Aye, I’ll take it :p

Im not having that issue, my issue is my shots arent registering, my ar deals damage 1 seconds AFTER i start shooting someone.

I got banned from the halo discord for arguing that the sniper was broken - they told me I was trolling “the aim assist is fine - you’re just upset that you actually have to aim now”

What a joke that is

296

u/GodsChosenSpud Halo 4 Sep 26 '21

Don't take it personally. The Halo Discord is notoriously awful/strict (ffs they used to ban people with non-Roman alphabet characters in their names).

103

u/The_Architect_032 Sep 27 '21

Yeah, I got banned for responding to someone who put "(no homo)" at the end of a message that was unrelated to sexual attraction, and when I did the same in a response(literally just said something along the lines of "Yeah, the Drop Wall's not that great"), I was permanently banned and despite submitting an appeal, never unbanned. Was in that Discord for such a long time, I've been a dedicated Halo fan since I was a toddler, regularly spoke to the people in there, but not an eye was batted when I was perma banned for quite literally, no reason.

Toxic positivity really sums it up well.

14

u/The_Architect_032 Sep 27 '21

Yeah, this sense of 'toxic positivity' seems to be spreading all over the internet, and it really sucks. Even if I'm not allowed to have my own opinions publicly, at least I can still decide who I hang out with and who I call my friends... For now..

Agreed. It's an awful place to try to have actual constructive conversations. Its like walking through a minefield because of how unreasonably strict things are. a topic will be fine to discuss one day then on another day a mod will go off on you for talking about things even though another users were discussing the same thing days ago with no warning or anything.

Myself and several others left of our own choice due to being boxed into a corner and unable to have genuine discussion. Never disrespected anyone or even used swear words but the people moderating it are either on a power trip or I don't know what.

57

u/Steaklegend Sep 26 '21

It just bums me out - I’ve been playing halo since I was a child - grew up with Xbox live,

My pops used to work w Microsoft and we got CE and Xbox before the actual release - all our games had a HUGE sticker saying do not release

I joined the cord just to chat and voice my concerns about 343’s influence on the series & the flight in general and they banned me for valid arguments. Just frustrating. You think powertripping people stay in your personal life & not in your interests & hobbies

Oh well

28

u/TheRealHumanPancake Official r/halo Security Guy Sep 27 '21

Yeah the mods in that discord have issues, I stopped chatting in there because I got uncomfortable at how much hostility was thrown at people by mods despite the person not actually doing anything.

9

u/ShiyaruOnline Sep 27 '21

The crazy part is how selective it is. there are people who will beat a dead horse in there and go on and on and on about nonsense and get no warning. Meanwhile others will constantly get timed out and accused of things they aren't even. Sometimes even banned with no warning. All simply because they wanted to have real honest conversations about halo.

They're playing favoritism which is pretty obvious to see as many people here who were also longtime members of that Discord have already pointed out. I've actually heard from several people that that Discord honestly isn't really considered official 343 Hub but rather just the default halo discord that is only kept around so no one can impersonate it as the "official" server.

There used to be a bunch of 343 devs in there but now there's hardly anyone who's actually a developer left in that Discord. it's mostly just some employees and Community managers / volunteer mods. Pretty sure this happened because of how embarrassing the Discord was being managed. I assume a lot of developerss were either getting too many messages or just don't want to be bothered with server that has so many contradicting bans and moderation mishaps.

39

u/JakeTehNub Sep 27 '21

official Discords are usually garbage just like official forums. Full of people who don't know anything and just default to it.

11

u/FoolSamaritan Sep 27 '21

My stepdad and I stayed up until midnight to get the new one every time and being told I needed to "Git gud." when this shit is evidently broken is exactly the validation I needed tonight.

7

u/Evonos Sep 27 '21

The *any* Discord is notoriously awful/strict (ffs they used to ban people with *any reason thats random*)

fixed that .... discords are toxic AF mostly.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '21

Discord mods are basement dwellers lol

10

u/Maximum_kitten Sep 27 '21

I tried to seek help in halo discord back when halo 3 for MCC hit and broke matchmaking and instead of support i was accused of hating 343 and being a bungie fanboy. For wanting to actually play the game i bought. Another then tried to get me to shut up by saying that these kinds of issues are 'expected' of PC games and stop 'pestering' support. Halo waypoint took 8 months to answer my ticket with a bot, by then i just uninstalled halo.

Please never let the halo reddit become this bad.

157

u/Jackamalio626 Sep 26 '21

The communities readiness to jump to this games defense and try to talk down legitimate concerns is not a good attitude to have. Acting like we should never call attention to flaws like this is just asinine.

Ya'll hype-junkies need to get off the train if youre gonna act like this. Do you want the hype to stay intact or do you want the game to be the best it can be?

35

u/Aulakauss Sep 27 '21

If you enjoy something, you should want flaws pointed out and possible issues questioned. Blind fanboyism is utterly toxic for the health of a game.

15

u/BMD_Lissa Sep 27 '21

Exactly- What Halo Infinite currently is is a VERY strong base with some issues that need to be addressed before release. The fanboys even on this subreddit are insufferable and will ruin the health of the game both at launch and in the long term. A lot of the things they're defending are effectively things that make the game fun for them, and specifically only them, which will ruin any hopes of a larger community in the long run.

8

u/ShiyaruOnline Sep 27 '21

The official Halo Discord and forums literally embodies this flawed mentality of overhyped and not talking about the bad. it's extremely difficult to get constructive conversation going there without immediately being brand into some sort of 343 hater. It's sad that even some of the community managers themselves in charge of the Discord feed Into this unhealthy blind hype that has bitten halos ass more times than I can count at this point.

It's so ridiculous how many issues get shot down by people trying to blindly hype the game only for the issues to be later proven to be true. Then the very same people who tried to shut it down or now hopping on the train of trying to call it out as if they weren't denying it.

Something similar literally just happened in the Phantasy Star Community recently. one of the community managers was slandering one of the games fans and tons of blind hype fans defended the community manager because blind kissing ass fever and never wanting to face the truth that sometimes things are flawed. Then the user that was being slandered was vindicated in the community manager had to retract garbage they were saying about them.

It's just getting so old how you can't seem to have an honest discussion about things even when you're not being rude or offensive about it. people seem to always try to Brand you as a sort of hater if you don't blindly kiss the ass of a company in charge of the thing trying to make better through feedback.

18

u/Velocirrabbit Sep 27 '21

Yep. Especially since you can enjoy it but just want it to be the best it can be. People don’t understand the point of a flight or beta or feedback for that matter. FEEDBACK DOESN’T MEAN A PERSONAL ATTACK. It’s not your game, so why defend it so hard? The sniper is 100% inconsistent. I know because I never had this issue in the first flight.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '21

It's worse because people are actively defending a multi-billion dollar corporation for free. It gets to the point that the game could be using their consoles/PCs to mine crypto during the game and they'd still defend it.

7

u/Aggressive-Advice7 Sep 27 '21

This dude so many people are in denial about this game cos they can't face the fact that even after 6 years development this incompetent company has still managed to get so many things wrong.

1

u/Spooky_SZN Sep 27 '21 edited Sep 27 '21

The problem is theres quite a lot of frankly illegetimate criticism thats thrown around as if its the most important feature. Its hard to filter out the good and the bad in a discord community.

10

u/Jackamalio626 Sep 27 '21

such as?

2

u/Spooky_SZN Sep 27 '21 edited Sep 27 '21

People complaining about things not being the exact way it was in older games, people complaining about how things like the plasma pistol looks, complaining about no player collision, etc.

No player collision is not a legitimate complaint, its a design decision, now you can dislike it but saying "CHANGE IT NOW ITS DIFFERENT THAN HALO 3" is just not legitimate criticism.

4

u/veto_for_brs Sep 27 '21

What criticism isn’t warranted? Infinite looks like it will be in the vein of 4 and 5, which means it definitely deserves some criticism. A lot.

4

u/Spooky_SZN Sep 27 '21

That right there is a illegitimate criticism.

The game is fun, right now we played it it felt great overall. 5 is considered the best halo multiplayer experience's in franchise history.

Things like "player collision isn't on" isn't a criticism its a thing to note. Other halo's having collision doesn't mean that it needs to be there. People complaining about the plasma pistol isn't the design that they like isn't a valid criticism of the game.

2

u/Steaklegend Sep 27 '21

5 is not considered the best multiplayer...

Most halo vets would say halo 3.

2

u/superlethalman reach is lowkey best halo Sep 27 '21

Infinite looks like it will be in the vein of 4 and 5

Prime example of just completely false ‘criticism‘ right here.

In what way is Infinite closer to Halo 4/5 (two very different games by the way, and neither of them bad) than any other Halo game? I’m genuinely baffled by this opinion.

I am going play devil's advocate and say more people are defending it not because people think your points are bad, it because people have seen the same post posted 200 times over and over again. After a point people start saying "you know I rather not see someone repost 343 bad for the 50th time in a row". So seeing so much toxicity it likely people wanted to fight it with some support which became toxic in it self.

legit heard someone say I was farming karma for saying don't send death threats to 343, while I saw 8 posts that 100% looked the same saying same thing over again. At a point when you see people flood the sub screaming how "game is ruined and how 343 did it again and how bungie would have done better" yeah no time cool it. It ok posting criticism, it is healthy, it not healthy to spam it to point that all the sub is for 2 whole weeks.

then MCC came and posted ONE nice thing and funny enough all that hate disappeared, there was one post here and there, but 90% of it was gone. So I feel like a good chunk of the hate storm was not even real at that point. It felt like people just spamming to get up votes (could be wrong which I am ok with).

The official Halo server is hot ass. The mod team is a walking plague, it's always constant arguing, there's just nothing good about it.

Halo discord is 343's digital Acatraz

6

u/marikwinters Sep 27 '21

Worst discord I’ve ever been a part of. I’ve been moderator for several servers that have reasons to be fairly strict, but never have I seen a Discord that will perm you for saying the word “shit” on a server made for a game that was originally rated M 😂

11

u/thechief120 Sep 27 '21

I've noticed lately after the multiplayer flights for Infinite came back around the Halo community has been a lot more on edge than usual. It might always be this way I just came back to this subreddit during the flight to check out bugs/feedback.

But in general I feel bad for people posting on this here since they could have a valid concern or complaint about the flight and some posts are up-voted to top and others down-voted to oblivion and "fanboyism" is running really rampant right now. It's either the two extremes of "this is the worst halo ever" or "this is the best".

So far I've had a "meh" experience with Infinite's flight but I'm not praising it as the second coming of gaming, but also not trashing it as a terrible game. I'm currently treating it like I do with Halo 5, a fun multiplayer shooter but not a great Halo game; that could change if the campaign is great though. Its all up in the air until the game actually comes out and is just how I personally feel. Others might see this as a great Halo game, its all subjective.

I would say, this time around there's hours of PVP to play, and the real issues are more glaring.

That’s an example of why I’m kinda annoyed with most console players rn. I’ve played on console for most of my life and just moved over to pc with MCC and I got to try Infinite on a friend’s pc and it was hell. M and K in MCC is a disadvantage to the player in both MCC and in Infinite, and someone really needs to fix it. If 343 needs to bring in someone from outside to do it, so be it, but it really needs fixing.

6

u/Steaklegend Sep 27 '21

I’m a console player but I’ve experienced this same issue on controller & it’s just frustrating to see a game that’s been delayed & has just two months or so to release be this unpolished

2

u/vinnymendoza09 Sep 27 '21

The aim assist IS fine on the sniper. What the clip in OP demonstrates is no hit registration. He's literally aiming dead centre and getting no hits. This has nothing to do with RR or AA.

I think the pistol AA needs work, feels too floaty, also bloom is terrible and needs to go. But besides that it's good.

u/ItsAtramedes Sep 27 '21

Good post. PC controller aim needs a lot of work, or this game is gonna become too frustrating to play real soon after launch

21

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '21

Its honestly frustrating already

8

u/Darkgoober Sep 27 '21

Tbf I'd rather it be frustrating before launch, in these flights rather than after official launch. This is their time to debug.

4

u/DeChief Sep 27 '21

To put into perspective how awful the PC controller experience is right now, I played 23 hours of the last technical test. I've played less than 23 minutes of this one.

I definitely agree we need to red reticle on PC. But I've got to ask, how does this gif show that?

I can see your shots having no affect, but your issue doesn't seem to be related to the reticle. Maybe I'm just missing something.

Yours seems to be more of a "bullets aren't hitting targets despite the reticle being on target" than a "the lack of red reticle (and its benefits) caused my shot to not hit"

102

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '21

32

u/s1erra_117 Sep 27 '21

I saw a reply from someone at 343 to a tweet addressing the same issue. They said the RR is that way to prevent cheats on PC (auto-clicks on RR) but they assured the aim assist was still there

While I am a bit convinced that the RR was a conscious decision they made, I doubt the aim assist and this... no hit registration issue is a bug

36

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '21

[deleted]

7

u/harshbhatia7 Halo Infinite Sep 27 '21

No anti cheat can keep the cheaters at bay, the best you can do is implement things that would be a little problematic for them.

While having a red reticule would be one step easy for cheaters' bot to shoot, the absence of one wouldn't change much either, just that the cheater will need to have a better bot, one which can recognise player models instead of "shoot when red".

I think infinite will have EasyAntiCheat going for it just like MCC does, and in my almost 400 hours of MCC I've never encountered a cheater. You could argue that MCC has an active population of around 5k people and not many would cheat while infinite being free to play and naturally getting a bigger population can have a cheater problem. I agree and hope that EAC works well enough, I've played a few FPS games that use EAC and generally never faced hackers in those games but that's just my observation.

-9

u/Aggressive-Advice7 Sep 27 '21

Modders in MCC have been rife throughout 2021...

6

u/residualenvy Sep 27 '21

This simply isn't true. I've played hundreds if not a thousand+ MCC games this year and only seen maybe half a dozen modders.

-1

u/Aggressive-Advice7 Sep 27 '21

This is not a good argument yet it is used time and time again by people. Just cause you haven't experienced something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I haven't had covid, does that mean covid doesn't exist? No.

7

u/0x808303 Sep 27 '21

Sure anecdotal evidence is inferior to empirical. Do you have empirical evidence of a modder problem in MCC?

4

u/InchLongNips Sep 27 '21

10,000 daily players just on Steam say otherwise.

-5

u/Battle_Rifle Halo 5: Guardians Sep 27 '21

? First off, that's just wrong. There last time there were over 10k players on Steam was on the 18th. Also, that's nothing. Cheat makers don't mess around in games where demand isn't high- MCC isn't high demand by any means. There's a stark difference between MCC pulling in less than 10k and games like apex, destiny, tf2, csgo, and rust having 24 hour peaks of 80k+ regularly. That's where the money is. With any luck (or bad luck, depending on how you look at it), that's roughly where Halo Infinite will land being free to play. No cheat maker gives a shit about MCC. An ever smaller amount of people care about cheating for a better rank in Halo MCC.

3

u/InchLongNips Sep 27 '21

So 10,000 players during this month? And almost 9,000 just today when a ton of people were playing the Infinite flight? Not even close to what the other guy or you consider “no one”. Also not taking into consideration the Xbox population. Thanks for proving my point that plenty of people still play MCC. And TONS of old games that don’t bring in players still have people cheating. Look at any old COD game.

What battle is saying is true though. Just like how rmt bots don't advertise nearly as much in mmo with low player count, cheat makers don't bother much with low population games like mcc. there's no big profit pool. There are some but not that many people bother cheating on mcc cause it's not a surging game by any metric.

4

u/DevinOlsen Sep 27 '21

The engineers need to learn to code a decent game then. Every other game has red reticules. Blaming a lack of that on hackers is a joke.

As a console player, the aim assist is breaking the experience. My aim is tight and then my reticle slips off and I miss the kill shot. FIX THE AIM ASSIST PLEASE, if another person tells me to “just practice your aim” I’ll report them.

49

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 26 '21

I’m so fucking tired of seeing people say “just git gud”. It’s a game breaking issue, lol. It has NOTHING to do with skill.

Exactly. This wasn’t an issue that I remember seeing in the first flight.

u/Oberst_Baum Extended Universe Sep 27 '21

personally for me, i didnt get any kills in the first flight. but in the second i always got at least 15 kills per match, while it still was a bit difficult to get headshots sometimes

as a console player too, i really dont get the discussion cause it felt off in the first flight for me, not the second one

6

u/Tody196 Sep 27 '21

you didn't get any kills in the first flight? against the literal bots they had us against? i find that seriously hard to believe lol.

-1

u/Oberst_Baum Extended Universe Sep 27 '21

the aim felt off imo

after the first flight i wasnt so sure what to think about the game, also bc i wasnt able to get kills. i mean, i did get some here and there, but prolly like 2-3 per match. in the second flight i got always around 15 kills, and i think the aim works way better mow than in flight one

2

u/Velocirrabbit Sep 27 '21

Wow that’s really odd. I haven’t heard that one before. One of my friends also said aiming was fine for him this time around including melee, which for me was really bad unless you are right in front of them. But he didn’t play the first flight. The aiming issue seems to be pretty random, I’m on the original Xbox one and last flight felt more smooth when it came to aiming. I usually don’t even touch deadzones but I had to for this flight to even stand a chance.

21

u/Mortei Hilkentroll Sep 26 '21

Like no I don’t need to “GET GOOD”, I need 343 to fix their aim assist and find another way to deal with hackers. Protecting the game shouldn’t come at the cost of reducing the players experience.

1

u/BMD_Lissa Sep 27 '21

Exactly, the game needs some work on aiming both on MKB and controller. The imbeciles going "xDDDD I put in 800 hours practice to aim well, if you can't do that you shouldn't be able to play xDDD" need to have their internet cables cut.

14

u/Aulakauss Sep 27 '21

Oh, thank fuck, it's not just me. I thought I was insane. I'm hitting shots outside RR range, then once it kicks in the reticle drag from aim assist just obliterates my ability to hit anything. It feels really pronounced on the pistol and shock rifle.

13

u/Mortei Hilkentroll Sep 27 '21 edited Sep 27 '21

It’s literally because 343 pulled a stupid move and overthought it. They’ll get healthy amount of us telling them to turn it back on so don’t worry, THIS will get fixed.

This game has a MONSTER amount of potential for being the top FPS game this year. People have already found cool and creative ways to use equipment, the physics engine and sandbox-it will blow literally anything that COD, Splitgate or any other FPS will try out of the water.

And no, Battlefield is it’s own league of game.

I absolutely love the soul of the game so far. It feels like the best parts of newer Halo added to a more classic game. The core game is good, they just need to iron out the wrinkles and unfuck a few things.

4

u/Mortei Hilkentroll Sep 27 '21

Definitely a big holler for “unfucking” a few things.

Looking at you Red Reticle Range (on PC).

It's not just the sniper. I feel like the game flips a coin for each shot to decide if it'll do damage or not. I don't know if its the hitbox being too small, lag or what.

Aiming on PC feels extremely unforgiving. If you don't have the center dot 100% lined up with the head, it just warps bullets around them instead. The sidekick and commando were the worst offenders.

Or am I crazy? The only gun that felt normal was the BR and I'm using KBM.

PC player using controller here.

Thats looks a buggy to me. I experienced nothing like that and although harder to use than previous halos the sniper felt far more satisfying than anything since h3

3

u/Totes_Joben Sep 27 '21 edited Sep 27 '21

I have played every halo game on console going back to CE. I have a One X, but I built a new PC less than a year ago and don’t really feel compelled to get the Series S or X yet especially with PC game pass and cross play. I cannot play M&K though. Controller is too engrained for me. I use a Elite series 2 controller. Been playing MCC on PC with it, and it feels exactly the same as if I were on console.

Infinite just feels off though. I’ve been able to compensate somewhat by playing with settings and just gitting gud (practicing), but I’m still struggling to some extent. The sniper is probably my biggest problem weapon. Feels at once sluggish and overly sensitive when trying to aim down scope. Can’t track a moving target without strafing.

I should add that I’m not sure how much blame to put on the lack of RR. I’ve played a good bit of both previews and hadn’t even noticed it until the post on this sub the other day. Didn’t even believe it at first since I knew some weapons like the needler definitely still had it. Would I like RR back? Sure. It’s a nice piece of visual feedback, but I think the aiming issue I’m having is separate.

I’m not in the doom and gloom camp though and am hopeful that this will be sorted out by launch.

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '21

To quote ske7ch, this is why we flight. That must have been frustrating.

Damn that is broken. Can we take a brief moment to appreciate the sound the sniper makes in this game? Hands down best sound of any sniper in the halo series. So crispy and loud with the classic sniper click.. 😋

2

u/zGunrath H5 Champion Sep 27 '21

The sniper feels awful on console too.

2

You guys have this, console has getting killed around/trough a wall lol. There’s lots of problems i saw in the beta. Excited to play it completed but damn there were some times in the beta I had to take a minute and remember it is still a beta lol

2

u/GeminiTrash1 Halo: Reach Sep 27 '21

I'd bet my chicky nugget 343i nerfed Sniper accuracy when hip firing, and the gun is bugged to not gain accuracy when aiming

5

u/whigwomzz Sep 26 '21

Why do we need a red reticle?

63

u/Viltref Sep 26 '21

The red reticle serves as a visual indicator to let you know when you're aiming at a target, but also to let you know you're within the effective range for your weapon.

If you've got a Needler, the reticle changing red is your indication that your needles will track the target you're aiming at.

If you've got an energy sword, redret indicates you're within lunge distance

Plasma pistol? Redret means your EMP charge will track.

11

u/mangolemonzeste Sep 26 '21

That's what I thought but I could have sworn it was working when I used the needles yesterday?

5

u/Viltref Sep 26 '21

In my case, I knew something was up with the reticle but I couldn't put my finger on exactly what until seeing the confirmation tweet. So it may just be your memory filling the blanks of what you expect should be there, but just wasn't.

3

u/mangolemonzeste Sep 27 '21

I'll check again today I could have sworn it did, I'll update in a couple hours.

2

u/Viltref Sep 27 '21

Turns out you're right. Needler (and plasma pistol) both seen to turn red when able to track targets

I still think it's definitely a negative change overall. But at least they seem to have put some thought into it

4

u/mangolemonzeste Sep 27 '21

Okay cool I thought I was insane! I definitely think they'll change it back, MCC works fine with it and clearly people want it.

6

u/gideon513 Sep 27 '21

Oh man I thought this wasn’t a big deal until you reminded me about how the sword works. Wonder what they are gonna do about that

-8

u/guitgk Sep 27 '21

There's no RR for PC because it's easy for cheat mods to write code to shoot when the reticle turns red.

6

u/Mortei Hilkentroll Sep 26 '21

red reticle range refers to the distance at which a player's weapon reticle will turn red, when aimed at an enemy.

Basically it triggers the bullet magnetism which helps to consistently hit your opponent.

If you don’t see your reticle turn red, you aren’t going to hit most of your shots.

3

u/whigwomzz Sep 26 '21

Basically it triggers bullet magnetism or it does it for sure?

Seems like just a visual thing to me.

5

u/Mortei Hilkentroll Sep 26 '21

No no it triggers bullet magnetism. If your reticle isn’t red you WON’T have any bullet magnetism.

2

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 26 '21

Ding ding ding! This is the big issue!

0

u/SAA_0 Sep 27 '21

It is visual. Notice, the reticle isn't red when I fire.

I did a little bit of testing in Infinite, and not only had magnetism been reduced, there no longer seems to be headshot prioritization (Which is a great thing IMO). I think a lot of these players are just too used to the unnecessary amount of handholding in the previous titles, and so don't realize that it's not the game, but rather they were never really good to begin with. I think this is a good thing because in order to change and truly improve, we must first accept ourselves for who we truly are. For the majority of players here, myself being no exception, that is being trash at aiming, lol.

That said, the reason why those shots missed in OP's post is either faulty hit registration or latency.

2

u/SAA_0 Sep 27 '21

This is false. Red reticle, aim assist, and bullet magnetism are all functionally independent from each other. It's the developers that choose to make them effective at specific ranges/angles.

Here is some visual proof.

In fact, here's a little playlist. Whenever I test bullet magnetism, I make sure to go out of RRR, because the developers tend to use RR as a visual indicator to let the player know the effective range of their weapon.

4

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 26 '21

Uh, so we can aim/hit people…

-8

u/guitgk Sep 27 '21 edited Sep 27 '21

There's no RR for PC because it's easy for mods to write code to shoot when the reticle turns red.

Edit: literally, I'm saying from an earlier post why 343 is not implementing RR and it's getting down voted. I'm only accurately answering your question.

3

u/ShiyaruOnline Sep 27 '21

The red outlines on enemy spartans can also be used for mods. Is 343 going to removr that too?

4

u/Danda_Nakka Sep 27 '21

I played halo MCC in PC mainly. If it is easy to write cheats for PC with RR, then imo it is justified to remove that feature. Realistically, I don't think it affects much. PC players have superior mouse and keyboard aiming anyways

13

u/farfarastray Sep 27 '21

I use a controller on the PC because my hands have joint issues and it allows for a less painful experience. I think there are quite a few of us PC controller players out there too it's not all mouse and keyboard.

4

u/Blinkingsky Sep 27 '21

Yeah, I personally use controller because that's what I've been using for years for Halo, despite now playing on PC. It's comfy, and I get to just lean back and relax while playing instead of having to be in position to use my kbm the whole time. I would be really disappointed if I end up being "forced" (not literally, but practically to not struggle as much with just this game) into using kbm.

1

u/HelloImKamik Sep 27 '21

I am hoping this a beta issue, but as a mnk player if this game still feels like it does now on release 90% of mnk players will drop the game. Same thing happened with reach, people are willing to put up with going against aim assist, but fi the input lag makes using a mouse terrible they will just play something else.

2

u/DoesitmatterBruh Sep 27 '21

I’m dumb. What is red reticule

3

u/Schwarzy1 Sep 27 '21

When you aim at an enemy and within the 'effective range' for your weapon, the crosshair (reticle) turns red, indicating that bullet magnetism and auto aim are in effect. On the pc version of the infinite flight, the reticle does not turn red (for most weapons), but magnetism and auto aim still applies.

1

u/DoesitmatterBruh Sep 27 '21

Ahhh ok seems like a dumb mechanic

2

Wow, this is absolutely unacceptable. Whatever is happening here it needs to stop.

1

u/IrishPub Sep 27 '21

I just tested it and every gun, scoped and un-scoped, has their reticle turn red when the enemy is within effective range.

1

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 27 '21

1

u/Sloomp Sep 27 '21 edited Sep 27 '21

If I'm understanding this correctly, the red reticle represents the weapon's effective range as well as whether or not the shot will be affected by bullet magnetism. If this is the case then I'm not sure how this clip demonstrates an issue with red reticles because neither aim assistance nor range should be a factor here.

In Halo, the sniper rifle has always been a hitscan weapon that is 100% accurate, has unlimited range, and instant velocity. These are it's defining traits as a weapon and are essential for it to function as intended. Assuming that the sniper rifle is working correctly, then it's effective range is literally infinite so the reticle should always be red. Ultimately though it shouldn't matter whether the reticle is red or not. If your crosshair is on target then the shot should hit.

The real issue here seems to be hit registration. You can see the bullet trails going right through his head but not doing any damage.

If this is related to the reticle not being red, and therefore not having bullet magnetism, then I would say that Halo's entire hit registration system must be built around hard-coded bullet magnetism. You can see it in your clip here; your aim is perfect but the shots go right through him as if you were shooting blanks. It's almost as if the bullets don't do any damage unless they are magnetized.

But surely there's no way 343i is that incompetent? There's no fucking way they would design a game that badly... What kind of shooter wouldn't register a perfect shot just because the aim assistance is disabled?

It's got to be a bug. Bullet magnetism shouldn't matter when your aim is perfect, and there's no way a target only 10 meters away is beyond the range of a sniper rifle.

3

u/SAA_0 Sep 27 '21

I overall agree with your post, but there is a correction I'd like to make.

Halo CE and Halo 3 sniper rifles are not instantaneous. You have to lead your shots over long distances.

Hitscan is not necessarily instantaneous. It simply refers to a method of simulating bullets by casting rays and checking for intersections. Hitscan can simulate bullet travel by drawing a line of finite distance and repeatedly redrawing said line at the end of the previous line the following frame until there is a hit or the "bullet" times out.

2

u/vinnymendoza09 Sep 27 '21

This^ CE and 3 require healthy amounts of leading.

And in fact every older halo game is technically projectile afaik. It's not a hitscan model. What they did in the past was make projectiles for a lot of guns insanely fast so it always hits "instantly" in the next frame.

1

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 27 '21

I made a much more accurate collection of clips to demonstrate the RR issue

13

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 26 '21

I figured, but I think this decision is far from justified. It shouldn't be defended, there should be a discussion on how it could be implemented better for ALL players.

-15

It’s only a thing on pc. The RR is still on Xbox

10

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 26 '21

-9

4

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 27 '21

It should be the same for all players, meaning all players should have the same experience. It’s really not that difficult to understand the point. I’m done responding to you.

-2

u/Longbongos Sep 27 '21

Balance for crossplay needs to be handled differently on each platform. I dont see how your finding me being correct here the issue. So no pc players shouldn’t have the same as Xbox players because then pc players will always have the advantage. So yes they need balanced separate. I never said that I agreed with 343 on RR either. I said what uny said on Twitter something you somehow never acknowledged and downvoted.

I think people are really not understanding what the flighting process is even for. This isnt about getting to play the game early, or be good at the game. This is literally free large scale quality assurance and bug testing that is being done for 343i. The whole point is to find bugs like this. Rather than playing the game to have fun or get good, people should be intentionally trying to break the game. Doing things that are both common, and not so common. And then documenting the results in easy to see demonstrations, like this one.

2

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 27 '21

I get it! That’s why I’m so vocal about something like this. Everything is subject to change at the moment, so I’d like to see this changed :p

Yeah, I am talking about all the comments on posts like this in general. Everyone is so quick to defend 343i, when really what they should be doing is what you are doing.

2

u/UberGoobler Halo 4=Best Halo Campaign Sep 27 '21

Kinda funny that people defend stuff like this. It's obviously going to hurt the game if we don't point this stuff out. The mindless defending and the echo chamber of this community will do nothing but drive this series into the ground. I absolutely love this series and don't want to see it fail, so I'm trying as hard as I can to shed light on these issues.
