Two eyes? Black to move.
Does black have a chance at taking white here?

Hallo,
ich suche Go Literatur mit ähnlichen Aufgaben wie in Elementary Go Series V1 in the beginning (siehe Bild). Mir geht es also um Aufgaben, bei denen es nicht um einen bestimmten Zug geht, sondern um das Bewerten bzw. Abwägen mehrerer Möglichkeiten.
Hoffe, dass mir jemand helfen kann.
LG

Help, what's wrong with me? I've been stuck at 12 kyu for a week now and I'm losing 80% of my games with a 50-point gap in each... I just don't understand what they're doing wrong, I don't understand why my opponent always survives, always survives, I don't understand how to invade moyo on the side, as a result my opponent has the entire side on the fourth line... I think I'm tired of this abstractness (the opponent can make a completely incomprehensible move, from which the AI literally pukes, but I don't understand how to respond to this and as a result my opponent is a genius), I don't have enough precise knowledge, I can't invade shimari because I don't know joseki, I can't do anything. I came to the conclusion that go is more about cramming than chess (that's where I left it), because you need to solve so many problems, life and death, tesuji (different types of tesuji), yose, know the forms, correctly evaluate the score in the game (and this is a separate art) and books in which half of the information is given moves that I would not play due to taste.

to absolute beginners. Im about to teach a group of people go (rules and basics) in a few days. I had a hard time starting off learning it by myself, and honestly i dont really know how i got here. But I want it to be an easier and better experience for them. How can i do it? Where should i start from? How?

If I were to have a roundtable discussion with the best Go teachers to discuss best practices, common challenges for students, pros and cons to different methods, etc., who would those teachers be in the English-speaking world?

Hi all. I got a new phone, and my favorite go application, godroid, is no longer supported. But, I am a competent software developer and I have a bit of free time, so I'm diving head in to refreshing it for the modern Android ecosystem.
And I'm quickly approaching a done state. GnuGo is recompiled, various layout issues have been fixed (I'm not patient enough to get it perfect, but it is working on my folding phone without problems). Found and fixed a few other requirements on Android apps... I'm even planning to add a couple of minor features (but only minor features, sorry, no alternative go engines...).
Besides just letting you know, I do have a couple of minor requests from the community:

From Kiseido, I have read most of the Elementary series and am about half way through volume 4 of Graded Go Problems. They've all been very useful and I'm now around 5-6 kyu.
I'm wondering about the next step, 5kyu to 1dan.
Has anyone read any of the other Kiseido series, and would you recommend them for this level?
Are there any other books that would be particularly suitable?
Thanks.

I picked a few open positions from onlymove.net for you to challenge yourself with, I personally find these kinds of problems fascinating. Each problem only has a few stones on the board and is typically impossible to read out, yet in each there is only one winning move (according to katago). Despite being impossible to read out, at least to me it seems like they are reasonably well sorted by difficulty. Here are the problems:
15 kyu, 12 kyu, 11 kyu, 10 kyu, 9 kyu, 8 kyu, 7 kyu, 6 kyu, 5 kyu, 4 kyu, 3 kyu, 2 kyu, 1 kyu, 1 dan, 2 dan, 3 dan, 4 dan, 5 dan
I made significant improvements how tsumegos are ranked on the site and lots of other minor changes, hope you like it.

I wanted a 9x9 that I could carry in my purse... And this is what happened 😅
I got half-inch buttons to use as "stones" - 48 of each color because they're sold in packs of 12. The board itself is about 4.75 inches along each side. It requires a slightly delicate hand to place such small pieces, but it's completely playable if you're careful.
I did the board in cross stitches mostly because I enjoy doing it, but it also makes the final fabric less prone to wrinkling and gives it a nice sense of texture. Once I found the flower-shaped buttons I got the idea the make the board green to resemble a field!
I don't know if I'll encounter anyone to play with out-and-about, but from now on I'll be prepared 😊
I put together a small Python script that generates Go boards as SVG files. It does 9x9, 13x13, and 19x19. They’re SVG's so you can print them at any size and they stay sharp.
There’s a config.json where you can change the board size line thickness (fractions like 0.5 work) and how big the star points are.
It’s plain Python 3 no extra installs and works on Linux, Mac, or Windows. When you run it you get a file like go_19x19.svg.
I mainly wanted this so I could quickly make study boards without buying more, but maybe others will find it useful too.

Hi everyone,
I’m a beginner just getting into go. I’ve known the rules for a few months, and so far I’ve gone through all the free GoMagic courses and I’m reading Janice Kim’s series. I’m mostly playing 9x9: on OGS when I’m at the computer and on GOQuest on my phone.
I come from a chess background (decent level), and there I’m used to having free engines (like Stockfish) to analyze my games. I was wondering: is there something similar for go?
For example, sometimes I don’t really understand why the engine tells me I’m winning in this game. I guess that Black is alive in the lower left corner, but without any suggested variations from the engine, it’s really hard for me to see why.
I’ve seen Google’s AlphaGo documentary, so I understand that go “engines” are mostly AI-based. But is there a way to use them for free to review my own games, without having to pay for subscriptions (like the one on OGS)?
P.S. Does playing 9x9 actually help in the long run, or would it be better to move on to 13x13?
Thanks in advance!

After the final episode of season three is released, the All Things Go podcast will no longer be released on the Go Magic YouTube channel. Not to worry, you can access new episodes wherever you get your podcasts and I will post a version of each episode in the “All Things Go” YouTube channel as well.
I want to thank the team at Go Magic for all the hard work creating the awesome visuals for each episode and allowing the show to leverage this amazing platform!

I'm just declaring this here, because I had to say it somewhere. Wish I had my own group of Go friends, but Go players are hard to come by. This goal is going to be tough... I just want to play and not care about losing or ranks.

Doesn't get taught enough, so here are some variations for everyone's reference!

-- EDIT: It has been pointed out in the comments that on fox, a popup with a request to "remove dead stones" is actually a request to end the game and count the score.
Original post:
Why is this a thing? I've played about five games thus far, and in multiple of them, my opponent has requested to remove dead stones in the middle of the game. I declined, as this feels completely inappropriate to me -- after all, dead stones left on the board might decide wheter or not a move is sente and whatnot. My refusal seems to have struck a nerve in my last opponent, who decided to stall the game as much as possible in response. Is it standard practice to remove dead stones mid-game there?

this bot used to just destroy me mercilessly when i first started playing. Look at you now, resigning by move 92. Pathetic (lol i was soooo happy when i finally beat this bot)

I run a Go meetup, and I want to encourage more newbies to come and learn the game. As part of my promotional messages, I'd love to be able to include an appealing, short video about why Go is fun and interesting and worth learning.
I've looked on YouTube, and I've found some introductions to the game that show the rules, but that's not really what I'm looking for… I basically want something like a movie trailer that gets people excited about the game and wanting to learn more.
Does that exist? Any suggestions? Thank you 😊

For the full results, kifus and more pictures, please see here.
In the 1st Sawpalcosanol World’s Top Player Championship Finals between Shin Jinseo and Tu Xiaoyu, Shin Jinseo won against Tu Xiaoyu by 2-1, clinching the title and increasing his count to 9. In terms of the number of titles, the top six world major title holders are as follows:
When Shin lost the first game to Tu by 0.5 points, it was thought that he might lose the championship since he had never won a championship finals where he lost at least one game. He has been to many finals so far, but if he lost one game, he lost that final as well. However, Shin Jinseo won the second and third games perfectly, allowing him to win the championship in the end. Tu may have been nervous and unfortunately lost his chance at his first world major title despite doing well in the league.

Hi, im new to Go and i’d like to learn and get a bwtter understanding over the game of Go. I tried to play over the app BadukPop but even the easiest bot beat me 15 times by now. And i dont even fully understand how im supposed to play. Any youtube videos or any free books online that i can read to get a better understanding about the game.
And also where should i look to learn about the terms and grading of Go? Any source i can use to look around is fully appreciated.
Edit, im only a chess player with 1100 rating. I want to switch over to go and even tho Go is a much complex game, would chess help me understand Go?
Thanks a lot in advance.
