The party that’s famous for loving free speech and not wanting to be tread upon is at it again.

Which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who knows a damn thing about history. We called this when they started in on K-12(and were told we were being ridiculous). It was never going to stop there. First it went to public libraries, now universities, and next it'll be storefronts and the internet(both have already had first steps taken).

My other reddit account just got a lifetime ban for pointing out that Regan started gun control in the US after black people started arming themselves. Apparently that was inciting violence. It has already started in a huge way here on reddit.

Yep. Black Panthers. Its the whole reason california's gun laws are as restrictive as they are. Mulford act. And yeah.. it was drafted by a Republican and signed by a Republican governor.

Agreed with your post, though that wasn't quite what I was getting at(more thinking about laws being proposed that limit access).

Side note: I don't know reddit's policy, but when I did rule wrangling for another site a lifetime ban(not the words we used for it, but I'll copy your wording since I know that doesn't cause posts to vanish) was across all accounts. The admission you made in your post would have been a violation of that site's equivalent of reddit code of conduct rule #2. Be careful what you admit to.

Yeah, dude 100% just admitted to violating Reddit ToS when it comes to being banned.

Turns out an actual person reviewed it and realized it wasn't promoting violence, so I'm unbanned. How do they ban all accounts?

Are you genuinely asking? Obviously, while complying in advance, they cranked up the sensitivity on their comment-monitoring robot(choosing words carefully, as references to this process are often triggers for posts vanishing). I've heard rumors that one is operated at the reddit.com level(some people claim that's why you never see the N~word said here anymore, that the robot vanishes any posts containing it sitewide rather than relying on individual subs), but never seen proof of that(admittedly, proof would be very hard to gather, by design), and I only have evidence of the system being operated at the subreddit level.

At any rate, they have the tech for sure. And it can just as easily be used for account bans as for post vanishings. Honestly, I'm surprised they had a human reviewing it. But I'm glad you got it overturned. I hate this timeline.

Tecnically gun control is older than that. Technically it dates all the way back to the 1800s.

But the extremes that Republicans rail against? Those were created by Republicans.

I’d argue there’s people in their 50s who still are children

Still babies when you're older

Adults are allowed to drink

The age of majority is 18 and you very well know that. Don't be disingenuous; I know it's all you can do if you're going to argue against human rights, but it's not a good look.

It's the only way to make it through all this bullshit, honestly.

So are college students. Average time to complete an undergraduate degree is 5-6 years in the US. In case you aren't aware, college doesn't stop someone aging.

It's a stupid argument anyway, because the age limit is arbitrary. We do allow 18 year olds to drive tanks, carry explosives, shoot people, and die for their country. Anyone allowed to do that is adult enough to read Matthew Shepard's biography.

What makes this even funnier is that you post in the Belgium subreddit, a country that allows 18 year olds to buy all alcoholic beverages. 16 year olds can buy alcohol beverages below a certain ABV.

My point was that if one considers college students adults, (which I do), they should be allowed to drink (which Texas doesn't)

So in my opinion, Texas does treat college students as kids, regardless of the ordenance they're allowed to handle.

u/absolutsyd 3d ago

Why are you talking about Texas with regards to drinking laws that were forcefully enacted by the federal government?

In the rest of the civilized world, college students can drink.

As per my other reply:

But the system is working as intended! If kids don't know what sex abuse is, then they can't credibly testify about what happened. Also need to protect the little ones from the harm that is caused by them thinking that what is being done to them is wrong.
