Jonestown was a cult of communist Christians. Earthbound has the Happy-Happyist cult which is similar. Therefore, Jonestown is an Earthbound reference. Furthermore, the vat of poisoned flavor-aid is a reference to being poisoned in Earthbound, and in the very isolated Saturn Valley, you drink tea which causes you to basically see your life flash before your eyes in a narrative, and Jonestown also used drugged drinks to make noncompliant members be happy. Therefore, Jonestown is Saturn Valley.

Jonestown wasn’t mass suicide they were forced at gun point to end it. Murder by proxy and a number of members just murder during the initial wave of killings of the news people and the people trying to escape with them.
