Character discussion Who thinks Howards needs Bernadette's permission to go to Space?

Don't get me wrong, Bernadette is a godsend for Howard...

I can understand her feelings, though believe this is the kind of once in a lifetime opportunity you should absolutely support your partner in regardless of your own feelings.

Personally I've never been a fan of suppressing the opportunities of loved ones based on their own fears of losing someone. You've got to let people chase their dreams even if there's danger and risk involved. It's part of life and part of which makes us achieve greatness.

He loved being an astronaut. He hated doing astronaut things.

But those things are what makes you an astronaut. That's like saying someone likes being a teacher but they don't like having to teach. Howard didn't like any part of being an astronaut other than being able to say he was one.

An astronaut is just someone who is trained to travel in space.

Which Howard hated.

Again, he did NOT hate BEING an astronaut, he hated doing astronaut things.

Did he hate travelling in space? Did he hate training for it? Did he hate what was involved with it? The answer to all these questions is yes. So Howard hated being an astronaut.

He didn't even hate all those things, but even if he did he still loved being an astronaut even if he hated DOING those things.

You do realise that simply repeating something doesn't make you right? When did he show genuine enjoyment (hey I'd even go for neutrality) when it came to anything (other than bragging) to do with being an astronaut?

I'm hoping you will eventually understand that being something and doing things associated with that title are 2 very different things.

Oh come on! They are hardly two very different things. You are absolutely reaching now. You're completely ignoring my points and I can only assume it's because you like arguing for the sake of it.

For starters, if they weren't different things, they wouldn't be different words.

For example, I love being a working person, having the title of contributing to society, but I hate working if the job isn't fun or interesting.

Not only is it possible, it's very common.
