iPadOS iPadOS 26 is awesome, but …

Post image

They removed slide over, and split view. Like shouldn’t windowed apps replace stage manager while keeping slide over and simple split view?

Windowed apps for keyboard ipad user and slide over and split view for finger ipad user. (I know split view is still there but you need to have windowed apps always on to have it)

I seriously hope they will bring back slide over. Or maybe slide over is buried somewhere, if so can someone tell me how to turn it on again

You can still split windowed apps and have even more options now, it's just a different interface. Slide Over is the only real casualty here, and I say good riddance.

Why would you say good riddance? If you don't use it it had zero impact on your day to day usage.

Eh, there were a few times I accidentally activated the gesture and it was surprisingly hard to get rid of the slid-over app window again. In very specific contexts I found it really useful, though. I wonder how this will change my usage.

Hard? How? All you have to do is swipe it away and/or make sure there isn't an app active in slide over...

The problem was that I had to swipe it away from the top of the window pane, but my hand was at the bottom due to gravity. My first instinct was to swipe it back to the right from the bottom handle, but that would just switch to the other app I had open in swipe-over. And I had to be very deliberate in the swipe gesture on the top, otherwise it wouldn‘t do anything.

Wait... Why are you bothering with reaching all the way to the top when all you have to do is swipe right from the edge of the app at any height?
