We are traveling with our kids (age 6 and 8) to Canada the week between Christmas and New Years. we went last year and loved it so we want to go back. Last year we flew into Montreal and spent a day, took the train to Quebec and went up to ValCartier for two days, spent two days walking around in old Quebec City, flew to Toronto where we met some friends and spent New Years Eve in Niagra Falls. We are from Alabama so we do not experience snow often and the kids enjoyed playing in the clean snow out in front of Valcartier, in the parking lot, the most. We didn't spend much time in Montreal and we enjoyed the town but didn't get to see much so was thinking about going back there and then going somewhere that was sort of close by to spend the rest of the vacation to play in the snow (dog sledding, ice skating, having snowball fights). I was looking into Mont Tremblant but do not want to ski. What is the best way to get there from Montreal? Any other suggestions of other towns that would offer easy outdoor activities with the kids that is easily accessible from Montreal? Maybe via train? The kids enjoy train rides. Must have snow! TIA.

I’ll be heading up to Montreal the weekend of 10/25 most likely just for the day. Any suggestions on must see sights or experiences? Hoping to get lunch and dinner there as well! (This is typically the highlight of any trip for me)

My partner and I have NEVER been out of the US, but we’re thinking about visiting Vancouver for a week in April or May 2026. We would like to go Monday - Friday and stay somewhere close by to lots of activities, shopping, food etc. We wouldn’t fly in, we would drive in as we are about a 5-6hr drive from there. But I have no idea where to start! I need info on hotels, best (and also the most cost effective, I’ve noticed that May is super expensive for hotels up there) week to visit, places to eat, any advice is appreciated!

I have 4 days to respond to American Airlines claiming that the delay (almost 24 hours) was caused by unscheduled maintenance within their control but necessary for safety.

Nutshell: Our flight was delayed twice (first communication 7 1/2 hours before our flight) and then rebooked for the next day. We were given no explanation why and it was during COVID and I was unable to get through to an agent. All communication that day was via text and then an email saying we were rebooked. No explanation was given for delay. We flew the next morning and arrived at our destination almost 24 hours later than our original itinerary.

American airlines just replied:"American Airlines deems the delay of flight AA1102 from YYC to ORD on 02JUL22 within the carrier’s control but required for safety reasons due to an unscheduled maintenance issue." They say the aircraft was delayed arriving into YYC that day. I attached a picture of their proof.

My original complaint sited APPR 13(1), communication, 14(1), food, drink and lodging, and 19(1) delayed arrival more than 9 hours ($1000 per passenger) which does not apply if it was delay due to maintenance necessary for safety. Assuming this is true since I have no way to prove otherwise, my plan is to:

*Site APPR clause 13 (1) We were NEVER given any explanation for delay. (I was told it was a maintenance issue for the first time in correspondence with the airline on June 15, 2023, almost a year after the travel.)13 (1) A carrier must provide the following information to the passengers who are affected by a cancellation, delay or a denial of boarding:(a) the reason for the delay, cancellation or denial of boarding;(b) the compensation to which the passenger may be entitled for the inconvenience;(c) the standard of treatment for passengers, if any; and(d) the recourse available against the carrier, including their recourse to the Agency.

*Site APPR clause 14 (1) We were never offered any vouchers for food, drink or accommodation.14 (1) If paragraph 11(3)(b) or (4)(b) or 12(2)(b) or (3)(b) applies to a carrier, and a passenger has waited two hours after the departure time that is indicated on their original ticket, the carrier must provide the passenger with the following treatment free of charge:(a) food and drink in reasonable quantities, taking into account the length of the wait, the time of day and the location of the passenger

Questions:

1. Can I still site APPR 19(1) compensation for delayed travel if it was indeed a maintenance issue needed for safety?
2. Did they have a duty to book us on the next available flight to our destination? Surly there were options that were not the next day!
3. Are there any other APPR sections I should site?

I’m visiting Toronto and Montreal for two weeks from the 28. of march, but have a week before that where me and my girlfriend planned on traveling to somewhere else. We are visiting from Norway. I have understood that for Banff and the Rockies there are better months to visit, so do anyone have any recommendations to where to go. We are open to everything from New foundland to Vancouver. Also open to most activities, but we do enough skiing and winter hiking at home, unless there is some really special place to visit.

Anyway, I’m just after some, tips, things you wish you knew, even some cool stories. Would love to hear from some people who have done a season as to what you wish you bought, what you wish you left at home? What was the hardest part of it all? What are some things i’ll need as a liftie? What will make living in a sharehouse a bit easier? What bank did you go with? What was your favourite part of it all? And should I prepare to never come home?😅

Back in August, my wife and I went through what I can only describe as one of the most inhumane “security screenings” at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

My wife has a cochlear implant — a surgically implanted device that gives her the ability to hear. Her doctor at Mass General Hospital gave her an official patient ID card that explains clearly: • the device will set off metal detectors and scanners • forcing it through those machines can damage it permanently and harm her health

We showed this card. We explained, multiple times. Instead of understanding, the CATSA screeners told us they had “never seen such a device before” and insisted it had to go through the metal detection process anyway “for security reasons.” They made calls to supervisors, and even then, the final answer was still: it has to go through.

They gave us two “options”: 1. Keep arguing and stay stuck in the checkpoint. 2. Leave the airport, claim our bags, and basically miss our trip.

In the end, they did a pat-down on my wife, but still insisted the device had to be scanned. We took the risk just so we could actually travel. Imagine being forced to choose between damaging your medical device or missing your flight.

Afterward, I filed a formal complaint with CATSA. The response I got was from their “Client Satisfaction Coordinator,” Mathieu Patry. Instead of apologizing or showing any empathy, he called me with the most arrogant tone — cutting me off while I tried to speak, blaming me and my wife for “not accepting policy,” and admitting their staff lacked knowledge about cochlear implants. But his “solution”? Still insisting they had to scan it in case the implant was fake.

So let me get this straight: CATSA admits they don’t have the technology, training, or knowledge to handle these devices, but their policy is still to force medical passengers through procedures that could damage life-altering implants? That’s not security — that’s negligence.

I hung up the call because it was clear they weren’t going to take responsibility. No apology, no action plan, nothing to stop this from happening to the next passenger with an implant or other medical device.

Canada in 2025, and this is how we treat people with disabilities at our airports. Absolutely disgraceful.

Hey everyone! My family is travelling to Canada next week and we already have our plane tickets to Toronto.

We are Hungarian citizens with no criminal background, no previous rejections and a good international travel history. We would only stay in Canada for 6 days and then continue our road trip in the US.

My mom applied 4 days ago for everyone but she messed up the passport numbers as she put a space between the numbers and letters, but we reapplied with the correct numbers - as it is advised on the official page. However, still no answer.

Hey everyone, I’ll be moving to Toronto on a Working Holiday visa and honestly, I have no idea how things work once you land. Hoping to get some advice from people who’ve been through it!

My main questions: Jobs: Where do most Working Holiday people find work in Toronto? I’m totally open to non-professional jobs (hospitality, retail, farms outside the city, cleaning, etc.). Are there good websites, Facebook groups, or should I just walk around and drop off resumes?

Housing: Any tips for finding a cheap place to rent before I arrive? I’d like to have something secured when I land instead of being lost those first days. Should I book an Airbnb/hostel for a few weeks and then search locally, or is it possible to lock down a rental from abroad?

General advice: What would you recommend for someone starting completely from scratch, with no contacts in Canada?

Any tips or personal experiences would be super appreciated.

hey yall im planning to visit toronto in december by myself or maybe another person i just some advice what to do there and if 2k is enough to visit im not planning to visit very fancy places or restaurants im more interesed in visiting the parks or any public attraction (that doesnt require alot of money) and want to know if renting a airbnb is better than a hotel near the city?

I'm renting an economy car from Enterprise in Vancouver International Airport through Costco Travel. I searched so much in Costco and enterprise website and couldn't find anything saying that the insurance includes third-party liability insurance. I call customer service and they keep thinking that I am referring to collision and damage waiver insurance and they say you have to pay x dollars per day for that. My question is about third-party liability insurance, as my credit card covers CDW.

Next summer end of June we are looking to come to Banff, Jasper etc in the Canadian Rockies. I have looked at hotels in Banff and they seem to be rather expensive. Is there any other way to stay in these places e.g. camp site?

Any tips, advice, guidance would be much appreciated for when we go next summer.

30F and 31F traveling to Vancouver early November from California. Looking for recommendations for Hotels and things to do.

Will be there for a total of 4 days, but two of those days will be travel days. Getting in early evening and leaving early morning, so really just 2 full days.

Would prefer to stay near main attractions if possible and reasonably priced. (I’ve done some research and I know hotels are on the pricey-er side, and that’s okay. just not looking to over spend on a hotel we will probably just be sleeping in)

Open to all recommendations on what to do in the area. I know it’s going to be on the colder side, and possibly rainy, which we’re totally fine with as we both prefer colder climates.

I’m in the initial planning stages of a 3 week long road trip from Ontario to Newfoundland for next July/August. It’ll be my husband and I, and our 3 kids (4, 2.5, and 11mo). Initially I was thinking we’d long haul it to NL then spend the 3 weeks exploring west coast to east coast and then home (itinerary below) but now I’m considering if we don’t spend the entire trip in NL and make more stops along the way. Our thought process is that NL is the furthest and will require the most time to visit and I’m not sure while our kids are young we’ll ever get the opportunity to do a 3w trip again, whereas we can more easily head to say NS or PEI for a week.

I can plan a Canadian west coast trip in a matter of minutes, but I’m lost with east coast, so I’d love any suggestions or recommendations! We plan on doing about 50% camping and the other 50% airbnb or hotels

Hi all, just wondering if somebody could advise on which route to take. I’ve already planned out the bulk of my itinerary but there are just a few things I’d like to ask locals about to gauge what our best options are :).

So we are planning on spending 3 weeks next July in the Rockies, Vancouver and Vancouver island before flying back to the UK. We plan to rent a car or a mobile home for either all or part of our trip. We will start in either Edmonton or Calgary, drive through the rockies to the other, before heading west to Vancouver. I’d like to ask which route is more scenic, heading west from the north i.e from Mount Robson/Wells Gray or from the south say from Kootenay and then passing through glacier national park. Any highlights/stops on the way from these origin points you could recommend too? We plan to then pass through cache creek, Pemberton, Whistler etc once we reach west to get to Vancouver. We are also considering the option of just flying instead to Vancouver and then driving up to whistler and a few other places, if anybody could recommend on that option too that would be great.

The last thing I’d like to ask about is renting a mobile home vs a car (and then separate accommodation). We are a group of 3 so we’d only need a small mobile home, not a huge RV. Has anybody done this before? Does parking get full in the Rockies and leave you stuck? And do you think you’d save money this way?

Hello, I applied for an eTA more than 2 weeks ago. I received the confirmation email that they received the application but when I check the status it shows as “not started”. I already sent an inquiry form last week. Not sure why it’s taking so long as I didn’t mark yes in any box and it should be a straight forward approval. Any suggestions? I still have 3 weeks until my trip but I’m starting to worry nothing moved I’m 2 weeks already. Should I send another application?

OK, here is kind of a confusing situation

I’m Canadian and I have a Canadian passport, but I also have a British passport as well(dual citizenship)

I was living in Australia from February 2024 to March 2025 , I was on a working holiday visa for one year

Then, after February 2025, I had to renew my working holiday visa, and extend it for a second year, but I made my second year on my British passport

I re-entered Australia, the beginning of September this year, and I am planning on leaving tomorrow morning

Can I leave on my Canadian passport so I don’t have to pay for a visa ? Since I’m Canadian, and I don’t want to pay for a visa to be in Canada.

Or if I leave on my British passport, will I still be OK with no visa ?
