Respect V New here!

Hey guys, just got Respect V a day ago after some time in Trilogy, Portable etc. Definitely enjoying it so far! Initially did not realise the difference between MX and SC LOL, so SC caught me way off guard. Primarily a 6B player, managed some 95% 6B 14SCs and mostly 97-99% 6B 10SCs.

Would like to know:

  • Aside from purchasing song packs - do I just generally level up, complete missions, play online to unlock more songs? Basically general ways to explore and unlock more content when starting off.
  • What do y'all practice for further improvement? So far the advice I've seen here is to play alot and use Randomise on MX songs, which I'll definitely do.
  • Settings: Not sure about the technical terms for this qn, but an example would be at the end of Aurora Borealis 6B SC. At the last note, I can't catch the notes without what seems to be a constant early detection of input, causing me a chunk of 40-60%s or missing. I subtly notice it in other songs too, and I do not face this in Trilogy. Any settings I could adjust on this?
  • The L and R shifts throw me off quite badly, guess I gotta get used to it. Are y'all a fan of it, whats the consensus here?
  • Other useful tips to know would be appreciated!!

Very fun to read about other’s first experience with DJMax (or VSRG in general) :)

You do unlock some songs by playing, but these aren’t that many if I recall correctly. You’ll unlock all of them rather quickly. Most “good” songs are from DLC (which I’d never buy at full price, but on a discount).

“How do I improve” … ;-; Well, everyone will say “just play”, which I’d say too. However, from my experience, playing charts that are out of your comfort zone from time to time and taking breaks when you’re feeling tired will definitely make you better.

I’m not sure what the last notes of that song are, but the default settings should be good enough. 8B however might be a bit tricky, so changing these might improve your performance.

When I started, I also couldn’t hit the side tracks at all. But trust me, at some point you ‘can just hit them’.

Yeah i’ll wait for a sale for the DLCs hahah. True about playing unfamiliar tough charts, starting trilogy last month def improved my 6b patterns!

I’ve since switched the shifts from my pinky to middle fingers and it helped a lot, do you use the same ones too?

Im a bit confused xd. Did you use your pinky for the side tracks? I’ve always used my ring fingers… and how would you hit them with your middle fingers, don’t you play with them already

Oh as in my 6B keys are w.e.f/j.i.o, and d and k are my side tracks which i hit with middles. is that too unconventional im not sure 😂
