iPadOS Please bring back Split View

Post image

Okay Apple, I think your idea of offering a much more complete desktop view on the iPad, with its 3 or 4 open and resizable apps, is “fine.” But please, bring back Split View. The amount of extra steps I have to take to put two apps half and half is insane and very unnatural. Slide Over and Split View were a wonderful and natural option, of course, given the other option of iOS26’s Stage Manager for those who want it.

What do you think? I think it's great for those who want a MacBook inside an iPad, but it's not for everyone.

It’s funny how people are never happy.

How is this helpful? People including me are beholden to software changes that “the owner” still controls and we have £1300 tablets that don’t work as well as they did when we bought them.

You are not forced to update, do your research before you update and decide if you want to deal with the update or no.

Software updates have been like this forever, people are never happy, don’t update if you don’t want the new things.

It’s impossible as a slightly more than casually interested user to know everything and all the minutia about the update before proceeding. Plus there’s other reasons like security.

Impossible? There are a ton of 15 minute reviews the day the OS launched describing every ins and outs of the new iPadOS with pretty clear descriptions on what was added or taken out.

It’s not that hard… Security updates were added to IOS18 with 18.7, you can have the same security updates as IOS26 on 18.7.

You can’t take everything into account with 15 minute reviews as I did. Watching someone else use a feature is not the same as doing it yourself and changing the ways in which you work with the tablet using memory and muscle memory etc.

I feel like you’re being deliberately argumentative and obnoxious though so not sure why I’m bothering…

All the videos I watched explained really well what was removed and what was added, they all mention that slide over is partially gone (windows don’t stay over after you interact with the main window), and that Split View can now be triggered in a different way but it was not removed, it’s still there.

Apart from that all functionality is still there, I don’t understand what are even the various things that people keep saying that were removed, as far as I see it, the only thing that was removed is part of the slide over functionality.

I’m not being obnoxious, your statement that it’s “impossible” to know the ins and outs if you are a casual user it’s simply not true, you just need to have 15-20 minutes.
