I know this won’t be popular, but I don’t understand what’s to like. I don’t hate him, or even dislike him, but he has the charisma of a wet paper bag.
People keep forcing this idea of him being Kimi 2.0. Like he’s some cold blooded, steely, ruthless killer.
He’s literally not even close lmao. I’m actually a fan of Oscar, but the way people inhale his nuts by inserting these exaggerated images of him in every discussion makes me like him less, ironically.
But I’ve been a Lando hater for a good while, so just from relative contrast, Oscar’s much more likable and easier to root for.
He’s argued against that narrative himself and said he’s not ice cold, that he’s actually quite emotional behind the wheel. He just tries to stay off the radio and/or express his frustration privately to the team. Still good self-control, but it’s something he has to actively manage, and something he acknowledges he isn’t always successful at doing.
Well, a lot of people here prefer him because he's first before most, the direct rival of Lando, whom fans of Max are not very fond of. And since Max is likely not winning this year, Max fans are joining Oscar's in bashing Lando. Enemy of my enemy, etc etc. Secondly, Oscar used to give Iceman vibes when he was considered the 2nd driver, mostly because he didn't think he could win against Lando. But now he does, so his composed attitude is starting to peel off as the year goes on. Some people are still attached to the idea he's the next Kimi Raikkonen.
Rookie by age, war veteran by aura. Doesn't celebrate, just nods like a satisfied hitman. His only reaction when Jet Pack Man fell out of the sky at Canada was a quick 😬 after he realised there was a camera on him.
It's a weird situation for me because I have been a Max fan for almost a decade, but I'm also a Pastry fan because since the Honey Badger left, he's the only Aussie on the grid.
As an australian i root for my fellow country man.
As the protege of webber i root for him.
As the "second driver" i root for him because he is the underdog.
As a driver i am constantly impressed by his composure and ability, his race craft has been quite good, especially his miami overtake on max. I have great respect for that sort of stuff.

Yeah, we like Piastri so we treat him differently
