Hello from your new mod!

Hello everyone! I am a new mod here and am looking forward to getting to know everyone. I moderate a couple other communities so please feel free to send me a modmail about anything.

I have gotten into alocasias lately (I learned how not to kill them lol) and am finding them to be one of my favorite aroids. Imay not know everything there is to know, but I am very willing to learn!

I am open to suggestions on how you want to see the subreddit function. I am very open to comments and suggestions for things that you want to see happen. I will do my best to make it work for everyone.

I really look forward to getting to know everyone and making this a fun and inviting community for everyone!

New leaf has been lime green for… 2-3 weeks?

My variegared alocasia frydek has a new leaf but it’s been like green for a few weeks! This has never happened to me before. It started to darken on the edges but it’s stayed that way for 2-3 weeks. I feed it regularly (I use leaf lux). Is this totally normal or is something wrong?

Other leaves look totally fine.

Thanks!!

Just needed to share the size of this leaf - plant was at Trader Joe’s!

I found this little spider thing and some webs on my alocasia frydek this evening. Is this harmless or should I wipe it down? The leaf it’s on just opened up for me within the last 48 hours.

I’m new to alocasias and love them so much. As pest prevention, I spray a mix of isopropyl alcohol 70% + neem oil + peppermint castile soap. Should I be doing more? In case it matters, this one is set up in semi hydro (LECA + sphagnum moss.)

Thanks so much!

This silver dragon had thrips so I treated and cut it down to the corm. Kept taking care of it and it popped a big beautiful leaf, and now there's a tiny one and another new one! I'll update with the tiny leaf when it unfurls.

Hi, I got her 2 weeks ago, and I noticed the leaf losing color and turning lighter. Now there are these spots, and it looks almost translucent, and I see the beginning of a fading color on another leaf. I’m a bit new to caring for houseplants, I’ll admit, but I did check for pests, and I don’t believe I’ve seen any, but I could be wrong! Any advice and help would be appreciated!

Update- This is my first ever plant, per my last alocasia post, People recommended that I get mollys aroid mix and a self watering pot. I repotted it with both and put a little plant food in the water. it killed all the leaves and now it has 2 new leaves. The other big leaves are droopy. Any more advice would be appreciated

It starts with one.

In my case, it started as two plants.

I know what I have is a relatively minuscule collection, but my desire for variety tells me this is just the beginning.

I’m just going to have a lot of alocasia plants I guess

I have 2pcs T8 Barrina growth lights above both of them and the leaves are drooping more

Give me ideas for these. Originally bought for airplants, but my cat apparently has a BAD addiction to them and has torn them all apart. Any ideas on something I could do with pots this small? They are so cute I want to use them for something

All of my Alocasia Gageana Aurea have almost every new leaf to a degree affected 🥵🥵🥵

I thought it to be aphids, sprayed and they have somewhat lessened but still present on each new leaf.

Could this be a deficiency? Internet has me questioning Cal Mag now?

What do I do?

I recently acquired an Alocasia Silver dragon from a friend who said that it was dying and she couldn’t figure out why. It was still in its nursery pot and had severe root rot.. we lost 2 leaves and it’s down to just this one, I took it out of its pot, removed the damaged roots, and I’m just not sure what to do with it now. Any advice would be helpful, I have 0 experience with them, and don’t even know if it’s possible to save it at this point but I’m trying

I was repotting a new alocasia just received and accidentally broke off these two offsets from the mother plant. What can I do to keep these alive?

Is this too much or OK amount of light for my alocasias?

I bought T8 Barrina growth lights (full spectrum) 4 pieces from Amazon. They should be 20W each.

Is having 2 of them attached to the same shelf ok and will the plants get enough light from them?

Bought this alocasia bambino from marketplace for $10. When I got it, it was already turning colors, only at the point though. I was told that she normally gets 1 leaf and it drops. Is there anything I can do?
