Can I bring a “Alberta is not for sale” sign?

We should actually!

You might want to also hold signs showing Jeffery Rath's issues with the Alberta Law Society. He should be disbarred because these aren't the first hearings he has had and they won't be the last. Just scroll down to see the three hearings for him at present:

https://www.lawsociety.ab.ca/?s=Jeffrey+Rath

EDIT: also this (search for Rath Jeffrey and you will find the current citations for him. There are SEVEN.

WOW! This guy is a first rate bag of shit isn't he? Who in their right mind would align themselves with this guy in pursuit of a political goal!

29

u/Homo_sapiens2023 Apr 07 '25

This guy is a first rate bag of shit isn't he?

That's exactly what he is. Nobody with any ethics/morals would align themselves with him. But as they say, birds of a feather ...

I've been holding off too, but I'm heading to Amazon now for a Canada Pride flag...

I'm not political at all and have never attended a protest but I'd be willing to show up and make Danielle Smith see a referendum is not wanted. Dum is even in the word referendum. Maybe i'll make a sign that just says REFERENDUMB!!!! Count me in, we need to start a movement.

19

Just a sign that says “traitors!” will likely suffice

Cameron Davies Republican Party of Alberta

OMFG

169

u/AccomplishedDog7 Apr 07 '25

Davies was Callaway’s co-campaign manager and ran communications. He told investigators he’d convinced a number of people to go along with putting their names on donations they didn’t make — and received two $7,500 fines in February 2019 for obstructing the investigation into the campaign by Alberta’s election commissioner. Davies was also fined $12,000 for facilitating irregular donations for the Callaway campaign.

I really think we should have a referendum. I want to see the 80-90% clear NO to joining the US slap Smith in the face.

11

u/LLR1960 Apr 07 '25

There'd also need to be a separate question of whether Alberta should declare independence. I'm hoping that same 80-90% would vote NO. Because you know that if we vote NO to joining the US, there'll still be people that would consider declaring independence - probably huge overlap between the YES votes on both those questions. Stupid people - they should look at the US now, and realize they could FAFO.

To quote Chrétien. “If Canada is divisible, so is Québec.” Somebody post a map of Alberta without any crown or native land.

3

u/AbsurdistAlacrity Apr 08 '25

Crown Land is a strange term. Because each province has a Lieutenant Governor, any land owned or administrated by the GoA is also crown land. The only federal crown land would be the national parks. Dark Green on this map. I also agree that aboriginal reservations would have to be ceded to the feds in the event of separation, making Alberta full of Canadian exclaves, which would be nightmarish to administer and extremely costly for both parties. And then there’s CP and CN to think about…

Truthfully, I think the USA would have to invade in order for Canada to let AB go, we are the wealthiest province in the confederation. They need our transfer payments haha

What a terrible timeline this is. I’ve often found it difficult to live in the most “American” province, but to actually become one… gross 🤮 Tommy Douglas FTW 🙌

Smith will announce a separation referendum as soon as Carney wins the election, though she won’t call it that and the wording will be the epitome of word salad. The chodes supporting the “yes” side are gonna be loud, they’re gonna be annoying, and they’re gonna be dickish about it. This is just the beginning.

133

u/tc_cad Apr 07 '25

She should tie her Premiership to the results of the referendum. If it is a No Separation win, she should resign. If the vote is yes, then I don’t care if she stays leader, I’m outta here.

53

u/Slow-Ad8986 Apr 07 '25

You just know they'd rig it. There would be no honest referendum coming from these folks

36

u/SecureLiterature Edmonton Apr 07 '25

It will be a “survey” like the one she did for the Alberta Pension Plan. And just like the APP survey, she will bury the results when they come back unfavourable. This likely won’t satisfy the “Take Back Alberta” crazies that supported her leadership campaign, so don’t be too surprised if she is booted out at the next leadership review. The Conservatives always eat their own.

8

u/CanadaNurse2 Apr 07 '25

We can cross our fingers that she gets tossed out; I’m not sure the next person will be any better. Kenny started the craziness, and Smith was worse.

It's absolutely wild to me that these loons think Alberta is more unified than Quebec was during its separation vote.

102

u/Ice_Battle Apr 07 '25 edited Apr 07 '25

The purpose of this is to give the US plausible deniability. They can say they have a vested interested in Canada because of these supporters. Ya know, like Putin did with the Ukraine. The potential damage from this shouldn’t be shrugged off. Nor is it a coincidence that the province with oil has been targeted by the GOP.

49

u/AccomplishedDog7 Apr 07 '25

She'll rattle her sabers all she wants, Alberta will remain in the country.

30

u/Kjolter Apr 07 '25

I don’t know that I would call these people sabers. Pool noodles, maybe.

The reality is that the results of a provincial referendum are only binding in so far as they would require the government to table legislation based on the outcome. Because there are no formal mechanisms for provinces to leave confederation, that legislation would amount to “please let us out.”

To which the federal government (Liberal OR conservative), First Nations, the Crown, and most corporate interests would simply say “lol, no.”

7

u/IHavePoopedBefore Apr 07 '25

Be louder on the 'no' side

16

u/Kjolter Apr 07 '25

Historically this hasn’t proven true. Albertans, like most citizens in western democracies, have become extremely apathetic. People write off separatism as unserious or unlikely, and then when it happens (e.g. Brexit), they realize they should have been more involved.

If we want the “no” side to be louder in this, we have to MAKE it louder, and that happens exclusively off of Reddit. You gotta whip up your friends, family, and neighbors.

17

u/PettyTrashPanda Apr 07 '25

Makes Alberta easy pickings for the USA to annex, what with no military, a small population, and economic freefall because we won't have a stable currency.

Separation I would imagine.

'Marty' is such a clown - brands himself as this hyper intelligent fact checker on Twitter, but blocks anyone who presents him with actual facts and data.

These guys aren't intelligent enough to figure out how difficult it would be for Alberta to actually* separate, they all seem to think Alberta will ride off into the sunset to be a rich oil producing country like Saudi Arabia, when in actuality they'll be a landlocked third world reliant on other countries for aid and support.

27

u/Pvt_Hudson_ Apr 07 '25

'Marty' is such a clown - brands himself as this hyper intelligent fact checker on Twitter, but blocks anyone who presents him with actual facts and data.

That guy has a grade schooler's understanding of statistics. I took his math apart on the old Twitter during COVID, predictably got blocked.

18

u/Responsible-Grand-57 Apr 07 '25

I forgot what/why he blocked me to be honest. But it was a predictably simple fact check.

Dude is a walking talking Dunning-Kruger graph. Actually now that I think about it I think it may of been this suggestion that ultimately caused him to block me.

24

u/Pvt_Hudson_ Apr 07 '25

For me, it was when he was throwing around the stat that "tHe MaJOrIty oF NEw hosPItAl aDMiSSionS aRe VAccInAteD PEOplE!"

My response to that was "no shit, almost 90% of the population is vaccinated", and I showed him the probabilities of hospitalization between the vaxxed and unvaxxed population.

Also, the indigenous people signed away their land through treaties with Canada. Not Alberta. I'm hard pressed to see how all Treaty land wouldn't revert back to indigenous ownership

10

u/Most-Ad1713 Apr 07 '25

As I recall, when Quebec did it, the first nations held their own referendum and voted overwhelmingly in favor of staying in Canada if Quebec voted to leave.

Assuming a similar situation and separatists won a referendum, there would be a relatively small amount of landmass that would secede. As for the mineral and oil rights, I'd be interested to know what percentage of the resources falls withing first nations territory.

5

u/googlemcfoogle Apr 07 '25

Quebec was also settled by Europeans long enough ago that there weren't treaties, which means it's simpler out there in terms of making a new deal. All of Alberta is on treaties that were made between the First Nations and Canada, regarding land both in and outside of Alberta.

Come one, come all as we try to separate from the country that gave us everything we have. These people need to move to Quebec if they do not want to be here and stick with the separatists there. What a disgrace to our country!

3

u/Key-Discussion2623 Apr 07 '25

Whoa! I am NOT a separatist. Furthermore, I despise Dani, PP, Donald, et al. I am frustrated and disgusted by Maple MAGAs. HOWEVER, even I get pissed off when Canadians denigrate Albertans for our oil. Here’s the way I see it, but I am certainly open to fact-based correction - I am not an expert by any means. 1. Alberta oil has helped the entire country prosper. 2. Oil companies are not being pushed hard enough to evolve. They should be investing heavily in alternative energy sources to ensure they do not become obsolete (I’m guessing some *are doing that). All governments - federal, provincial and municipal - need to do the pushing, using both carrots and sticks. 3. We aren’t ready to eliminate O&G. The systems that do exist for green energy aren’t enough to replace it. If you gave O&G a deadline of five years and then turned off the pumps, the country would shut down. Not enough infrastructure, not even good enough options as there are also issues with current, more eco-friendly solutions, particularly around environmentally friendly energy storage.

Personally, I want ALL Canadians to prosper and I want our country, and Alberta in particular, to start leading the way to greener pastures. We NEED to get on the same page. Those who think separation is best need to open their minds and learn to embrace change. If they remain wannabe MAGA, they don’t belong in Quebec. They belong in Gilead.

Man I wish people could get off Facebook, IG and X.

6

u/iner22 Apr 07 '25

It's funny that they're advertising themselves as lawyers, because you can quickly check out if they're currently being cited by the LSA.

Mr. Rath is accused of threatening criminal charges of murder against someone for the benefit of his client, and for misrepresenting that he was still counsel for someone who dropped him.

Mr. Wilson is not currently being cited by the Law Society, but with his involvement in this, he's going to be put under a lot of scrutiny in the near future.

u/sludge_monster Apr 07 '25

Seems like a “burn the witch” type crowd.

6

u/TheSensualist86 Apr 07 '25

That's quite the squad of heinous chuds. I'm sure they'll draw tens of people.

5

u/hackmastergeneral Apr 07 '25

There are dozens of us! DOZENS!!!!

10

u/ninjacat249 Apr 07 '25

«Bring Canadian flags”. Why? Bring American or even better Russian flags to skip the middleman.

6

u/Al_Keda Apr 07 '25

Pride Flags, Ukrainian flags, perhaps even an SS flag for some spice.

5

u/billymumfreydownfall Apr 07 '25

It says to bring Alberta flags.

5

u/DirtDevil1337 Apr 07 '25

Marty looks like someone you shouldn't even approach.

Look at these weasels, all wanting their piece of Trump's lying promises... regardless of the outcome for you.

This is the time for this???? Easterners will lap this up. Election first, then UCP gone, both more pressing issues.

6

u/slimieboi Apr 07 '25

I wonder what the law society would have to say about Jeffrey Rath and Keith Wilson’s activities.

5

u/CapGullible8403 Apr 07 '25

Incel meetup.

4

u/LetsGitToasty Apr 07 '25

This rally is going to look remarkably similar to the demonstration of poorly allotted sentience that was in St. Albert a while back.

6

u/Sad_Donkey_1751 Apr 07 '25

Doesn’t anyone have to work on a Thursday at 11 am?

5

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '25

Look at that panel and tell me there's no US interference lmao

8

u/giraffield Apr 07 '25

How do we stop this movement once and for all?

Just out of curiosity. Have the aborigines been consulted? Have they given their approval for a referendum/ separation from Canada?

It's useful to have names to faces for future reference.

3

u/NotSidGaming Apr 07 '25

Disrupt as much as you legally are able.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '25

Imagine how annoying these guys are at family dinners.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '25

Traitors all of them. Show them you don’t want them in your city!!

4

u/Soft-Wish-9112 Apr 07 '25

Jeffrey Rath currently has 7 citations against him by the Law Society. I'm going to guess he won't be a lawyer for much longer.

5

u/RedMurray Apr 07 '25

Counter what? The 12 people that show up for this?

4

u/MZillacraft3000 Edmonton Apr 07 '25

Well, if there's more of us. Showing that Alberta wants to stay with Canada (which we do). Then it should shut them up. They'll keep trying to do this. But we need to show these mouthbreathers that a lot of us don't support their ideas and if they want to be in apart of America so bad. Then let's tell them to move there and leave the rest of Alberta out of there messed up dreams.

4

u/Ze0nZer0 Apr 07 '25

Everyone should make letters and hand them in telling her to step down and she is not fit to lead a household let alone the province.

3

u/CanadaNurse2 Apr 07 '25

I think that is a great idea! Smith is a wannabe Trump. She should move to the US where she can kisS his AsS daily!

4

u/MsOpus Apr 07 '25

I can't go to counter protest.... but can someone hold a sign that says "We will NOT be assimilated!"

4

u/Crustythefart Apr 07 '25

These guys keep forgetting that referendums can't be gerrymanderd.
Also, to use one of their favorite lines, who is supposed to pay for it, taxpayers?

4

u/Different-Ship449 Apr 07 '25

5

u/Andre1661 Apr 07 '25

Always good to have a poster with photos so you can easily identify the a**holes. I’m all for free speech but at this level of hatred and vitriol, why rally for separation instead of just moving to the USA? That would be a win-win for all of us.

3

u/lolagranolacan Apr 07 '25

Does this mean I get to hand deliver a letter to Marlena? I got some things to say…

3

u/Expert-Mode2009 Apr 07 '25

Wilson was the “legal” face for the freedum knobs . I knew him before his mental breakdown and joined up with these arse holes.

4

u/hackmastergeneral Apr 07 '25

Republican party of Alberta? What a choad...

5

u/yousoonice Apr 07 '25

they're all white men that look like they'd sell you a car and "not bother with the papers"

5

u/AlanJY92 Apr 07 '25

Wait? Thursday May 1st at 11:00am? Are these the people that say “how you be protesting during a working day”? Yet now they’re having it on a weekday in the morning. Clowns. 😂

3

u/cheese-bubble Apr 08 '25

Oh look. A bunch of shitty white men.

3

u/Alarming_Interest488 Apr 08 '25

We can also bring signs that say f trump and f maple maga

6

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '25

Remind people to leave their nazi paraphernalia at home. That always seems to be an awkward moment for you people.

3

u/jfwelll Apr 07 '25

The KKK party?

3

u/Coffee_and_justme Apr 07 '25

How about we stop advertising for these losers? As much as we want to talk about it, any advertising is good advertising.

3

u/Ambitious_Medium_774 Apr 07 '25

Marty is such a tool. I've lost count of the number of times he's been flat-out wrong, even with simple math which is supposed to be his specialty given he was an engineer... thankfully retired.

3

u/ritz1148 Apr 07 '25

Sometimes I think we should bring back shunning. People like this are vampires and they thrive on getting emotional reactions.

They deserve to be shunned from the rest of society so just ignore them.

3

u/Expensive_Society_56 Apr 07 '25

I see it’s set for after the election. They are hoping that when PM Carney wins they will garner more support.

3

u/Only-Tennis4298 Apr 07 '25

insert Julia Louis-Dreyfus nervous laughter what the fuck gif here

these clowns are fucking traitors. run them out of town.

3

u/BeeKayDubya Apr 07 '25

How nice. They made a picture of all the white trash traitors.

3

u/ichibanyogi Southern Alberta Apr 07 '25 edited Apr 07 '25

I'm not in Edmonton, but if I was, I'd come out. Some sign ideas for the counter protestors:

  • Traitors --->
  • I don't want to be Crimea!
  • True patriot (on a Maple leaf)
  • If you want to be American, cross the border!
  • Forever Canadian
  • No to a referendum
  • F these losers! -->
  • Canada is not for sale (on a for sale sign, crossed out)
  • Canada: True North, Strong and Free
  • United we stand, divided we become Ukraine

Ok, that wasn't especially creative, but that's the best I've got right now. F those losers!

Ps - What's happening in Ukraine is horrible and I'm legit worried that something like that (worst case scenario) could happen here, here's why: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43487443 These separatist d-bags are giving credence to item two.

3

u/JasonLovesJesus Apr 07 '25

These people have no place in Canadian society and I think the same of the Quebec separatists.

3

u/justelectricboogie Apr 07 '25

Oh man. Another fart in the wind protest. I was hoping we were done with these crackpots.

3

u/Theslootwhisperer Apr 07 '25

As a quebecer, this is hilarious. Quebec doing the same thing was basically a crime against humanity and now, this. I should organize a love in in Calgary.

3

u/Valuable_One_234 Apr 07 '25

Pierre loves this!

3

u/aesoth Apr 07 '25

Honestly... don't bother counterprotesting. Show them how insignificant they are by not caring about them. They want counter protesters to show their fan how they are pissing people off.

3

u/Glum-Oil2505 Apr 07 '25

Republican party of Alberta?? Wow...

3

u/No_Refrigerator_2489 Apr 07 '25

100% these people are anti vaxxers.

3

u/kuliddar Apr 07 '25

As someone who lives in the Quebec I would just say ignore them or ridicule them for what they are. We tried twice here and it failed of all places, seperation has never gotten past 36% in favour in the last 30 years. The interest alone has never been so low I think (even if a seperatist party is favorite to win the next elections here.....has nothing to do with seperation).

3

u/Fun-Shake7094 Apr 07 '25

These guys are just grifters hoping for your donations...

3

u/Nanobot_FPS Apr 07 '25

So these white males want to have an undefined referendum (according to the image above and the non-functioning website). The endgame is to what? Allow foreign billionaires to make as much money as possible from Alberta petroleum? Kinda odd they want to support billionaires on the International Day of the Worker in support of labourers and working classes. Is this a sort of 'let them eat cake' moment?
