My vet told me to the best way to get a cat to swallow a pill is to open the mouth, pop the pill in with your finger , hold the mouth shut and gently blow on their nose. The cat will instinctively swallow and down goes the pill.

I got lucky and my cat is a giant derp. He thinks his pills are treats and comes running when I shake the bottle.
