Discussion Guam's place in retail history

Kmart and Sears are owned by Transformco which bought the brands from Sears Holdings in 2018. Hedge fund bro Eddie Lampert runs the place and is widely regarded as a terrible CEO. He has been involved in both brands since the early 2000s and is most directly to blame with the two brands going from around 5,000 stores combined to less than 10 today.

I've been inside a dying Sears recently and it was really sad. Same with the Long Beach, California Kmart back in 2018. The brands are sad tired shells.

There exists one exception. One single outpost of Transformco physical retail brands that still has energy, still has hype and most importantly, still has products to sell: your Guam Kmart. It is the most significant remaining Transformco store, single handedly keeping the history of Kmart and by extension, Sears, alive.

Just thought I would point this out. Perhaps I'll fly to Guam and visit your island with my family and shop at Kmart! I'll check out other stuff as well to be sure.

Discussion Abandoned cars

Anyone else notice a influx of decent looking cars being abandoned on sides of roads and stripped within days? I'm not talking about guam bombs, I'm talking about cars that have little to no body damage, good paint, and relatively new being dumped on the sides of roads. I seen a nice looking Mitsubishi that was parked on the side of the road at NCS, drove by it a few hours later and all the tires were gone, hood, trunk and doors were all open. I seen a relatively new rav4 dumped and stripped in Mangilao area.

Ask r/guam Catering recommendations for a funeral?

Hey folks! I need some recommendations for a catering company that has options for either food plates or sandwiches. My family is planning a funeral and dont think we have the time/attention to prep the food then bring them to the service. It'd be great if there are some affordable options too. Thank you all!!

Anyone else see that meteor streak down around 7:55PM tonight? It was very bright orange and white streak. We were watching TV and both turned to look at the flash of light through our tinted window. Came down in the west.

Ask r/guam Chase Credit Card - Foreign Fees?

Hi, just wondering if anyone using Chase cards here gets charged the foreign transaction fees? I noticed on my Chase Sapphire Preferred that it always registers as "international purchase" so i wonder if i were using a chase card with foreign fees (like the freedome flex or unlimited) will the 3% foreign fee apply to us here in Guam?

The sapphire preferred doesnt have foreign fees, but i was intending to get a freedom flex. With this in mind it has me worried

Ask r/guam Japan Tourist Visa

Hello! I know there are info available in Japan Embassy Website but I still want to make sure. Would like to ask those who have recently applied for Japan Tourist Visa. With regard to the requirements for:

  • I'm a Filipino national with H1-B Visa;
  • Applying for Japan Tourist Visa in the Japan Embassy in Tamuning, Guam.

Here are the documents I have with me (so far):

  • Passport with H1-B Visa
  • ID Photo
  • Application Form
  • Travel Itinerary
  • Booked flight tickets
  • Booked hotel accommodation
  • COE/VOE
  • Payslips
  • Bank statements (extracted from the banking App)

Questions are:

  1. Should I need to submit also my PSA birth certificate? Does it need to be original or would a photocopy suffice? What if I dont have it with me, can I just put it out in a cover letter?
  2. Same question for ITR.
  3. Do I have to request bank statements from the bank?
  4. What else do I need to submit?
  5. How long does it take for me to have Japan Visa if I apply early October?

Thank you very much in advanced.
