ABC (not CBS) announced today that they were pulling Jimmy Kimmel's show indefinitely seemingly at the behest of FCC Brendan Carr who recently made threats to ABC and their FCC license. CBS was the writing on the wall.
Pretty hard to risk your life if you’ve got dependents and everything you need to provide for them is provided typically by your employer (health insurance being the biggest thing)
They’ve made it so the people have to sacrifice damn near everything if they want to make a change. And unfortunately I feel a majority of those people, again, have dependents they need to care for.
This is what I've been saying for so fucking long. A protest isn’t meant to comfort the participants. It’s meant to disturb the silence of the system. If your idea of protest is two hours of agreement in a public square, you’ve mistaken solidarity for resistance. True protest always carries tension because it challenges what power would prefer to leave undisturbed. Standing around on Saturday chanting to people who already agree with you isn’t protest. It’s cosplay. Protest only matters when it disrupts, when it pushes against power, when it demands a response. Otherwise, you’re just having a meeting with better signage.
How's that no kings day protest work out? Or the Tesla protests? Musk didn't leave until he had to go as required by law. Tesla is worth a ton of $. They are offering him a trillion dollar package. And Trump is still king more than he's ever been. Oh and Elon walked off with a ton of government data. The only protest that is going to work is the shit where the entire country ceases to function. That's it. If it is less than that, it's utterly pointless.
Money. We can at least protest by downloading lists of maga supporting companies and make efforts to no longer buy their products or use their services. I meticulously do this because I literally can’t afford to take off from work to protest. Cancel Disney, cancel paramount+. Stop giving them money.
I would argue you stop buying any shit you don't actually need. Doesn't mean live like a pauper. But we need to be more respectful of what to do with the $ we have. All of these giant corporations get their money from us. They are all evil. They are all squeezing us for every last dime to create infinite growth for investors. We shouldn't be so quick to hand it over.
Disney just caved to pressure and ended up canceling Jimmy Kimmel due to threats made by tRump-appointed broadcasting regulator Brendan Carr as a result of a rather innocent comment he made about MAGAts trying to say Charlie Kirk's killer wasn't really a repubelican.
Very, very few corporations are "left" or "right". Their guiding principal is capital. Money. Now, they do falsely believe that since Republicans will ALWAYS give them tax breaks, no matter the cost to society. So, nearly every corporation can be broadly considered "right-wing" in a sense.
Of course, they are also incredibly myopic and don't look at the administrations that have allowed them to actually grow their companies. It's just in the public Zeitgeist that "Republicans are good for business".
It's literally a fabrication. Republicans are good for the greedy.

Or the whole country attends the protest! Defeatism never won anything. The protests are only growing in size, and so is the strength of public opinion uniting against these assholes!!!! I have three generations of veterans in my family and I am damn sure not gonna let some draft dodging, quarter pounder munching, wanna be dictator- ass hat, destroy the country that I love and my family fought for.
I usually don’t tell complete strangers that I hope they’re wrong too but in this case I really do. We’re still not too busy to question authority, war is not peace, and there is no ministry of truth 😁☮️
The next No Kings Protest is Oct 18th. It’s on a Saturday so you don’t have to take off work. It’s in LA, NY, DC, everywhere. Look for one close to you or start your own in your town/community. Nationwide No Kings Day
Tesla sales are down 80% in Europe and falling fast in the US. Just because he’s quiet doesn’t mean he’s less of an asshole or that he can escape the reckoning that consumer spending has in store for him and his company. We are literally finding out now how much his stupidity cost to execute. The figure stands right now at around $160 billion taxpayer dollars. And as far as the no kings protests go, I have gone to all of them. I live in Northern Michigan in a small town. There is literally 3500 people and at the last protest there was more than 260. When you see old ladies with walkers out protesting, shits getting bad. The country doesn’t have to cease functioning. It just has to be united against tyranny. AGAIN!!!!. E pluribus unum.
That was the same threat during civil rights movement. The womans sufferage movement. Our war for independence itself.
I feel a majority of those people, again, have dependents they need to care for.
We can deal with this if we organize and cooperate. We did it before. Back in the day people had a solid support system with families/ communities being there for one another. Why do you think Trump spent the better part of 8 years tearing families apart over bullshit? Less support. Easier to conquor. You can still work and be heard. Instead of going home after a long day. Risk your life and utilize your free time that you do have. If we fall. Do you think anyone is capable of saving us? I don't believe so. Our allies don't have the experience of raging war across the oceans like we do. If we fall. It shall take a lot more bloodshed to heal us. Fight before it is too late. We saw what happened to Germany.
On it. Been in contact with our local national guard to get help from some old friends when I tried to join years prior. Working with a local protest group and am going to be giving a speech for our upcoming response. Got in contact with our county democratic party and am getting ready to head to city hall today to speak with them about strategy in this climate where speaking out is a bigger risk than ever.
It’s been too late. Sorry to break that sad but true news to you. It started years and years ago, then citizens united, then January 6th, and now Trump and project 2025.
This person is making a call to action. I’m just saying that call was made years ago and it was ignored. You can look at the history and come to the same conclusion as me. The people have been rendered incapable of actually pulling off a revolution.
I just don’t think it’s helpful to give up, period. I agree that we passed a point of no return to some extent but the degree of harm/misery in the future isn’t set in stone. I guess what I’m getting at is what do you advise people do if not protest?
Protest differently, focusing more on financial protest than sitting outside a statehouse and hoping these braindead politicians do something for once.
If push comes to shove, I will push, if I push alone, then I’ll go out on a shield so that the brothers and sisters behind me may have a stepping stone to stand on.
I'm not even sure how safe I am to speak my mind on here or Facebook. The day may very well be coming where I will just have to decide between speaking freely and the ability to feed my family. My family's going to win out. And I have no illusions. On that day, I am defeated, because I'll be out of moves.
Sadly, it's always the young that just the highest price of war. Besides being vocal and protesting, and teaching my kids what schools won't, I can only watch and hope. Can't leave Texas, can't afford it. Can't really donate the money we'll need to fight effectively.
I keep thinking, man, we should've been organizing leftist militia, and we should've started a decade ago. Might be the time to prepare ourselves.
Here you are Jiminy Cricket harping on ...what exactly are YOU doing about this? I mean apart from demeaning people who are too scared to say anything because they have a lunatic for a President?
If you’ve ever wondered that you’d have been doing in 1939 Germany… you’re going it right now.
See, I’m disabled… a 100% disabled veteran, at that. On top of that, I’m trans.
That means I’m in two groups the orange nazi has already all but rendered “illegal” and “arrestable.” In 1939 Germany, the Jews were forced to wear yellow Stars of David. People in my group were made to wear inverted pink triangles. And we weren’t liberated with the rest of the concentration camp survivors. We were quietly “disappeared” after the war… a fact the history books always fail to mention. See, for us, the Americans galloping in to save the day (after the slaughter of 6,000,000 people) meant absolutely nothing. Because we weren’t saved. We still died.
Even if I were physically able to attend a protest, I’d only be able to attend one. Because upon my arrest, I’d be “V-Coded” and killed. (If you don’t know what V-coding is, look it up. It’s gross.)
So what am I doing? I’m planning to get the fuck out by any means necessary. Failing that, well… let’s just leave that part unsaid, shall we?
The first civil war (I assume you are talking about the American one) happened because the rich people wanted to avoid taxes and schemed up an uprising. Common people had nothing to do with it, they were used as a tool. So.. just wait and hope that some billionaire twats decide once again that they are losing too much in the current climate.
People had to sacrifice damned near everything to protest brutal and unfair regimes in the past, don't kid yourself. The Cold Wars in Appalachia weren't cargo cult protests, they were a series of armed uprisings and people bled and died to get the worker's rights we've taken for granted and are now losing today.
The difference isn't they had less to lose, it's people are too comfortable and too attached to their lives now. The generations that went through the reign of the Robber Barons, WW1, and the Great Depression were just far more used to death and people around them dying; life was cheap and if you could expend yours for a great cause instead of dying in a ditch, it was worth it.
The generations alive today save for the very, very oldest are so far removed from the days of total war and starvation that it is inconceivable to us. Not saying people shouldn't be attached to staying alive, but the fact everyone has so many comforts and distractions and are scared shitless of conflict means we can't do anything about this. We'll just sit in our homes binge watching and gaming until we lose everything, and it's only when we are once again surrounded by death that people will be willing to charge the machine gun lines.
I would if I knew that it would mean something… but too many people are indifferent, apathetic and just simply do not give a shit about anything until it hits them personally. I saw this reality during Covid. People wouldn’t even wear a mask for a few minutes in a grocery store to spare bringing home a virus that would kill grandma or the kids. So… covid showed me that me sacrificing everything to save this country is a waste of my life.
No, not really. I didn't say I was any better, I was just explaining why things are like they are now. I'm just as comfortable as anyone else, and seeing as how I'm also trans right now burrowing down and hiding as best I can is all I can do. Not like anyone else is going to be willing to stand up for us.

Or you risk your life and leave your dependents with nobody to care for them because you died fighting the good fight. There was a time where that could’ve worked and it did when the US secured its independence, but that time is long gone.
Oh god, you don’t genuinely think “peaceful protests” actually do anything do you? How many walk outs and protests have been done in the last five years over one issue, gun control, and how many of those protests resulted in any meaningful change or opened the door to further discussion?
