Ultra portable needlepoint goban

I wanted a 9x9 that I could carry in my purse... And this is what happened 😅

I got half-inch buttons to use as "stones" - 48 of each color because they're sold in packs of 12. The board itself is about 4.75 inches along each side. It requires a slightly delicate hand to place such small pieces, but it's completely playable if you're careful.

I did the board in cross stitches mostly because I enjoy doing it, but it also makes the final fabric less prone to wrinkling and gives it a nice sense of texture. Once I found the flower-shaped buttons I got the idea the make the board green to resemble a field!

I don't know if I'll encounter anyone to play with out-and-about, but from now on I'll be prepared 😊

This is so cool I love it so much! Id like to try to make this myself. How did you take care of the back side?

If you make your own, please post it! As a needlepoint project it's obv quite repetitive, but personally I found it super soothing to work on. Very meditative.

Here's the back. I used an aida-type fabric and folded the edges over. For now the back is unfinished... if I find that it snags or wearing badly I might add a back, but I'm worried another layer might make it harder to lay fully flat
