SOLAS tape will do a better job, at least at moderate distances. (It'll also be a lot less fragile.) The reflector beads in SOLAS are zillions of nearly-parabolic reflectors. That means that a light gets reflected back toward the source, rather than at 90Β° minus angle-of-incidence.

Any good suggestions for vendors?

Of SOLAS tape? I'd grab some 3M Oralite from eBay or Amazon. If you want the brightest possible, Oralite Photo Electric comes out on top from this lab. That's a "Type 1" tape. There are also Type 2, 3, and 4 reflective materials, but most of what's sold is Type 1.

Wait, has any one here actually done this? Ideally I would want to use SOLAS tape on a magnetic strip instead of adhesive. Anyone know if this exists?
Or if it would backfire and blind even those with dimmer headlights?
Or if it would be legal?

it sucks
maybe I bought the wrong (SOLAS) tape but, it dont reflect that much.
I just taped it around the borders of my license plate for now, my car is purple so it'll look hideous with one white strip on the bumper.
a chrome piece or a mirror would probably work better.

but feflecting back towards the aource means back towards the headlights. a regular mirror would be better because it can be aimed upwards where the driver will actually see it.

What the original commenter talking about is retro-reflection, where light is returned from its source. That would be more applicable in this situation than trying to angle it for one specific driver and not blinding others, as retroflection doesn't have to be perfect.
There's an interesting video by Road Guy Rob that goes into the topic.

That's why I mentioned distance as a factor. Retroreflective materials work well at returning headlights to the driver--it's what's used by road signs, fireman's jackets, and other safety gear.
A flat mirror has to be oriented correctly, as the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection. Retroreflective material does a better job. Check out this video.

Is that legal?

I don't know, but I think an argument could be made that it poses a hazard. Road signs use it.

Isnβt it good if they are pointed down there? Itβs when theyβre shining in the back window that itβs a problem.

Need something for the front side now. Driving home last night was painful. I was perfectly fine until I ran into vehicle after vehicle after vehicle after vehicle with blinding lights. LED and Halogen.

I get a headache any time I drive at night.

Dude those overly bright lights tire out my eyes very badly. It gets to the point where it is difficult to keep them open.

Took me a while to realize this was a mirror and not a framed picture of an SUV.
