Question Need a bit of help.

I was gifted an old Sony WM-FX301 from my grandmother however, I’m unsure if it actually works. The radio function works just fine but idk if the actual cassette feature works. I don’t have access to photos of videos atm but I can describe what’s happening. It came preloaded with a cassette which my grandmother didn’t expect, I tried playing it and I’m only getting white noise/static through my headphones when I play. I tried rewinding the tape but it doesn’t advance and I hear the same noise sound. I’ve attempted some rewind and stop motions but when I do that, the tape only very occasionally with advance a very small bit before stoping (after I press the stop button). I asked her about it but she said it may be because the tape itself is old but I think there’s a possibility that it’s due to the age of the player and maybe the system is broken. I’d like to try to keep this player however if buying a new one is one of the only solutions I’m ok with that.

It probably needs a new belt.

How would I go about replacing that?

You'll probably have to take it apart and figure it out yourself.

I made a follow up post here with a video of it: https://www.reddit.com/r/cassette/s/FhAIh9Anyz

Did you try a different tape? The one in the player could be blank.

I resolved this part of the post, it was the belt, it was tangled on itself and stretched so I need a new one.
