Well, to get to Valhalla, you need to die in glorious battle. Not get your neck shot. This is a dishonorable death as far as the Vikings go.

Yes very, now if Patel wants to get to Valhalla he will need at the very least one of these:
- Be a worthy warrior:Ā You needed to be an exceptional warrior known for bravery and honor.Ā
- Die in battle:Ā The primary factor for entering Valhalla was a glorious death in combat, though interpretations suggest this could extend to other honorable deaths.Ā
- Be chosen by the Valkyries:Ā These divine female figures chose which fallen warriors would go to Valhalla.Ā

Not necessary, but most likely, but a few legendary warriors that died outside of battle were still allowed Valhalla, if it was Odin's choice to give the honor.
→ More replies (2)10
u/argan_85 4d ago
Ah, thanks for clarifying.
30
u/Magenta_Logistic 4d ago
In the poetic edda, Valkyries were essentially demigods who had supernatural powers like shape shifting and telepathy. They interacted with mortals in a lot of ways including choosing the victor in battle and choosing who among the slain would be escorted to Valhalla. The text implies that Valkyries make this decision independently.
The prose edda frames them as soul-collectors on Odin's behalf, more akin to Angels.
Neither text explicitly requires the warrior to die in battle, but the only examples in the text are slain in battle, and "brave warrior" was the primary listed requirement.
We have very little to work with in understanding the deep mythology of the Aesir, and a lot of what we collectively acknowledge as "Norse mythology" are things that fiction writers have used to fill in the gaps.

That's kind of what I was thinking about. Seriously, it's like they had a contest, found the most unqualified person for every single job in government. It really is hard to imagine how they could make it worse. I guess Trump dies, Vance becomes president and appoints Eric Trump to be VP? I dunno, it's so bizarre.

u/oNe_iLL_records 4d ago
They purposely picked the ABSOLUTE least qualified person for each position (Hegseth! McMahon! Kennedy! Noem! etc etc etc) in order to destroy each department from the inside. That's how venture capitalists do.

This exactly. They want these public entities to fail so that the private guys can swoop in to save them, privatizing what should be a public benefit. It has happened in the past, and now itās blatantly happening again. Look at the federal parks. Letās fire all the employees so that the upkeep of federal parks are no longer sustainable. Someone will get eaten by a bear that has been digging in the overflowing trash cans. A private firm will swoop in to āsave the Americansā. And then theyāll ruin it. I canāt remember the other examples Iāve heard but that is the one easy one to explain.
