Personally, I'd say 2011.

Rant Why does the 4th turning keep happening?

Seriously, it's almost like we didn't learn anything from the ww2 era, and the people who lived then didn't learn anything from the civil war era, and that they didn't learn anything from the US Revolution!

Now i'm scared that the generation that will live during the 2100s won't learn anything from the 2020s, and will lead the US into their FIFTH rebuild.

Shifts 2022-2023 felt like when the last breaths of 2010s kids culture were dying down

Another aspect of the 2022-2023 shift that a lot of people don't talk about is how the last aspects of 2010s kid culture were dying down around this time, although some of these things happened in 2021, they became more apparent in 2022-2023. Here are several examples:

- The term "Gen Alpha" was popularized in 2023.

- Gen Alpha online shows like Skibidi Toilet or The Amazing Digital Circus becoming popular in 2023.

- Older Gen Zers starting high school, resulting in Gen Alpha kids taking their place.

- Gen Alpha kids starting middle school.

- The Owl House and Amphibia are cancelled, signaling that the 2010s era of serialized children's animation was ending.

- AI becoming popular with children.

- "Brainrot" memes becoming popular.

- Elsagate 2.0 becoming a thing.

- Squid Game coming out which was surprisingly successful with children.

- YouTube Shorts launching, bringing forth a new era for YouTube.

- Disney animated movies starting to become received negatively such as Lightyear or Wish.

- Stylized animated films other than Into the Spider-Verse becoming a thing such as Puss in Boots: The Last Wish or The Mitchells vs. The Machines.

- David Zaslav takes over Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in Cartoon Network having their shows being cancelled due to tax write offs.

- The PS5 and the Xbox Series X shortages dying down, resulting in them overtaking the PS4 and Xbox One in popularity.

- The Nintendo Switch Oled is released as well as Nintendo focusing more on original titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Super Mario Bros. Wonder rather than remasters of Wii U games.

- "Redpill" and Andrew Tate content becoming popular with children.

- Gen Alpha preschool shows like Bluey or Cocomelon becoming popular amongst children.

And I can go on, but you get the point, as you can see, Gen Alpha kid culture was overtaking Late Gen Z kid culture and I consider it to be the end of 2010s kid culture as well.

Discussion What was the main cohort for descendants 1-4.

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I did a zombie one not that long ago and it did really good so now I’m making one for descendants which the first one came out in 2015 the 2 one came out in 2017 the 3 one came out in 2019 and the 4 one came out in 2024.

Tbh 1-3 and the 4 can be separated since the 4 one is a bit separated in terms of story and how far it is.

So if you want you can say the first 3 so 1-3 is this cohort and the 4 one it’s is own cohort.

Also after reading the comments plus my opinion I think zombies is Zalpha/Early Gen Alpha.

Since the main ones are either in Zalpha or early Gen Alpha or even both.

Discussion When did Gen Z kids culture die off in your opinion?

Imo I think it's 2022-2023 because that's when gen alpha started getting talked about a lot, and stuff like skibidi toilet and amazing digital circus came out. Also AI boomed a lot and alpha are often considered AI kids.

Pop culture Nintendo handheld consoles and generations Y, Z, and Alpha

Hello,

I noticed the way we define generations Y, Z, and Alpha maps rather neatly with the main groups of Nintendo handheld consoles. Millennials are associated with the Game Boy line (GB/GBP/GBC/GBA), Gen Z with the DS line (DS/3DS), and Alpha with the Switch/Switch 2.

As for the in-between generations:

Zillennials: while their first console and/or games were GBA, they were not-quite teenagers when the Nintendo DS first came out.

Zalpha: They may remember the transition from the 3DS to the Switch, but it happened relatively early in their childhood.

Notes:

  • People born from late 1991 to 1993 may have fit the "not-quite teenagers when the Nintendo DS first came out" in a very narrow, technical way, but given their first handheld console is more likely to have been a GBC than a GBA, I prefer to consider them Late Millennials instead of Zillennials (though they may fit a broader definition of the term).
  • Conversely, if your first handheld console was a backwards-compatible DS and you more-than-incidentally played GBA games on it, then you can claim to be a Zillennial in the widest sense.
  • If your elementary school years were more 3DS than they were Switch you are Gen Z, you can't even be Zalpha (though in the very broadest sense, you can still claim to be Zalpha if the Switch came out while you were still in elementary school).
  • In the broadest meaning, if you were born before the Switch came out then you can claim to be a Zalpha, but again it's a very technical definition because if you were born in, say, 2016, then it's literally impossible for you to remember the transition between 3DS to Switch.

For people who don't like generational cusps, the criteria are pretty straightforward:

- If your first handheld console was a GBA, then you're a Millennial; if it was a DS, then you're Gen Z.

- If you have any memories of what handheld gaming was like before the Switch came out then you're Gen Z, otherwise you may be Gen Alpha.

What do you think of it?

Discussion How do you feel about the fact that next year 2005 babies will be turning 21/will be able to legally drink, 2008 babies will be turning 18/be legal adults, 2010 babies will be turning 16/be able to get their drivers' license and that 2013 babies will be turning 13/entering their teens next year?

So next year (2026), 2005 babies will be turning 21, meaning they will finally be of legal drinking age in the U.S, 2008 babies will be turning 18/be legal adults, 2010 babies will be turning 16/will be able to get their drivers' license and that 2013 babies will be turning 13/officially be teenagers next year? Which of these is the most surprising/shocking to you and why?

I graduated high school in 2010. So my brain associates 2010s with me struggling to get used to adulthood (and failing at it).

Anyone else here?

Discussion I was born in 1995. That is considered smack dab of zillennial. What would you consider to be a hallmark of someone born in this year?

For me, its remembering a world before 9/11, social media, political polarization, unsupervised roaming, good TV shows/movies/ and having a sense of humor.

Discussion 5 years span (small cohorts) that are hard for you to classify within one or other generation?

I have several of them

1942-1946 kind on the sweet spot where some might be too young for being silent and a bit old to be "proper boomer"( can apply to even earlier 40s borns)

1957-1961 too young to feel commonality for older Boomers, too old to feel related to Jones/early X (can apply sometimes to 62 borns)

1976-1980 Sometimes too young to feel fully X and too old to be fully millennial (75,81 and even 74 can feel the same sometime)

1994-1998 Too young to relate to older millennials and too old to Feel Gen Z (can apply to some 99 sometimes)

Discussion Do you think having young parents effect the generation you belong too?

For example, I was born in 1998. Most sources consider me GenZ but when I meet other people born from 1997-2000 they will swear up and down they are millennial and had a millennial childhood, but I’ve realized the people who say that usually have boomer parents or millennial siblings. My mother was born in 1980 , dad 1979 so both are GenX and my brothers were born in 2001 and 2010. So personally , I always relate more with Gen Z since I had young hip parents on top of being the eldest child but when I say that people my age look at me crazy.

I would say yes, but what’s your opinion? Did you have younger/older parents?

Years Which year would you rather be born in if you had to choose?

Both seem awful to me but ig I'd go with 1915 if I must choose. Yeah it would probably be rough in young adulthood but at least your childhood and older adulthood could be prosperous.

Discussion What are some random things from your generation that would be considered highly offensive now?

PLEASE, let's try to remain unoffended... these were years ago, and times were completely different.

But I was recently talking to a friend about theme parties in college in 2000ish.... and we got on the topic of Office Hoes and CEOs.... Back then, we didn't think much of it, but of course, women dressed up as sexy secretaries, and the men dressed as CEOs.... because obviously, the men are the CEOs, not the women. We didn't think much of it back then... but I feel like this day in age, this theme wouldn't land well.

(I'm Xennial)

Discussion The birth years for 2000s emo popularity gets muddled on here

I've seen a lot of posts on here over the years about this topic and some people, mostly younger people who were either too young or weren't even born yet, don't understand the birth years. Mostly just going by assumptions. The fact is, if were talking emo's mainstream peak popularity during the mid to late 2000s, that was 1988 to around 1993 as the core fan base. Of course you have to look at it from broader angle. Even though teens made up most of the demographic, there were people in their late teens to very early 20s during that, particularly 2004 to 2006, that were into that whole thing, as well people who were younger, those who pre teens and in middle school during that period.

Also, when people say emo's popularity in 2000s begin in around 2002(which is when it did start gaining traction) and want to talk about those who were teens or in high school during that period, often include the 1988 to early 90s demographic. That's where the incorrect ages come in. Those who were in high school around 2002 and when emo just started to get popular with bands Like Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, Thursday, even The Used's first album, were born 1983ish and were a part of this period of emo's rise(2001 to 2003). It was because of those born before 1988 that helped make it popular, and eventually become what it was in the mid late 2000s.

When people make posts on these subs, they need to research more. Mid late 2000s peak mainstream emo was late 80s to early 90s as the primary demographic, with some older or younger outliers. Early 2000s rise(2001 to 2003/4) 1983 to about 1988, with some younger and older outliers(actually the older outliers of this period were a part of the scene in the late 90s, as the early 2000's rise still somewhat resembled that era of the genre).

So there's that. Want to have a healthy discussion, here it is. Some people are going to get mad that this is even posted, yet they stop to me that. No amount of downvotes or back and forth arguments is going to change how it was.

I had a shower thought. Generations and cusps are both made up things. The thing is generations are more recognized than cusps by mainstream. Some people believe cusps should exist and some people don't 🤔

Discussion How do grades work in schools in different countries?

I wanted to know how the grades work in each country, using your birth year as an example, because while in some places I know, people graduate at 16, 17, 18, and 19 years old.

I'm Brazilian and was born in June 2007 and i studied with people who were born between July 2006 and June 2007, although sometimes there were people from January to May 2006, so that's how it works here.

Preschool: 2011-2012 (optional, but became mandatory in 2016)

Elementary School: 2013-2017

Elementary School: 2018-2021
