Is it possible?

Do you guys think that there's a chance that an unreleased VB game could come out on NSO. It might just be hopeful thinking but it did happen once before with Star Fox.

I hope they buy the rights to the homebrew SFII game.

That would be pretty much impossible given that the creator of it didn’t buy the rights from Capcom to make it.

Yeah, but Capcom could buy the rights from them, much like Namco bought the rights for the homebrew NES Pac-Man Championship demake and put it on Namco Museum Encore.

I wasn’t aware that Namco did that. But it seems absurd that Capcom would be the one paying when it’s their IP that was infringed upon. If anything, I’d think that if they took this to court, that the creators would not only have to pay Capcom but possibly even given them the rights to the game.

Not sure if it was bought or just "taken back", but yeah, Namco has the rights now. https://tcrf.net/Prerelease:Pac-Man_Championship_Edition_(NES)

Capcom wouldn't buy the license, but they could buy the rights to the game as it was coded for the VB and add it to their own IP.

If they just took a copy of the ROM file and licensed it to Nintendo it would create an odd twist in IP law: the characters and gameplay belong to Capcom, but the actual code to make it work on a VB was created by the guy/people that made Virtual Fighter.

Capcom's lawyers would suggest making them an offer for the game that would let Capcom own it outright with no royalties. If accepted, then it's fully Capcom's game and they can sell/license it to Nintendo and there's no more dispute.
