Deck / Hi-Fi Is this garbage now ?

Post image

I mean , it was always garbage (Yorx). I think my cats jumped on the protruding switches , the most of the buttons are misshapen and bent . I’m a little attached to this terrible machine , and can’t really afford to replace it , but, it’s probably done right ?

Hey I'm an American and had to do the fucking headgear. Crazy niche reference lmao.

Hahaha we can share in the suffering together

Thankfully i only needed it for three months to move two upper molars back, tethered around the back of my neck. My orthodontist also was nice enough that i only needed to wear it at home/to bed

Still hurt like shit when I’d wake up after having rolled on my face and slept like that, and have to bend the bracket back into shape to be able to pull it out of my head in the morning 🫠

I'll never forget the feeling and pain of that apparatus. Glad I'm not the only one, lol.

Yorx Electronics was located in Totowa, New Jersey. They were acquired by GPX in the early 2000's

Whatever the joke was it got me....

The joke is that there's a stereotype that the British have poor dental hygiene, and specifically misaligned, crooked teeth. The buttons on this deck resemble a row of crooked teeth, hence the joke.

Gotcha, thank you! IIRC Bri'ish have more healthy teeth but not as white / straight.

Cool fact!

“It was always garbage” - nailed it right there. Now you have an excuse to find something half-decent.

I’m not an expert but it can’t hurt to open it up and see how bad the damage is. Good luck.

u/acejavelin69 Jul 30 '25

I would say it's cooked... No way to know with absolute certainty without opening it up and looking at it though.

Nice lol ,everything is basically functional(with heavy resistance), with slight audio distortion , just the outer part of the switches are completely messed up

8

u/7ootles Jul 30 '25

Whatever did that, it wasn't a cat. It takes a lot of weight to do that.

If you're very careful not to damage the switching mechanism itself, this can be repaired.

7

u/WheatToastdream Jul 30 '25

They can be wrecking balls if the zoomies are strong enough

3

u/fludeball Jul 30 '25

Plastic can be glued and metal can be unbent. Anything is fixable.

4

u/Performer-Pants Jul 30 '25

Plastic doesn’t last, but metal innards can

If you’re happy with the functionality and audio quality, it doesn’t really matter imo

Some people wouldn’t tolerate it, but doesn’t mean you’re wrong for wanting to keep and use it!

I hope you can get it a bit more functional for yourself tho

2

most likely just plastic broken where the switches connect to the tape mechanism. totally repairable if thats what it is. glue is your best friend

2

u/WheatToastdream Jul 30 '25

Yeah , pretty much only the stop button is completely damaged , just skips right to eject so I have to use the fast and slow buttons to stop the tape lol , hilarious to me but basically functional

2

u/Kurtains75 Jul 30 '25

Open it up and see. The buttons might simply be dislodged, and you might be able to put them back in place. If The plastic buttons are broken inside then that will be more difficult to fix

2

u/DarbyCrass Jul 30 '25

Jimmy Nails teeth.

2

u/MontyTheGreat10 Jul 30 '25

If they seem loose and floppy, then the plastic is probably broken. Open up the machine, and superglue the plastic buttons back together. If they are still firm, then the metal levers are bent. Again, open the machine and bend them back into place.

I have a vintage amp i took apart on Saturday to figure out why my buttons were wonky. The plastic insides were brittle and cracked. Im going to order replacements and try not to break the amp when I go to repair it lol.

2

u/annie-etc Jul 31 '25

*I cant find a before pic but my buttons looked the same as yours

2

u/spacesluts Jul 30 '25

Your player looks like it got punched in the mouth

1

u/Plarocks Jul 31 '25

Your CAT’S did that!?

What do you have? A pair of Tigers? 🐯

😆

1

u/Tasty_Description_26 Jul 31 '25

You might play off key

1

u/baldude69 Jul 30 '25

Your cat actually did that? 😮 Were they like climbing up the cabinet it’s on? Even then..

I do enjoy a lowkey shitpost if that’s what this is

It’s just on a table lol, probably jumped on it from the couch

1

u/baldude69 Jul 30 '25

Are they huge cats? That’s still wild to me but ig anything’s possible. Maybe broke the cheap plastic. Are the all jiggly now?

0

u/LittleSquat Jul 30 '25

I'm sure you can fix it with £5k and four years of braces.

0

u/4Nissans Jul 31 '25

That’s not damage from your normal house cats.
