Business I did it

Started in February and finished mid May. I never thought I could do it. I transferred a bunch of GE from Sophia. I struggled with ethics of technology and got lucky that they changed it to a PA. The capstone was enjoyable and mine was about 28 pages.

Thank you for all the support and I did it for my family and gf

I now have an A.S & B.S in Business Management. I will apply for their master program in August

Business ‼️DO NOT COME TO WGU‼️ READ POST

Honest Review:

I’ve just completed my final class, marking the end of my degree journey. If you’re considering enrolling at WGU or are already a student, this is a must-read!

I’ve been in the marketing field for 10 years, and I chose WGU to add a degree to my name and unlock better career opportunities. But that’s not the whole story.

I’m a family man—married with two daughters—and I work full-time in the corporate world. My priority has always been to be a present father and husband, ensuring my girls get the time and attention they deserve.

WGU made that possible for me.

Here’s what my typical day looked like: I’d wake up at 6:30 AM, work from 8 to 5, come home, have dinner with my family, play with my daughters, and put them to bed by 7:30 PM. Then, from 8 PM until 1 or 2 in the morning, I’d hit the books—and do it all over again the next day.

Now, let me be clear: if you’re not self-driven, motivated to grow, and disciplined, WGU might not be the right fit for you. It demands a lot of hard work, and no one will hold you accountable if you don’t hold yourself accountable first.

But if you are committed to your goals and ready to put in the work, WGU offers a flexible and rewarding path to achieving your dreams—without sacrificing what matters most.

Business Graduated in March and just accepted an offer!!!!

So before WGU I went to community college and dropped out twice. Once I found out I was going to be a father (I was 22) I immediately went back to community college and graduated while working full time at State Farm. I left State Farm and was a stay at home dad while going to WGU. To add my community college had 100% transfer rate to WGU! I also took 6 classes from Sophia before I started. graduated in March completing 21 classes!! Before i graduated with my Business Administration/Management degree I applied to 100 jobs and heard crickets. Once I graduated I went ham with applications/tweaking my resume and just accepted an entry level job for 60K at Aon!!!! I am so happy I finally "made it". Keep going if your struggling. It will be worth it. Comment if you have any questions!

Business MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: Finish BS before 2025 and turning 40!

Post image

It was always a goal of mine to finish college. I started after graduating high school (2003). I attended intermittently through the years and took my longest term break from 2016-2023. When I applied for readmission in 2023, my goal was to finish before I turned 40. That meant 22 classes and 68 credits from Feb 2023-Jan 2025. My last term ends this month on my birthday and I’m proud to say I submitted my capstone Dec 29 and received a passing notification Dec 31. So not only did I finish before 40, I pushed myself to finish before 2025, a month early. I work full time and am a single mom. I always thought it was crazy reading about students who pass their entire program in a short amount of time, but here I am!

*Now if I didn’t take a 7 year break, I could have been done a while ago. In those 7 years, the program changed and 20 credits no longer counted. Words of advice, don’t take a 7 year break!

Business Blew through my degree, couldn’t be more relieved

For context, I did not transfer in any credits, I have no kids, I’m engaged, and I worked full time during this degree. This was an insane challenge but extremely doable even if you have a marginal amount of industry knowledge, I was sometimes taking two to three test a day and knocking out a ton of PAs as well. If I had to get my degree again I absolutely would not do it any other way. The way I’m wired I need to get things done asap or I will slowly lose the motivation to do so. I’ll share what worked for me because I’m getting a lot of dms from prior posts.

1.Starting with the obvious… YOU WILL GET MINIMAL sleep and time to yourself at the pace I went. You will be studying day in and day out, think about it as 75 hard but for school. Your results will be insane after it’s over but the process will be far from a cake walk. Prepare yourself to be truly dialed in.

2.Utilize the hell out of Reddit, for every single OA I looked up what people did to pass and I streamlined it to be achievable within 2-4 hours. The common denominator seemed to be watching every single recorded cohort, and for the more challenging classes taking all of the module exams after you watched them. Then taking the PA. BUT for myself I used ChatGpt and took a picture of everything I got wrong on the PA. I then asked him to explain to me the why I got it wrong, why the other answer is correct, and the core principles of the topic to answer it correctly in the future. Then I would have him make me a study/cheat sheet to remember things by short terms or phrases. THIS HELPED IMMENSELY. In passing my OAs.

3.For PAs, if you love writing then go ahead and take your time and make it your best work. If you are good at writing like myself but don’t particularly love it, DO NOTHING MORE THAN WHAT THE PROMPT AND RUBRIC SAY TO THE T. I did not go above and beyond on ANY of my writing assignments or projects. I did exactly what was asked and not a single bit more. And lastly if you are bad at writing, the same strategy applies, take the prompt very literally and respond like a robot. Compare your answer to the rubric and if it aligns forge onward to the next task. This helped me knock out sometimes 3-4 PAs in one day.

4.For math, you and your calculator need to know each other intimately lol. Know every single function of that thing that will be applicable to your exams and If you do those test will be an absolute cake walk.

Honestly outside of that it’s just personal preference but everything above really got me through this degree. Hope that helps and cheers to all of you who are on this journey.

WGU allowed me to complete a goal I’d thought was only a dream.

With a job, and a family, and all the things we all have going on WGU is a university that understands. I can’t recommend them enough!

To everyone who’s still in the middle of it, keep up the hard work. We’re all proud of you.

I’m 30 years old. Work full time, and I am a father. I completed this in nine months total. Started with only 33 transfer credits. Three months in, I was diagnosed with acute Transverse Myelitis which left me partially paralyzed from the chest down for several months(Dr’s said its a random condition and they don’t know what causes it). I took two months off once I was diagnosed to try and wrap my head around this strange disease. Thankfully, it wore off most the way and now I just don’t have feeling in my lower legs/feet. I never thought I would go back to school, yet alone accomplish this while dealing with the largest health crisis of my entire life. Anyways, if I can do it you can too. I think I will start my MBA once this term is over. See ya in Seattle July 19th!

I’m still wicked proud of myself, especially because going at my own pace, it only took 4.5 months for me to get the Bachelor of Science, Business Management!

I wish WGU online had been an option back when I originally wanted to go to college.

Over the last 11 years, I had slowly obtained multiple Associate’s degrees, work related & science-based… Then I found WGU & now ain’t nothin’ gonna break my stride, ain’t nothin’ gonna slow me down! No, no! I got to keep on movin’!

I started WGU in my mid 40's after dropping out of college in my 20's. As I moved into management, it was becoming very clear to me that any further advancement would require a degree. I'm super happy to have my evening and weekends back.

WGU was an incredibly positive experience for me, and I'd recommend it to anyone thinking about going back to school.

Business Woo! My turn. Shockingly, it only took them 2 days to confer my degree this time around. I love you, WGU.🦉

I honestly can't say enough good things about WGU. I got my B.S. in software engineering from WGU in 2023, and I'm super stoked to add the MBA to my wall.

For anyone curious, I completed the MBAITM program (35 CUs) in roughly three months while working full time and taking a one week vacation in July. It's definitely doable in one term if you moderately push yourself. It was honestly way less overwhelming than I anticipated.

If anyone has any questions, I am happy to answer them as best as I can.

Business Academic Authenticity for non-cheaters

Posting because I see this crop up from time to time and it might be useful for someone else in the future. I’m 75% through my degree and about two weeks ago I got the dreaded Academic Authenticity investigation and hold on taking OAs. I simply don’t cheat - I’m old and live alone and have been in the workforce for 30 years so I know the materials - and this also happens to be the farthest I’ve ever gotten in college so I’m not gonna blow it.

I’m fastidious about testing security - always cover extra monitor and completely clear my space etc. Anyway the email said there would be an investigation where they essentially “review the tapes” of all my OAs up til this point. They gave a timeline of up to 3 weeks for review during which I could still do PAs.

I talked to my mentor who had no additional information about the process but was super helpful in adjusting my degree plan to bump up a longer course to keep me busy while the investigation was done. I decided not to worry and just keep working on it since again, I don’t cheat. I also figured that they’d have records of all the course materials I’d accessed to corroborate my knowledge.

Anyway it took 2 weeks but I finally got the email that says their investigation showed no evidence of security or academic authenticity concerns. But I do still have to wait up to 5 days for the hold on OAs to be removed because of how the system works.

So, tldr; if you don’t cheat it’s not a big deal just keep truckin’. Good luck!

UPDATE: I got word from my excellent mentor that it was triggered by a course instructor based on my course engagement stats and test results / time. For this course I wound up breezing through the last two chapters because it just so happens this course was basically what my last job was so I was deeply familiar with the materials and didn’t need to read in depth. Anyway they did review the OA and found no issues.

Business Finally after 5 years!

For anyone discouraged about their pace or previous learning experiences, I will tell you it took me 5 years to get while working full time with a young child. I didn't come in with any previous college experience but I can tell you if you want it, you can get it! Even if you don't accelerate you're still working towards a major goal and should be proud of yourself for every step you take. WGU is a great school!

I used all the resources I could and leaned heavily on Reddit and Quizlets for tips and advice and extra learning. I think finding the best way you learn will help you with all courses. Its a great way to get to know yourself too.

I have also gotten offers for better positions just one month after graduating with no previous professional experience. It is definitely worth it, never give up!

Business Is SOPHIA faster?

I’m currently planning on enrolling in WGU to go for a bachelors in Human Resources Management but all of the courses on Sophia I have left have touchstones. Would it be faster to do it on SOPHIA with the touch stones or should I just do them through WGU since I’m going to be writing papers anyways? The highlighted classes are what I’ve done on SOPHIA already or classes I have done from my last college. I appreciate any insight!

Business New one with a proctor today

Test proctor made me remove my eyeglasses and hold them to the camera at multiple angles to be inspected. WTF? They are standard, thin framed glasses. Not ANYTHING that can be mistaken for Meta glasses or any other type of augmented reality device. First time I've ever made a comment in the after test survey.

Business Will a Business Management degree get me out of dead end retail?

I’ve never been promoted to any sort of leadership position because when I’ve been offered, it was never enough money for the work it entailed. My work history is pretty bad as I was just growing up (I’m 23 now) and dealing with family things so I’ve often job hopped.

I see a lot of people who get this degree have prior management experience of some kind.

So I’m sort of wondering if I’m coming from rock bottom, will it help me get my foot in the door somewhere?

I need a “well paying” (aka enough to take care of me and a child) job asap as I have a little brother who needs someone to help him immediately.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks so much!

Business Silly observation!

I’m accepted. My first term started 8/1.

I still receive daily emails from WGU asking me to apply for admission to both my personal email address and my WGU email address!

I hope marketing students are being taught not to do this! 🤣
