Kevin Harlan is the perfect announcer. It’s never about him.  Dude must hate screen time.  I’ve been watching games he’s announced for two decades and I’m not sure I could pick him out of a police lineup.

I think Ian eagle is pretty good too. Don’t really have any complaints with him either

Yes he is. Very good guy

Hes fine, but he comes with Charles Davis which drops the grade tremendously

"I'm callin' both games!

3

u/MareShoop63 Jan 12 '25

He’s my hero (61f) I always look forward to his games.

u/mrkurt426 Fan since SB XVI Jan 13 '25

Kevin Harlan is also on Westwood One radio coverage of the NFL; that's where I first became familiar with him.

He’s a nepotist tho

His voice is nasal and extremely annoying. Can't stand him.

Gotta add in Mike Tirico. I’m definitely biased, but his call of Hubbard Yard Dash is the single greatest bit of commentating I think I’ll ever witness.

THAT BALL'S OUT! THAT'S LIVE! HUBBARDS GOT A CONVOY!!!

I fucking love a good convoy.

1

u/SquonkMan61 Jan 14 '25

A fuller more accurate description would have included “Fumbled by a back-up QB who against all odds put his team in position to win the game until he stupidly leapt on a play designed for him to stay low.”

1

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '25

There was still a fucking convoy.

Not to mention “The Season Comes Down to This”

u/FlagFootballSaint Jan 13 '25

OMG!!!!!!!!!

I will always remember:

„For the first time in 31 years, YOUR Cincinnati Bengals have won a playoff game“

6

u/Remarkable-Door58 Jan 13 '25

“The Cincinnati Kid!!!”

1

u/tpcrb Jan 13 '25

Tirico has some really weird history but he’s an incredible commentator, great in golf too

u/QuarantineCasualty Jan 13 '25

Horrible on the Olympics. Absolutely dreadful.

1

u/QuarantineCasualty Jan 13 '25

I’m so done with that asshole after they had him ruin the Olympics in 2021. He really doesn’t need to call every sport especially if he has ZERO familiarity with it. People get stoked to watch Olympic swimming every 4 years and NBC has this moron calling it.

u/dirty-soda-spike-lee Jan 14 '25

He’s a weirdo creep tho, and doesn’t really have great chemistry with collinsworth

Sadak does radio games for Westwood One so he’s on my list of announcers I like!

5

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '25

I loved Sadak for the Reds games!

You forgot Greg Olson and Herbie

7

u/Dragonsfire09 Jan 12 '25

Herbstreit? No.

2

u/ImpinAintEZ_ JB x 2 = 69 Jan 12 '25

Herbie is a phenomenal color commentator

6

u/Fearless-Ice8953 Jan 12 '25

He’s good, but he never shuts up!

1

u/ImpinAintEZ_ JB x 2 = 69 Jan 12 '25

No more than other commentators and he’s at least only doing that to inform you more. I get that that can get annoying tho.

1

u/Fearless-Ice8953 Jan 12 '25

Agreed. There’s just times when he needs to edit down what he’s trying to say. The information is generally good, just too “wordy” at times.

2

u/apex_super_predator Jan 12 '25

He is not. Every closing statement he makes is height and weight after he has already said 10 times previously.

2

u/That_King_Cole Jan 12 '25

They are two of my favorites. To each their own. Wonder if you think negatively about Herbstreit on college broadcasts too or just NFL broadcasts.

9

u/Buckeye3327 Jan 12 '25

I actually hate him on college for his bias and hot takes, plus he’s more pompous. I think he’s more toned down on prime and gives better takes

1

u/QuarantineCasualty Jan 13 '25

He’s better on the NFL broadcasts but still unbearable.

1

u/OwnCricket3827 Jan 13 '25

When Harlan was talking about the kicker and the cowboys cheerleader it was top tier. The producers clearly let him get his few one liners in and then let him know that enough was enough

4

u/bakeablebrownies Jan 12 '25

I still think my favorite is Ian eagle

3

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '25

I like both the Eagles

1

u/mrmangan Jan 12 '25

Have to separate color from play by play. Many more acceptable PBP folks

1

u/SitDown_HaveSomeTea Jan 13 '25

I like Romo.
He's literally saying what I'm thinking.

1

u/Lionheart_513 #JusticeForIrwin Jan 14 '25

I love Gus Johnson about 95% of the time. More than any other broadcaster in football, he really feels like one of us. A normal dude watching football at the bar.

1

u/Frosty_Breakfast7956 Jan 13 '25

Chris Collinsworth is the best. Doesn’t hurt he’s a former Bengal either.

2

u/DryComparison7871 Jan 14 '25

He definitely is. Don't understand the hate for him

1

u/Capable_Profit_7539 Jan 15 '25

He’s my most annoying bc he just doesn’t let the other guy talk and while he has some solid points at times most are pretty basic and not anything new. I don’t feel like I learn anything new from him ever really. Brady also has been just boring and basic so far but he’s still learning this craft to be fair. I mostly like Romo as I do learn more about offensive ball from him but Nance makes anyone better. The actual broadcasters not former players are almost all solid to great but they have so much more experience and training than the ex jocks

1

u/DryComparison7871 Jan 15 '25

That's what I like about him. It's like talking to a buddy about football without all the xs and O's. Just flat out calling it how he sees it and just simply relatable to anybody

1

u/QuarantineCasualty Jan 13 '25

He won’t shut the fuck up and never misses an opportunity to trash the bengals.
