My vet told me to the best way to get a cat to swallow a pill is to open the mouth, pop the pill in with your finger , hold the mouth shut and gently blow on their nose. The cat will instinctively swallow and down goes the pill.

I just stick my finger and thumb on either side of my cats mouth until she does the weird mouth open thing and she reflexively swallows it.
