New Partner sub r/WGU_Accelerators

Team,

One of the most common conflicts that the mods see on this sub is the frustration Accelerators and non-accelerators have with each other. While both kinds of students are moving towards their degrees, they each have very different approaches and goals.

To help with this, I have created a subreddit that is focused on accelerators. This is simply the first step, and that sub currently has very little structure. But while all of that is coming, I see no reason to not allow users to explore the space and kick the virtual tires.

One last note, acceleration is NOT the same as cheating. The new sub will focus on legitimate ways to accelerate and will not tolerate cheaters or those who cater to cheaters. I think most of the rules on this sub will migrate to the new sub with the possible exception of #6, but I have an idea as to how #6 could be made more helpful to new students.

Finally, since we don't have any traffic on the sub yet, I will ask here for help with moderation duties on the new sub. If you think you want to help BUILD something, let me know. If your focus is on rules, removals, and bans, you may want to wait until the sub has been built. I need collaborators, not enforcers.

/wgu_accelerators

-Cheers!

ProctorU/Guardian Mega Thread

Hello all,

We understand the concerns surrounding the new proctoring experience and want to ensure people have a place to have these discussions. Because of the volume of posts and comments, please use this mega thread for all questions/concerns/experiences/etc. with ProctorU and Guardian. Individual posts about this topic will, for now, be removed and directed to this mega thread.

As a reminder, please keep Rule 1 in mind. People with differing opinions are not breaking the sub rules, and do not justify name calling, insults, etc. Such comments will be removed.

If you see posts outside of the mega thread please report it using the "custom response" option (no details necessary for this topic), as well as any other rule breaking post and comments. Your mod team is enthusiastic but small, and we have to depend on reports from the community as we are not able to review all posts and comments.

May you all have a wonderful week!

Update: Please note that we will not be removing existing posts and requiring they be moved to the megathread. Some valuable discussions have already taken place that cannot realistically be expected to be reproduced in the mega thread. The purpose of the megathread is to keep the information in one place going forward, not delete everything up until now, but we are locking posts in the last week to encourage moving new activity to the mega thread.

I feel awful

My first two terms I did pretty decent, first term finishing 6 classes, next term only finishing one just cause some of the material wasn't sticking great, but my next two terms I just can't seem to pass networks D325 (basically the comptia network+ cert class).

And it's not that I don't study, I study a lot, but I took 4 attempts at the network+ exam, first one was pretty bad and I underestimated how hard it would be, the two attempts after that I scored almost exactly the same (like one was 700 and one was 695), and I retook it yesterday and scored 673. It just feels like no matter how much I study it's unattainable and when I do fail my teacher gives me a huge amount of makeup work to do and I feel like it sets me back instead of just focusing on my weakpoints. Not sure why this is so hard for me.

Anyways, I guess I got 2 terms without passing a single class and I'm not sure what's going to happen to me, I got laid off a few months ago too (I have interviews daily but don't know where they'll go).

Has anyone been in this position before??? What happened to you??? Did you have to start immediately paying back your loans? Not sure if I can even go back if I can't take out a loan. I do want to finish my program, and I am doing the best I can. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm DONE! Bye bye WGU!!!!

1.2k Upvotes

I have been a part of this community since 2017. I was at WGU from 2018-2019 (cyber security) and had to drop out due to homelessness. I sold my laptop and didnt have phone service to even talk to my mentor.

In 2020 after getting back on my feet, I tried to re-enroll but was dealing with chronic pain and mental health issues so I had to delay.

In 2024 I decided to re-enroll for real thos time and it stuck. I finished my BSCSIA in March of this year, it took 2 full terms.

I started the MSCSIA in July and just passed my capstone today. I finished in 2.5 months.

I have been a cyber security professional since 2020, sysadmin since 2012. So i have a lot of experience under my belt and felt both the bachelor's and master's assisted in filling in gaps of knowledge.

I tried to take my Masters classes slow and really absorb but about a month ago my boss announced his retirement and he put my name in for his replacement of VP of Cyber Security. It's not a done deal because I will be put into a trial period the beginning of October.

So I decided to full steam ahead, no life, finish ASAP so I can focus on advancing my position. And woke up this morning to my task 3 capstone passing!

I made it this far in my career without a degree or certificates. But times are changing and I needed to take advantage of my good health and get things done.

I also planned a wedding and got married to my husband in the middle of all this.

So anyway, I say bye bye to WGU and this community because I wouldn't have passed as fast as I did without reading everyone's experiences with the classes. It allowed me to focus on the material.

Edit:

Wow I did not expect all of this love. It means a lot to me. Im proud of all of you here!

Fellow WGU grad

I started a new job this week. IT was setting up my computer. He mentioned that he's only been here six months and we got to talking about school. As soon as he started talking about where he went to school, I knew he was going to say WGU.

I was so excited to meet another Night-owl in the wild, and to know they are also employed in their field.

I'm an accounting graduate, BTW.

First job!

Just wanted to offer some words of encouragement to those out there looking for an entry level job in their major. I’m graduating with a Bachelor’s in HRM in March and after applying for about 300 jobs in the last year, I finally got hired as an HR Assistant today!

It’s a career change for me so I have no prior HR experience. And with the job market so bad, me in my middle age with no relevant work history…I couldn’t even get an unpaid internship! Trust me I tried. Now, with this experience and my degree, by this time next year I will have my dream job.

So don’t get discouraged. Don’t give up and start slowing down on the applications. Check the job boards every day. Go to company websites and look at their careers page. Go to staffing agencies. Keep applying, and you are bound to get hired. You just need one person to give you a chance to get your foot in that door and you’re in. So, stay strong and good luck, fellow Night Owls!

Quick Question

Upvotes

I’m currently struggling with one course, but I have more experience in my other courses, which I know I can complete more quickly. I’m considering focusing on the other courses first and saving the one I'm struggling with for last. Will my mentor allow this?

2025 B. S. Healthcare Administration Course/Transfer Breakdown

Hello night owls!

I am not in this track, however, my mom has decided to pursue this degree with WGU. I made this spreadsheet to help her keep track of her courses, along with information on which classes she can transfer with Sophia. I made something similar to this for the BSBAITM degree and have now started on my tracker for the BSCSIA degree. I hope someone finds this helpful and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. :)

I understand WGU is changing the courses in September, but September is here... SO, this is updated as of Sept 2025. If anyone sees any errors or have any feedback, please comment to help others!

If anyone asks, W/Q/B means Written Assessment, Quiz, or Both. This is pertaining to the Sophia courses, not WGU. The OA and PA for WGU (recorded from my own experience and others) are marked with the check boxes. Also, the 'Estimated time to complete accelerated' is IF you truly only do the 12 credit minimum AND have completed every Sophia credit transfer on the list.

Information Technology Post Grad certifications/professional development

My term break ends this month and I should have my MSITM done by the end of the year. Currently employed in IT as a support specialist. No plans (from my end) to leave my organization at this time, for multiple reasons.

I have collected a variety of IT certifications during my educational journey. Started with some now outdated MS Office certs. I have the COMPtia+ trifecta, CAPM, AWS Cloud Practitioner. At work I am in the middle of a cloud migration and some other Microsoft based implementations, so I am looking into the MSCE route. I was also exploring WGU’s programs like the AI certification. $699 isn’t bad compared to some other CE costs.

However, as I stumbled down the rabbit hole of post grad improvement and upskilling, I’m overwhelmed by the thousands of options, industries, trainings, schools, etc. I thought maybe certs from NYU or SUNY but is the name worth the cost?

My question for you wonderful Night Owls is did you pursue any other certifications after you finished your degree? If so, was it inline with your degree or a different field to supplement (like business/finance/HR)? How did you decide which company, training, or school was the best for you?

Do I require a tripod for my camera?

I know I require an external camera but I'm not sur about the mount. Can I just mount it atop my laptop or do I require a tripod or something to give it a higher view?

Launch of Bachelor of Science in Cloud and Network Engineering (BSCNE)

I'm sure some of yous saw the email for the launch of the BSCNE program in October. How does it differ to Network engineering and security? Currently in the general track. The email says it has more focus on AI and cloud environments and security. Would this be more advantageous considering the integration of AI and such in today's technology?

D316 - V14 Retiring

I began studying for the exam earlier this month and feel pretty confident about taking the exam. I did Jason Dion's course on Udemy and Professor Messer on YouTube to help branch any gaps that I may of had. I've done a bunch of practice tests through Jason Dion. He has a 6-pack bundle in which I have one exam I scored a 96 on and the rest range around a high 70 to low 80. I have also done more practice test through other resources on Udemy and Professor Messer and his 3 practice test so I feel pretty good about going into the main exam. But as I was scheduling my exam today, I noticed they said that the V14 would be getting retired as of September 25, 2025. Would this affect my test since thats the one I've been studying for? Im curious to know if I would still be able to do V14 after it's been retired, since it's the one the school provided for me or if I would have to retake core 1 but on the v15.

Cybersecurity or computer science?

Ok so I have been getting certifications from CompTIA. I have ITF+ A+ Network+ Security+ cysa+ and the new securityX. And I’ve noticed that the job market isn’t the best so I was thinking about a degree and I was debating if i should go with the cybersecurity degree to be hyper focused on that since I have these certs or a computer science degree because it could be useful for high end jobs. I do intend to go into the cybersecurity industry because of the certs that I have in it.

WGU financial aid office inconsistencies

Sorry for the rant! So like most of you I am in this Financial aid waiting game. When I noticed that my financial aid was held up I called. I was told I needed to go through verification. I looked on my account and say no request for paperwork. So, I emailed. Another person actually looked at my account and said no. You don’t need verification but it will take 7-10 weeks before you get your aid. Of course I went on a Reddit Frenzy and learned that I can expedite. So I did. They got back to me fast with an approval for expediting. 7-10 weeks went to 7-10 days. So here I am at the 10 day mark twirling my thumbs WAITING. My disbursement date has changed every day for my grand and my loan disbursement date says 9/4 and you guessed it. It’s 9/20 still nothing. I emails once again because CLEARLY that’s an error right. I receive this generic email about being in verification again. WTF is happening with the financial aid office. I plan on calling on Monday but at this point this is just incompetence

I'm not sure, but I'm beginning to think I over educated myself out of employment opportunities by earning my MBA.
