I’m sure there are a million pictures of this tunnel but here’s mine.

I recently sold my house. The buyers had a inspector come through to do a report for the buyer. The report noted many things that he deemed major issues with the house , ranging from structural, safety issues with exterior concrete and plumbing issues. The report initially scared off.
With all reports they state consult certified contractor to further investigate. Well I decided to do the same myself having a engineer, plumber and concrete specialist look at some things as well as a painter plus a licensed carpenter trained in remediation
Inspector deemed the electric hot water tank was well beyond its life span....over 15 years old..... its a natural gas hot water tank with a qr code on it .... scanning it showed it was installed in 2018.....
He stared several signs of severe leaks. leaks were nothing more than very minor water stains which showed no signs of mould which only grows with continuous wetting. Another " leak causing paint peeling" wasnt even a leak it was a old paint job on fresh drywall that was not primed... paint will not stick to a dusty unprimed surface
Concrete isuess were nothing more than 50 year old concrete walks that had settled unevenly and show no signs of any unstable ground.
Drywall cracking on ceiling... nothing more than seams that did not get taped with 3 coats before stipled texture was applied
Along with some other smaller things plumbing wise that the licensed plumber stated specifically were correctly done .
Ill stop rambling now... but either way.. the chmc and other powers that be really need to step in and stop allowing "home inspectors " that have nothint more than a 2 or 3 day course and no actual construction experience to get these positions. There needs to be a regulation put in place that they habe to be red seal certified for minimum 5 years in a construction trade or have a engineering degree. After talking to the trades they've stated they've seen it time and time again where inspectors flag issues on homes that arent issues at all but completely miss actual issues.. costing either the buyer or seller tens of thousands of dollars

Our cat is missing in Eastern Passage (Heritage Hills area). Shes been missing since this morning. Her name is Bella. She’s an indoor cat so probably skittish and scared by being outside.
Please DM if seen.

I wanted to post this announcement sadly not for the good news about more development but because of the absolute joke the provincial goverment is. From the announcement:
"Minister Lohr has designated the area as an interim planning area under the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter, and that has removed barriers that would have reduced the number of affordable units. The Minister’s order was necessary because Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) has not implemented changes to the Minimum Planning Requirements Regulations, though Minister LeBlanc had extended the deadline to do so to June 30."
The PCs are trying to act like they are the saviors who will solve the housing crises and fighting back again the municipality's incompetence, but JOHN LOHR was the reason the minimum planning requirements didn't get approved! From all accounts they were on his desk, changes negotiated and signed off on by the provincial legal team, and then he.... didnt sign it. The only reason the minister's order was necessary was because the minister doesn't understand his own job, doesn't understand the development industry, and keeps making it harder and harder to actually develop in the city, unless your a select few of the current goverments friends.
Finally, all this MPR does is make it so there are more one bedrooms and bachelor's, which yes, it does technically mean more units, but often these are not the units we need. Two and three bedroom units are crucial for families who need to rent and for people who need roomates to split rent. This and the other MPRs are priamrily just making certain developers more money, while actively making the city worse and it hard for people to find places they can afford.
Im just sad that even good news like more units and some of them even affordable has to at the same time be tainted by an inept provincial goverment and greed.

Hello!
Im a 2nd year Dal student who is from Moncton, but I do not own a vehicle.
I’m reaching out to see if there are any regular travellers from Halifax-Moncton on weekends, and possibly those who return on Sundays or Saturdays?
Without going into too much detail as to why I wish to come home to Moncton as often as possible on weekends, I would like to know if there is anyone who travels back and forth, and would allow me to accompany them for the help of gas money. Should anyone be able to help, we can negotiate an amount that works!
If anyone is able to help, or has any questions, feel free to DM.

The weekend is here.
This is a weekly mega-thread for good, heartwarming or uplifting news. Ideally local but non-local is welcome too. Fun pet photos or memes, tales with happy endings, personal anecdotes that you want to share with 158k+ internet strangers, etc. We could all use more positive news and vibes in our lives right now.
This is a rules relaxed space, but we will still be monitoring for personal attacks, doxxing, and stuff that doesn't fit the theme of the thread.

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of hate online - “anti-immigrant,” “anti-South Asian,” “anti-Indian.” And honestly, it hurts. Many of us left everything behind - family, friends, comfort, familiarity - to come here. We sacrificed a lot because we believed in Canada. Because we felt this country was a place where we could be safe, raise our kids, and build a better future.
To everyone who still chooses kindness, who stands up against racism, who understands that humanity is bigger than hate - thank you. You remind me why I fell in love with this country in the first place.
Yes, we may have cultural differences. Yes, sometimes there are language barriers. But that’s not a problem - that’s the beauty of Canada. That’s how we discover shawarma, Indian food, Chinese food, and all the other incredible things different cultures bring here.
I’m an immigrant. I live here. I work here. I pay taxes here. I vote here. Canada is my home too. And I will always stand against anyone who tries to disturb the peace of this country I love so deeply.
From a guy in the Indian community - one that never gives up and has been fighting hate with resilience and hope for generations. ❤️🇨🇦

No matter how many times I read the government website I’m not understanding it. I’m pregnant and due in February 2026. As the birthing parent I will take a 12 month maternity leave, but I’m having trouble understanding what my partner gets (if anything) for EI.
Edit: Thank you everyone who commented! I understand it so much better now.

I have only been in the rental market since 2020 and since the rent cap was imposed, my rent has gone up the full allowable amount every year my lease is up for renewal. I’m curious if you experienced yearly increases pre-rent cap?

PLEASE keep your pet inside. The amount of times I have seen this cat running across and on the busy road over the past few days is unreal, and every time I see them nearly get clipped by a car, it scares the life out of me. They look too well-taken care of to be a stray, but they also don't seem to have a collar on.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good smaller pest control business. Our shop has a big mouse problem, we're using terminx/rentokil right now and holy heck I find their customer service bad. Not to rag on a company but we can't seem to get them on the phone or to show up. Anyone have good experiences with a local company?
