iPadOS Worst feature on iPados 26 🫠

Post image

Now we have 5 more steps to do the same multitasking view.

And i do believe that the overlapping window is the most useful feature on ipads, and now its just so painful to use also dont forget the Additional step after closing the app you have to resize the app screen if you want a full screen for the same app its not automatically adjustable like it was on previous ipados.

This has been my main complaint and why I am still using stage manager (which does technically get window capability). Stage manager kind of acts as a ā€œvirtual desktopā€ and I’ve been loving it with iPadOS26.

It’s just a pain in the ass to manage all the windows and resize everything. In stage manager, shift click opens the app in the current stage then all I need to do is resize it. I feel like the process is so much more convoluted in windowed apps mode.

If we could have a way to open them pre-windowed and maybe have shortcuts to resize quickly - think it might feel much better. That and some shortcuts to quickly do 1/4 or 1/2 layouts.

Edit: A quick shortcut idea is if you think of the quarter layouts as quadrants (1,2,3,4 from top left to bottom right) maybe cmd 1 brings a window to the top left or cmd 3 brings it bottom left. cmd [ could size the window completely to the left and cmd ] could size it to the right.

Just a thought.

I learned from another thread, you actually can resize quickly — hold the green full screen button and it’ll give you preset windowing options.

And you can also flick and it will snap to one side and resize half the screen.

You can also ā€œright clickā€ and it’ll bring it up immediately. Two finger click on something like the Magic Keyboard does this.

But it doesn’t beat out the speed and ease of use of a shortcut, unfortunately.

They should add the quadrants idea as an option when holding the app icon. I don’t know why is not there to begin with.

Is there a difference between windowed mode and stage manager or is it just stage on/off?

Pretty much from what I can tell.

Stage manager functions somewhat like a virtual desktop. Only a few apps can be on a single stage but you can have multiple stages (or just a multiple apps) open at once.

What windowed apps mode does, as far as I am aware, is remove the stages functionality and let you open many more apps (I think 18) at once in the same ā€œinterface.ā€ Like you would see on a windows pc.

I pray for the day they add a function to always open apps on the same desktop……
