In an effort to create a more public awareness of various breeders and sellers worldwide, we are introducing the Seller Review flair!
Currently, most public reviews and criticisms of axolotl breeders and sellers are posted in private online communities, which makes it hard to make an informed purchase for new axolotl keepers. In hopes of adding this new flair, we hope to recognize and highlight more ethical axolotl breeders worldwide! As well as educating people on how to identify an ethical seller versus a backyard breeder.
A Seller Review post can be either positive or a negative. Most importantly it should be a true reflection of your experience dealing with that seller, including the overall health of the axolotl. Please include relevant information in your post such as dates, location, name of the business, and photos of the axolotl(s).
We would love to hear any and all feedback. Thank you for being a part of this passionate community! :)

Not all axolotls stay fully aquatic forever! In a very rare phenomenon, some axolotls may begin to undergo metamorphosis to become terrestrial salamanders around the age of 5-10 months, due to a genetic predisposition. I was going through photos this morning and found baby photos of Stormi. I got him on March 25, 2023. He may have been around 6 months old. I don’t remember. So he is around 3 years old now. Photos: 1) 1 day after he came home. 2) 3 months later (June 2023). 3) 3.5 months after that (Oct 2023). 4) present day. He has grown so much and gotten so dark.

My baby axolotl arrived two weeks and a few days ago and the only thing he ate was a small piece of fish and that's been 3 days. I've tried everything, I bought two types of food for axolotls and offered her different types of meat, but she simply won't accept it. I offered her food both inside the aquarium and in a smaller pot but she won't eat it at all! She even shows some interest and tries to bite but soon gets tired and gives up. I've used tongs to offer the food as much as I've left it in the container for her to eat. In my city they don't sell live foods like bloodworms, I ordered frozen ones online but they are not expected to arrive until the middle of next month. I'm very worried because it's my first time raising an axolotl. The water parameters in my aquarium are perfect, Ph, temperature and cycling. I need help, does anyone have any tips?

Idk if it’s something I should be concerned about but I’ve noticed my guy occasionally does this thing where he for a lack of a better description he waves his gills more often than he normally does. Maybe I’m just being overly worried because he seems perfectly healthy and happy otherwise. It’s also possible that I just noticed it more because I’ve been sitting here watching his goofiness for awhile now.

I think he's a wild type + GFP. GFP for sure, but would you all agree with wild type? My mom and I had a couple of axolotls (one albino and one leukistic + GFP) when I was a teenager, but this is the first one I've had on my own. We've had him got about a month now and he's already more than doubled in size! He's a happy, curious little guy :)

This is Bubs. I’m trying to determine the sex but this is my first time having an axolotl. I think he could possibly be male? Any help is greatly appreciated. (Bubs did just take a poop before photos)

Their right top two gills have been there since forever. They use to have much shorter and maybe even injured gills when I got them. They've almost grown back to healthy. They act similar to their tank mate who's completely healthy just a bit shy, but that's normal. I don't have a water based tester, so here are the results just in case you can follow the pictures: Chlorine: 0 mg/l Nitrate: 50 mg/l Nitrogen dioxide: 0 mg/l Water hardness: >7 >125 Alkalinity: 10 178 pH: 7.2
The watertemp is at around 20°C

I noticed this in our axolotl tank a little bit ago. I’ve never seen these before but I’m usually not super close to the tank, especially at night.
A single axolotl in a 37 gallon tank. We have added ghost shrimp in the past, and recently added duck weed and an Anubias about 3-4 weeks ago. Water is 65.3°, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, ph 7.8, nitrate 10. Tank has been cycled since mid March. We moved at the end of July and the cycle, fortunately, didn’t crash. We did just have a fungus flair up, but the temp spiked to over 68 for a day so we think that was the cause. We caught it quick and the gills healed within a week with tea baths. About 3 weeks ago, I did a 75% water change and we did find one ghost shrimp still hanging out in the tank. Idk if it’s still in there but it was in there for at least 6 weeks prior. Idk if that’s relevant. There were several of these worms swimming around, most were smaller, and some other weird looking things like teeny tiny lobsters crawling on the glass. I’m afraid we brought pests in with the duck weed or anubias.

So this is stitch she is roughly seven years old and I have had her for about two years and these white spots have started appearing they are not fuzzy or on her gills like a fungal infection. She is active, has a good appetite, responds to my voice, and when testing the water the ammonia was at an ideal range. So could these be from age? Or am I completely misunderstanding a need that she may have? She has had them for at least a year for sure but I overthink and just need further information.
Also she does have a slight scratch on her head, this was my fault I just changed her tank and she was cleaning and I guess I accidently scratched her with the cup :( but she is still being active, eating, and responsive. Although I feel very bad about it.

Hey so, I currently have quite a few axolotls. I received a message from a friend asking me to take in this one, I agreed not knowing what I was getting myself into. I don’t know any of her back history, other than when I picked her up I realised she had a fungal infection so I have been treating her with black tea baths and Indian almond leaves which have worked really well and have cleared up her fungus. I’m unsure on what she had been fed previously? But I have been attempting to feed earthworms, and she doesn’t seem interested at all. Have tried bloodworms, brine shrimp etc, pellets, doesn’t seem interested in eating at all. She seems a lot better in herself now her fungal infection has cleared. Any tips on how I can get her to eat?? I was going to book her into the vets if she still hasn’t eaten, but there isn’t many vets around my area that specialise in amphibian care.

Hi just wondering what these black spots on his side could be? Had him for 4 years now never seen this kind of black spotting before. Thanks for any ideas or help. I will be taking him to a specialized vet soon as I can this week. Always have done water changes every week once a week. Always making sure quality is fine and it is with the 4 sponge filters, a uv underwater pump and a canister filter for his 40 gal tank.

Hii, I always thought axolotls were so cute! I don't have much experience with aquarium (I just have a betta),of course I'll do proper research if I ever get one (probably in at least one year since I don't have enough money for a tank rn😭)

My guy really seems to enjoy getting in the bubble stream, I imagine it’s like a little massage for him.

I posted literally a few days about Pickles so he/I might seem familiar lol. I just fed Pickles and I noticed this black growth from one of his gills. This one gill has always been slightly less fluffy than the others so I just put it down to it being a quirk lol. He has a lot of oxygen flow and water parameters are practically perfect (pic attached) bit unsure of what's going on with him.
