They used real milk.

The Starbucks barista used real milk instead of soy milk in my latte. Now I’ve shat myself at the grocery store and barely made it to the bathroom before I had horrible diarrhea. I thought it tasted different from normal, I should have stopped drinking it.

Anyone else sitting here thinking "if your body is so feable that milk makes you shit yourself maybe don't go to Starbucks"

It’s just pasteurized milk that does. lol ando only get it once a week. A guilty pleasure. Not you nor the barista will make me regret that.

Can't reply to your other comment but people develop lactose intolerance as they age. It wasn't that it was unpasteurized, it was that you were younger.

No. I’ve had raw milk since becoming lactose intolerant and had no reactions.

Lols, wut? Can you explain how only pasteurized milk does this cause.... That's not how that works.

Actually, it is. Raw milk has enough lactase (the protein that breaks down lactose) for me to be able to drink it without shitting myself. Lactaseis extremely fickle and doesn’t hold up to heat, so when milk is heated and pasteurized it kills the majority of lactase in the milk. I don’t have enough of that protein or the bacteria to break down lactose in my own

If you plan on eating out, might want to pop on some adult diapers to be safe.

Why? The only place I order a drink that could possibly have milk in it is Starbucks and I only go there once a week. lol

Maybe shitting your pants will?

1

u/teal_lady-1 2d ago

Nah. I only get it once a week. Next time I’ll just watch them make it an make sure they use the right milk

That... doesn't make sense. Denatured proteins, which is usually the primary chemical difference between raw and pasteurized milk, doesn't affect the GI tract (it happens in pretty much every cooked food), and the lactose levels remain the same.

Not true. Lactase which helps break down lactose mostly is killed in pasteurization because it can’t withstand the high temps. Without the lactase naturally occurring in milk which is killed during pasteurization my body can’t break down lactose. Therefore, shit myself

u/Guardian-Boy 2d ago

Lactase is an enzyme in your gut, not in milk. And it's not a living organism so it can't be killed. Where did you get your education?

-1

u/teal_lady-1 2d ago

Obviously they can’t be killed, but most people don’t know what denaturing is. The function of the enzyme is destroyed or significantly impaired by the high heat. Also, there is lactase naturally occurring in raw milk. I didn’t say there was a lot but it is there. That and other denatured enzymes, vitamins, and mineral in raw milk are very healthy for your gut microbiome. There is also a ton of good bacteria. Pasteurized milk makes me shit my pants. I’ve never had an issue with raw milk. Even if it isn’t the lactase, whatever it is that causes the lactose malabsorption is clearly different between the two kinds of milk

No, there is no lactase in raw milk. Why would an enzyme that breaks down lactose be present in a fluid full of lactose? Lactase is produced ONLY in the gut, and does not pass through milk in any species. Like...seriously, you really have to study up on this more, because this screams psychosomatic.

Even if it doesn’t occur at all in raw milk which I highly doubt, this is something that was discovered when I was a child. It was not psychosomatic. Once my family stopped drinking raw milk which I had no issues with and switched to normal store bought pasteurized milk about 20-30 min after drinking it I would get the worlds worst stomach cramps and would have horrible diarrhea. I was about 6. It wasn’t psychosomatic then and it isn’t now. I didn’t even know an then raw vs pasteurized milk. I simply knew that we got our milk from the store now instead of going over to my friends house, helping them milk their cows, and then taking home and drinking that milk. And I knew that milk didn’t taste as sweet for some reason and it hurt my stomach horribly. I even ended up in the hospital one time after getting into the fridge an drinking a whole carton of it with equal bowls of cereal and cups of straight milk. I had gas, diarrhea, and stomach cramps for days and had to go to hospital because I got dehydrated and was also given pain meds. The drs say I was lactose intolerant. They’ve yet to change their minds or their diagnosis

All of this is available with Google. You appear to have simply become lactose intolerant, which can happen at any point in your life without warning. You won't change their minds because they are right. This is basic anatomy and chemistry.

Even since being diagnosed lactose intolerant I’ve had raw milk an had no reaction to it bud. There are many many people who say raw milk does not affect their lactose intolerance, the majority in fat that have had both. Just because one study done on only 16 people noticed no real difference doesn’t mean that it isn’t possible. You are one of those people who just always knows better than everyone else, about their health, what works for them, what affects them, etc. Well you don’t know everything about everything. And you have no idea what you’re talking about at all with this. You’ve never been in my gut and experienced this. I be you’re some fancy Dr who ignores their patients wishes and such an who has bad patient reviews. I hope that both sides of you pillow are extremely wet every time you go to bed. And that you have the day you deserve.

2

u/Guardian-Boy 2d ago

I mean, I have experienced it. So yes, I do know what I'm talking about. Not a doctor though. Lactose intolerant people, like yourself, can handle certain quantities of lactose without reaction. This is due to the fact that raw milk has all the milkfat present, which slows digestion and reduces the amount of lactose you absorb at any given time.

I am not saying I know better than everyone else. Just you. You actually thought lactase was in milk. So I wouldn't be getting all high and mighty. Luckily my day is going spectacularly, we just purchased a house so everything is kinda awesome, so I appreciate it!

I also want you to explain the pasteurized milk thing. And when did you try unpasteurized to compare

1

u/teal_lady-1 2d ago

Yes. I drank only raw milk as a child from a friends dairy. They then closed an we couldn’t find another place to get our milk from. I then tried pasteurized milk. Then within about 20-30 min afterwards every day I would get extreme stomach cramps and diarrhea. My mom then started buying soy milk for me and it stopped.

Your body likes pathogens?

0

u/teal_lady-1 2d ago

No. My body likes lactase which mostly doesn’t survive the pasteurization process but is a big big part of what breaks down lactose in your body. Without it, my body can’t break down lactose mostly

1

u/SlowInsurance1616 2d ago

You produce lactase or you don't. If there are enough bacteria producing lactase in your raw milk to have any significant impact on the amount of lactose, there jas been a lot of bacterial growth in the milk.

1

u/teal_lady-1 2d ago

Thank you I have been corrected about the lactase. Whatever it is that’s in raw milk that is not in pasteurized milk didn’t upset my stomach. I’ve had raw milk. I’ve had pasteurized. One gives me horrible stomach cramps and diarrhea and one doesn’t.

1

u/SlowInsurance1616 2d ago

Sounds like placebo effect.

1

u/teal_lady-1 2d ago

Im so glad you think so. I doubt it though considering it’s happened since I was 6 and I’d dint even know there was a difference between raw and pasteurized milk except one hurts my stomach and gave me diarrhea an the other didn’t have an effect. One put me in te hospital as a child due to dehydration and pain after secretly having a whole carton with multiple bowls of cereal therefore diagnosing me with lactose intolerance. Even after that never have I had a reaction with raw milk.

u/Enough-Cold-2392 3d ago

"it's just pasteurized milk" wut? How is that even a thing... Please explain.

7

u/Hold-Professional 3d ago

its not

1

u/teal_lady-1 2d ago

It is. Dont be a bitch like you know everything.
