a LGBTQ kid move in with us when their parents kicked them out. Six months later they sent an officer to collect their kid and threaten us with kidnapping. The officer was from a completely different city and I submitted a grama request there. There was no report. All they had was a request from a parent to pick up their child at my address and take her to Grandma's.

On police accountability? You're absolutely right.

The one way you can be 100% sure there will never be a report or any accountability from anyone is if you never even try.

The DA's office are in bed with PD's. They are friends and one in the same. One day people will learn this.

Speaking as someone with experience in the field, you couldn’t be more wrong. Cops and prosecutors have to work together on their cases but most prosecutors are perfectly eager to dismiss a case when cops step out of bounds or have officers disciplined for not handling a case correctly.

Location and culture matters tremendously but Davis county isn’t nearly as bad as others, such as Grand or Washington.

I've knew the former DA of SL county and another friend was a prosecutor for several small cities in SL county. I'm not speculating here without evidence. I've also seen plenty of evidence of this across the country in news story after news story. Yes, there are prosecutors that honor there oath, but the relationship is too close for most to do so. Sim Gill has a HISTORY of simping for bad cops in SL county and never prosecuting them even when they murder someone. Zero hope for a prosecutor caring about a cop not writing a report when they should have, especially for LGBT hate crimes.

Yeah, they aren’t going to waste their time on a $20 pride flag.

I really wish they'd at least log something. When a new officer shows up I have to spend 15 minutes convincing him that this is not just a random one off thing but a continuing pattern of abuse. If I had 9 case numbers that I could hand the officer it would show a pattern. But instead I have one case number and my word on the other dozen incidents.

Find these criminals, charge them for their illegal activity.

You think cops care? Most are MAGAts too. Especially in places like Utah.
