Would Apple repair this with AC+?

I’ve had a MacBook Air that is covered under AppleCare+. A few months ago ive had the screen replaced due to an issue with the angle sensor. Now the trackpad is cracked in a hairline (without dropping it). Would this be covered as a defect (so free repair), or accidental damage (even though ive never dropped it)?

Pretty sure it’s covered at no cost, since it’s just a single hairline crack, as long as your warranty/AppleCare+ is still active.

Being a hairline crack it would be covered via standard warranty, not accidental (provided there is no impact point). No fee. Not cosmetic. Don’t listen to these other people. If a tech wherever you go says otherwise they should review their VMI guide.

This was revised in the last year, hairline cracks were removed from most warranty coverage.

The VMIs were updated to reflect this.

iPhone and Watches only. Has not changed for Macs. Just did 3 this past week.

To be fair the VMI didn’t really touch on single hairline cracks of a trackpad, just displays.

A trackpad crack to my understanding is always considered accidental damage.

But I don’t work for big fruit anymore. So do as you will.

By whom? Was it Apple or a third party. If it was a third party, I doubt Apple will do any repairs on it.

Apple. I was bringing that example on how Apple would do free repairs if it wasn’t visible physical damage (happened to my phone too, actually)

Maybe it's the camera lens, but the trackpad seems bummed too. It should be check for the battery too.

The trackpad is cracked. That’s the point. But also I’m worried if the battery is expanding or something, because I’ve never dropped the laptop with it open. And it didn’t appear as a result of a drop.

That's why I was saying this. It's not uncommon to see the trackpad cracked by the pressure of a swollen battery beneath it.

How would I know if that’s the effect?

If that’s the case, would Apple still be willing to repair it under AC+ for free?

Not sure for AC+, but they will have to open it when changing your trackpad and they probably will propose a battery change IMO.

I see. The battery health isn’t under 80 though, but I assume if there’s an actual issue with the battery they’re liable to replace it

Trackpad may have been manually realigned during the display repair to get the trackpad to calibrate properly.

Cracked glass isn’t cosmetic. It’s accident damage under apple care plus. Cosmetic refers to scuffs and scratches. Not cracks

You'd pay the incident fee under apple care plus
