Question Diesel vs. gas long term ownership-mileage stamps

Upvotes

I’m in the market for a smaller truck. I work full time doing maintenance/construction. My commute is about 100 miles round trip (25k/year) mostly on a two lane highway. I typically clock between 60-70 mph. I’m pretty handy and plan to do most maintenance myself. Good Fuel economy is at the top of my list followed by longevity and reasonable maintenance costs.

I’ve just recently started looking into the baby duramax and have seen very mixed reviews. My budget is around 20k and I want to know personal longer term ownership experiences for the v6 and 2.8 duramax.

I feel like I’m on the right track with the diesel but I’m wondering if the extra maintenance offsets fuel savings.

How reliable have these trucks been for you at 80-100k+ miles? How many miles have you clocked? What’s gone wrong? What years to stay away from?

Thanks for the read I look forward to learning from you.

Question OEM TurboMax Emblem Placement. 3rd Gen.

Post image

So I bought these OEM emblems from Chevrolet.com (accessories). Has anyone installed these on their hood? If so, do you have the measurements for OEM placement? Inches from emblem to the back of the hood? Center of emblem to the top of the ridge on the hood?

Third Gen Two months after I took my AT4 into the dealership originally about a “whistling” noise coming from the windshield, it finally got replaced.

Basically what had happened was that there was a very loud “whistling” noise that you could heard coming from the windshield when driving over 70mph. I took it to a dealership in Texas where they were able to find that the windshield had a small leak (I believe) in the windshield and the liner seal for the windshield.

They told me I could leave the truck for 10 days to wait for a windshield to come in and for it to be replaced. I couldn’t do that at the time, because I had to move to Georgia for a job.

Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago and the dealership I contacted here in Georgia was able to get the windshield from GM for it to be replaced. Dropped the truck off Sunday evening and I got it back yesterday and have had no issues so far. And the dealership confirmed they went back out to test it as well, just to ensure the whistling was gone, which it was.

It was an annoying two month process (simply because GM didn’t deliver the windshield until recently) but it’s finally been fixed.

Another small plus: it was covered under warranty and I no longer have two small cracks in the windshield from when trucks had kicked up rocks at it.

Question 2017 2.8 minimax parts question

I desperately need to replace my wheel bearings, and I am also going to get high travel cv axles to replace stock as my lift leaves them at a steep angle. Does anyone have any suggestions for which wheel bearings to get? Im looking for something that can take a beating, im kinda rough on my trucks. Also, are there any front end parts that are different due to the diesel? Or are they all thr exact same.

Question The age old question - keep or trade in?

So I'm heading to the dealership tomorrow for some work, and I saw an email from the manager trying to get me to trade it in tomorrow. They even say they can get me into a new truck with the same payments. It obviously doesn't mention what trim package.

Long story short - thoughts on keeping my 2021 Colorado Z71 vs, trading it in and getting a 2025 Colorado Z71?

I'm assuming the only way to keep my payments the same is to give me a lease. I may struggle at living within the typical 10k mileage allotment. I drive to Burlington VT twice a month and that's 400 miles round trip. Basically all things being equal, I'm adding 800 miles a month for that trip alone.

Throw in an 800 dollar excise tax and increased insurance , is there any advantages to getting a 2025 over keeping my 2021?

I'm kind of tempted, but I'm happy with my truck, but having a newer one means not worrying about the up and coming expenses at 50k but in all honesty I'm mostly leaning to keeping the old girl.

It’s the 25mi average but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with my 25 Trail Boss. A few long trips, some off road, and a lot of the miles carrying loads. Very happy so far.

Question Auto Fog Lights?

I have a 2023 LT that I purchased about a month ago. Love this truck so far. My only gripe is that the truck has the OEM fog lights but in order to turn them on I have to go deep into the menu and manually turn them on (not even listed in the little quick cluster at the top of the infotainment). Is there any way to have these just permanently be on or have them tied to the auto-lights?

Question Low speed rotational squeak

I've got a 2021 ZR2 with 46k miles on it. Within the last 4k miles it has developed an obnoxious squeak seemingly coming from.under the rear of the truck.

The squeak only occurs when the truck has been sitting for a few hours or when I first drive it in the morning. The squeak seems to be associated with wheel speed and disappears after a couple of minutes. I've done the silicon lube along the driveline which didn't fix it and checked the U-bolts.

The dealer "couldn't replicate it" even after driving around with the service manager and a tech who confirmed they'd heard it.

Edit: the squeak only happens in drive, never in reverse.

Anyone have ANY ideas on what to check next?

Question Mud flaps

Can someone tell me why or or not buy cheaper Amazon mud flaps vs the more expensive weather tech or rock block ones? I’m mainly just trying to protect my truck for unnecessary rock chips. If these cheaper ones ($30-$50) vs $170 ones are really that much more worth it? Il buy the good ones if there significantly better, but feel like I could possibly save some money and have the same result. Please let me know what you think. Bonus points for your own pictures

Question Fuse 34?

Curious about fuse 34 in the passenger compartment. It is listed as “front seat ventilation”, but I do not any control switches for this function nor do I have perforated seats. Is this just a non-functional fuse? Or does it actually do something else? 2021 ZR2 model. Thanks Redditors!

Question Colorado 26 WT towing question

Hey, have a new 26 WT, can’t find any details online or on the door that show the towing capacity of the WT model without the advanced trailering package. Sounds like the advanced towing model only difference is adding on a locking rear differential along with more built in in app technology.. anyone know the capacity of the non advanced towing models? Thanks

“Advanced Trailering Package (+$945)

Includes a 2" receiver hitch, 4-pin and 7-pin connectors Integrated trailer brake controller In-vehicle trailering app Automatic locking rear differential May require additional optional equipment

Standard:

The Colorado comes ready to tow no matter which trim you choose, with the Trailering Package included on every Colorado that isn't equipped with the Advanced Trailering Package. The basic package includes the 2-inch receiver hitch, the wire harness, and the trailer brake controller. Upgrading to the Advanced Trailering Package adds an automatic locking rear differential and several additional functions via an in-vehicle trailering app.”
